While at the S.H.I.E.L.D. airborne helicarrier, the Avengers are all at odds with knowing what to do about Loki and how to approach S.H.I.E.L.D about their plans to use the Tesseract's power for weapons to defend Earth.
While the group is at each other's throats, Loki's team of mind-controlled soldiers, including Barton, come to attack the helicarrier by blowing up one of the engines. In the battle, Banner turns into Hulk and causes more panic to the confusion. Romanoff fights against Barton, and she knocks him unconscious so they can take him and snap him out of his mind-control. Stark and Rogers work together to get the damaged engine started again so the helicarrier can stabilize again. Thor tries to stop the Hulk, but in the process, Hulk tries to take on a fighter jet and gets knocked off and falls to the Earth.
Thor fights Hulk to stop him from rampaging on the Helicarrier.
Loki escapes, tricking Thor to get trapped in the detainment cell and Loki releases the cell, sending Thor plummeting to Earth. Agent Coulson tries to keep Loki from escaping, but Loki kills Coulson so he can get away. However, before he goes, Coulson lands a blow to Loki with a super powered weapon. Fury makes it to Coulson right before he dies, and becomes determined to get the Avengers to finally work together as a team to defeat Loki. Under Loki's control Dr. Selvig helped to build a machine using the iridium to open a portal to allow the Chitauri army to invade the Earth located in Manhattan, New York. The Avengers finally get their act together and work as a team to fight against the Chitauri, but the alien army are becoming more and more overwhelming.
The Avengers prepare to fight more Chitauri.
The Avengers also try and keep the civilians safe in New York. The Hulk beats the living crap out of Loki and Romanoff learns from Dr. Selvig, who is no longer under Loki's control, that the way to destroy the portal is to use Loki's scepter on the machine powering the portal. Meanwhile Fury tries his best to convince his superiors to not send a nuke to destroy Manhattan to contain the Chitauri threat, but they send the missile anyway.
Stark takes it upon himself to redirect the missile, sending it through the portal before he orders to destroy the device powering the portal. Since Tony's suit powers off and he passes out since he goes through the portal to outer space. He falls to Earth, and Hulk manages to catch him before impact. Tony appears dead, but he's startled "back to life" by a Hulk roar and he's just fine. Loki is captured and Thor takes him and the Tesseract back to Asgard. Afterwards Fury is sure that if the Avengers are needed again, they will return.
"The Avengers" is the most successful Marvel movie to date, sitting pretty at $1.52 billion in worldwide box office sales.
From what we can expect from Marvel in the future, hopefully, will be more blockbusters. In 2017, we're expected to see "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," "Spider-man: Homecoming" and "Thor: Ragnarok." If Marvel's momentum keeps going, they will likely see excellent results from their box office sales. But what other movies will they put out? Maybe this article. Nonetheless, Marvel puts out some awesome movies, don't you think?
