Cranking up the difficulty: self-imposed challenges

Hello there! So, I was just replaying Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, and decided it had become too easy with my uber powerful ranger. So I started anew and avoided anything that even remotely upgraded my ranger, sticking just to the story. I hadn't experienced the nemesis system as deeply before, for now if I saw my rival in the distance, I got the hell out of there, while having him hunt me. It was really cool.

So this got me thinking, am I the only massochist (of course not!)? Which are some of the self-imposed challenges you do to keep games you've played interesting?

For Xcom 2 we have mods that increase the number of enemies and also mods that add new tougher enemies.

1) Don't wear armor

2) Aggro more enemies than you can handle

Try that and let me know what happens.

In Shadow of Mordor you don't get armor, so I suppose I was already doing that. But about that second part... holy ****. I just had four uruk captains and about 30 enemies on screen. I only "won" because my computer overheated... XD Really need a new one.

And about the mods, I usually go crazy with them in Skyrim. To the point that if a rat sneezes at me and I'm not blocking, I die, the game doesn't reload to the previous checkpoint, and suddenly I'm naked with no money in the wilderness.

So yeah, mods are awesome.

I love doing this kinda playthrough too! Craziest I've ever had is Dragon Age: Inquisition, go into the wild without a full 4 person party on any difficulty above hard... Good. Freaking. Luck. It is SO hard every single time.

God Skyrim and Mods is so amazing and can also be such a disaster. I usually spend 2 hours getting the game to actually boot after installing new mods, then play until crash for fear of it not opening again. Best mod ever is still Fallout 4's Randy Savage Macho Man Deathclaw.

Cranking up the difficulty: self-imposed challenges

For games like Skyrim, Witcher 3, and the Fallout games, I never allow myself to fast travel and go on foot everywhere I need to go. I also try to find someplace to "camp" for the night by darting into some cave or empty building nearby which is almost always occupied by something or someone with a foul temper.

There are some great mods for Skyrim like iNeed (which simulates hunger, thirst, sleep and such) and Frostfall (which simulates exposure and hypothermia) which really up the challenge factor.

Sheesh, I think the biggest challenge I've inflicted onto myself was starting my own faction in Mount & Blade Warband with just under 100 men at my disposal and I got absolutely obliterated by one of the Khergit Khanate's legions. That was the last time I tried rushing the process and now currently have about 209-ish under my flag, but I'm still serving the Khergits as their Marshall so I still got a long way to go lmao
