Based in Rockville, Maryland, Bethesda Softworks started out as a division of Media Technology Limited, owned by Cristopher Weaver.

At present, Bethesda Softworks acts as a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media, and parent company to video game developer Bethesda Game Studios.

After 2002, Bethesda Softworks emerged as a publishing company for games from studios owned or aligned with ZeniMax Media.

Over the years, Bethesda has gained worldwide recognition for its most flagship titles such as The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom and Dishonored.
