Cause For Celebration
Everyone knew it was coming. With all the content up to this point, along with the multiple seasonal and in-game events, Overwatch had to have an anniversary celebration –and what a year it was.
Over 30 million active players, over $1 billion in revenue, high critical-acclaim and reviews, multiple content updates and a massive community –Overwatch found success in everything it did.
And it’s only been one year. Running from May 23rd till June 12th, the Anniversary event has kicked off with a bang.

There’s a Party in Overwatch, and You’re Invited
With the anniversary event comes what everyone expects at this point –new content. With it being that one year mark, Blizzard is throwing all kinds of new goodies at its players in nearly every way.
3 new maps have been revealed when the event begins. With new playable areas in familiar locations, the teasers for these maps shown on official Twitter accounts are recognizable as Eichenwalde, Temple of Anubis and Dorado –all of which are currently in the game. While these are referred to as “ARENA MAPS”, these could be new 1v1 and 3v3 environments but a recent datamine also suggests a new mode may be coming as well.

Along with new maps comes new character skins. While most of Overwatch’s events bring with it a bevy of multiple-tiered skins, four have already been revealed. For both Bastion, Pharah, Soldier and Zayra, these new skins showcase a possible futuristic-take on each one of the characters not seen before in the game. It has also been suggested that Symmetra may be getting a brand new legendary skin as well.

On top of the already mentioned content, numerous new voice lines, emotes, highlight intros, sprays and player portraits are also to be included in the anniversary event. Blizzard is also taking its already established “Origins Edition” and converting it into the new “Anniversary Edition” of the game which includes all the extra content found in the original version.
Blizzard is also continuing one of its most successful marketing tactics to help bring in more players to the game. From May 26-29, Overwatch will be open to all in a free weekend offer allowing players on both PC and console to experience the game in its entirety. With its limited engagement ending on June 12th, players will be clamoring to get their hands on all the content the even has to offer.
