“Cry of Fear” is a game that doesn’tfail to pack a punch. It’s a mod of “Half Life’  that’s managed to be wickedly successful on its own…winning many awards and becoming a fan favorite. 

You play a teenage boy who gets hit by a car and wakes up alone and confused in an alley full of grotesque monsters that are out to kill him. He has no idea what’s going on, as he explores the cold of Scandinavia, searching for answers.

With more characters, more death and a much more haunting atmosphere than its counterpart, “The Evil Within”. I’m sure you’re bound to get a dose of fear and adrenaline. 

18. Five Nights At Freddy’s

You play as a guy who suffers from insomnia and decides to take on a night job watching over Freddy’s Pizza. Little do you know that things seem to be getting strange around the restaurant at night. 

You come to realize that the animatronic dolls decorating the restaurant are a lot more sinister than they seem. Can you escape their wrath and survive your nightly duties? 

Make sure you maintain your power as it depletes throughout the game. Use the surveillance cameras to your advantage and try to survive the five nights. 

“Five Nights At Freddy’s” deserves all the popularity it has gained and remains the best introduction to horror games for kids. 

17. The Quarry

Who doesn’t love the classic horror trope of camp counsellors at a murderous summer camp? “The Quarry” lets you play as nine camp counsellors who must fight against vengeful locals and supernatural monsters. 

Just when you thought you were going home after a fun summer, your car breaks down and you guys decide to party while waiting for another means of transportation. But you get more than what you bargained for when there’s an evil lurking in the woods. 

Unlike most classic horror/summer camp movies, there are supernatural monsters, rather than a generic serial killers. 

If you loved the movie “Cabin in the Woods” you’ll have a dreadfully, terrifying blast playing “The Quarry”.

16. Dead By Daylight

“Dead By Daylight” is a totally original concept of horror consisting of4 versus 1 multiplayer. One person plays the savage killer and the others play the survivors who are trying to escape without being tracked down.

The survivors have the advantage of being able to work together to maneuver a plan. Whereas the killer is ruthless and if he catches you, you get tortured, killed and hung like slabs of meat. 

While the game has a simple concept, you’d be surprised by the depth of the characters, and all the fun horror references in the game. 

“Dead by Daylight” is a game that should not be missed. 

15. Dying Light Stay Human

You get to explore the open world of Camp Crystal Lake where you find various weapons and means of defence against Jason. Or you get to hunt down and slaughter the counsellors in fun, campy ways that are reminiscent of the classic film series. 

With callbacks to all the different versions of Jason from the series. You can’t help but enjoy a terrifying taste of nostalgia. 

13. Outlast 2

There’s a ton of suspense, mystery and a top-down perspective that gives the game an extra dose of terror. Explore, scavenge and improve your skills during the day. And by night, hide, survive and try not to go mad from the separation of reality. 

“Darkwood” is one of the most atmospherically, haunting games ever made for PC. You won’t want to miss the wicked graphics and intriguing storyline. 

10. Little Nightmares

In the world of Resident Evil, just when you think you’re safe, there’s something else right about to get you. Battle for your and your family’s lives and try to find a new way to live free of the abominations that have encapsulated the new world.

“Resident Evil Village” is the seventh installment in the franchise and lives up to its reputation of gore and fear. It has spectacular graphics, terrifying monsters and a sinfully fascinating storyline.

If you love Resident Evil and all things horror this is the game for you.

6. Dead Space

While “Dead Space” might be old, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t effectively scare us to the point of losing sleep. The game has gathered popularity and a massive fan following, which has inspired them to make a remake that is coming out sometime this year. Take ship as an Engineer named, Isaac Clarke, as he takes a job to repair a damaged space vessel. When you arrive you see that the crew has been slaughtered by an alien scourge. Soon after you realize some of the crew are still alive but infected with a dangerous virus.

Can you escape the ship without being ripped to shreds or infected?

There’s a lot more to the game regarding the story and things you need to accomplish. The world runs off mining resources and there’s a market of trading and selling, as well as cultists that are causing turmoil.

There’s absolutely no reason not to love everything about this classic horror masterpiece.

5. Silent Hill 2

(Available on PC, Xbox and Playstation 2)

“Silent Hill 2” remains one of the best horror games ever made. Considering it was made in 2001 and continues to be one of the most played games by a ton of horror fans all over the world.

Play as a character named, James Sunderland, as he ventures through the supernatural town of Silent Hill. He receives a letter from his wife. But what’s strange is she died 3 years prior and she claims to be alive in this bizarre town.

Was the letter a prank? If it was.... the person really knew how to copy your wife’s writing. You figure it’s worth the dangers and you embark on a strange and terrifying quest to find the answers you’re looking for.

The tone and atmosphere of the game are extremely similar to the earlier “Silent Hill”, and the film that it was based on. Don’t let the terrible quality of the trailer deter you from playing this near-perfect horror classic.

4. Alien: Isolation

“Alien: Isolation” is an impressively creative sequel to the movie “Alien”. You get to play as Amanda Ripley, who is in search of her mother, Ellen Ripley aboard the space station, Sevastopol.

If you’re a fan of the movie…what better way to keep the story going than to introduce the main character’s daughter to reprise her role?

She quickly discovers that the space station has been infested with aliens and needs to escape. Gather resources, make quick decisions and stay hidden when necessary as you enter a desperate battle for survival.

Enjoy the famous universe of “Alien” and try not to get horror-struck by the phenomenal detail and graphics the game entails. 

And the Xenomorphs are incredibly scary!

3. Alan Wake

A vacation in the small town of Bright Falls seems like a good idea until your wife mysteriously goes missing. You play the character Alan Wake, as he tries to uncover the truth of the weird things that are going on in the secluded town.

It’s not very often a psychological suspense-style story that has a lot of action and intensity. But “Alan Wake” does both in a way that’ll fill you with intrigue and adrenaline.

Discover the darkness that’s taking over the town and enjoy all the twists, and turns the story has to offer. Can you find your wife and figure out why it seems one of your novels you’ve never written is coming to life?

Try not to go insane. And enjoy yourself as you unravel clues in one of the best horror adventure games you’ll ever play.

2. Resident Evil 4

The President's daughter has been kidnapped by a murderous cult and it’s up to you to discover her whereabouts. The challenge is keeping yourself alive on your way to the village that’s rumoured to have her located.

“Resident Evil 4” just might be the best in the franchise. It brought horror gaming to a whole new level and has an amazing blend of survival and combat.

The game has all the original zombies from the original games and a whole bunch of new terrifying creatures to challenge you on your mission.

Can you find the President’s daughter as you slaughter zombies that are taking over the European landscape?

Six returns with another little nightmare as she guides a new character (which you play) named, Mono. A dark and ominous tower appears to be giving off evil transmissions that are distorting the world around them. Can you escape with Six while facing all your worst fears along the way?

“Little Nightmares 2” is both adorable and suspensefully terrifying. It’s graphically incredible and has an atmosphere that will make you feel like you’re in the game.

This game does not fail to own up to the previous “Little Nightmare” game and is full of even more horrific fun and a more immersive experience.

It’s definitely my favorite horror adventure game to play on PC.
