Miles Upshur is a freelance investigative journalist who one day receives a strange message from an anonymous source. The message tells of inhumane experiments performed on inmates in Mount Massive Asylum, a secluded psychiatric hospital in Lake County, Colorado run by the corrupt Murkoff Corporation.Based on the tip off, Miles decides to travel to Mount Massive Asylum to investigate.

As Miles arrives at the asylum and begins his investigation, he is horrified to find mutilated corpses of the staff, including a dying SWAT officer who warns him to get out while he still can. As Miles walks through the asylum, he finds the asylum's patients, freely roaming the grounds and hostile towards him, in particular a hulking sadist named Chris Walker. Without any traditional weapons, players will control Miles and navigate the asylum's ransacked environment with parkour: jumping over low obstacles, crawling, and sliding through narrow gaps. With dark creatures lurking in every corner, will Miles be able to escape the asylum and survive?

In honor of the spooky season I decided to play this game as i've religiously avoided it due to not being the biggest fan of horror games usually. I will say Im pleasantly surprised, the gameplay is simple but has it's challenges. Overall for someone who usually gets scared pretty easily, this game wasn't too intense but added just the right amount of jump scares to be entertaining. What really adds the charm to Outlast is the story for me. Its well done with enough depth to immerse yourself into the world of this cursed Asylum.

I played this game up until I got stuck in the basement getting chased by one of the crazies saw me walk by. After I got over the mini heart attack, I uninstalled the game. Scary as hell. Will probably put myself through the trauma again.

Let's put it simple. Good things about this game: atmosphere, the fact that you have a camera, that you need to collect batteries, darkness, the inevitable and unescapable fear, enemies, story, locations. Bad things: well... there are a bit to many human organs scattered around for ahem... no apparent reason. I mean, fear is good in games of this genre, but do we really need so many lungs and guts everywhere? I think not. But that is my opinion. Overall, a masterpiece.

Everyone must know the feeling when a friend of yours scares the living soul out of you and the mini heart attack you get. Well now imagine that mini heart attack and call it Mega heart attack since it lasts through the whole game. Classic game, perfect atmosphere. There are many "wana be" horror games these days, but believe me you, this is a survival at its finest.

You might want to play this game on the toilet to avoid some accidents. This game masters fear by making you hide under beds, crawl through darkness, and solve puzzles with only seconds to spare to escape with your life. This is more than just a jump scare.

If you want horror, you must play Outlast. Just like entering a Resident Evil assylum, Outlast gives you that feeling of scaping from zombies with mental problems. Even if you didn't play it and you are just watching how someone else plays, you're gonna to be scare too. Simple researching, great survival mode and perfect sound (and music) to give you the suspense you need to play this game.

Probably the best horror and survivor game ever made. The scene of asylum set in the real forests of Mount Massive is the best. It's not all about the scene but the dark surroundings and then boom!!!, sudden appearance of the patients and victims. The music and the sound during game-play is the major reason of scariness and the heart pounding. The objective is the best: Can you survive and uncover the secrets of asylum before the battery runs out or you die.......... Play it to know it.........................

Jump scares abound in what can only be described as a frightening horror experience. Easily one of the best horror games to grace this generation. There's no running away here and no fighting back, it's quite simply just survival.

Horror. Darkness. Gameplay. Incredibly, those three components can summarize the experience of playing Outlast. Even if you are one of the brave, Outlast makes your heart beat way faster than any other horror game upon this generation. Your choice? Run. Hide. No more than that, you must survive this. Great game.

Greatest horror game which i played. The mystery of the story and the dark scary scenery keeps you excited to play. Walls falling, failed experiments lurking around, shadows, screems, puzzles and a fat big monster chasing you through the whole game. There is no way out, you are trapped all alone with your camera and with hope that you will get out alive somehow. It's the most realistic game in the world that could describe the greatest horrifying experience.

Your heart beats fast... You begin to live a world of horror and a world of pain . You start to panic and you cry. You only have your camera and your batteries to survive. This is a great survival, first person game that will scare you. It heavily relies on jump scares and also terrifying scenes from getting your fingers cut off with scissors all the way to getting attacked by creatures. The realistic graphics force you to live each second of the game. So, are you ready to face your fears!?

As the survival horror genre making a comeback this title creates an unforgettable atmosphere and story for the player to piece together. Set in a rundown asylum filled with very interesting residents who will leave you shivering and wondering even after you step away from the keyboard. The gameplay is simple and easy to pick up but creates enough finesse to make each encounter unique.

The horror genre, in general, very much relies on cheap jump-scares. With a few exceptions, Outlast stayed above that. The eeriness crept up on you slowly, but never slapped you in the face.

Outlast represents Red Barrels' answer to those who often complain about the lack of real fear in modern horror games. Few developers have managed to offer such a disturbing but fascinating experience, and even less have proven able to give players no occasions to run... nor think. And that, as we all know, is exactly what a fan of the genre expects.

OUTLAST, a game where you run, keep running, tired? no time to rest, try to hide, Knock Knock, found you !, run again. breathtaking game, with it's own atmosphere. one camera with night vision, few batteries, is all what you got. your target is, to survive. at some point you just feel like you just want to finish the game and see the lights again. the game's atmosphere makes you stop at every corner, move slowly, Check everything trying not to be seen, but, Good luck with that. a Must play game.

Very few games nail the creepy and eery atmosphere that accompanies a horror game. Outlast manages to show exactly what most horror games lack, a very creepy setting with jump-scares, elements of platformers and stealth. The graphics have a very sombre tone, showing a gritty mental asylum with it's completely insane patients. Low-end machines can also benefit from the wonderful graphics, with Outlast having a ton of settings, making for a very well made and optimised game .

This game is just amazing! The way it is made and it's minimalistic approach to the horror genre is just superb! Graphics is also very good, detailed and the game can be easily played even on the low-end machine without stuttering and lags. The shiniest gems of this game are storyline and atmosphere (running around and hiding from villains while relieving only to your camera and it's night vision view, but also, keep in mind that the batteries are very scarce and they tend to fade rather quick )
