[Top 10] D&D Best Rogue Armor And Weapons

The D&D Player’s Handbook states that “Rogues rely on skill, stealth, and their foes’ vulnerabilities to get the upper hand in any situation. They have a knack for finding the solution to just about any problem, demonstrating a resourcefulness and versatility that is the cornerstone of any successful adventuring party.”  As resourceful as rogues are (I currently play one), they can always use armor and weaponry to enhance skills and increase chances of survival in an encounter. Through gameplay and research, I have found stellar armor and weapons that can improve any rogue’s performance in adventuring and encounters. Read on to find out more!

10. Boots of Elvenkind

Although considered as a wondrous item, the Boots of Elvenkind cover the feet, so they could be technically considered as armor. Not only are the earthy brown and green boots ornately decorated, but they are also made for roguing. In my opinion, these should be renamed Stealth Boots, because this is exactly what they are.  Read on to find out more about these amazing boots!

Why Boots of Elvenkind are great

  • The wearer of the Boots of Elvenkind literally does not make a sound, even if the substance that the rogue is walking on is creaky wood or snapping twigs.
  • This is excellent for Rogues to use while attacking, because they have an advantage when striking enemies unnoticed.

How to get Boots of Elvenkind

  • This is considered as an Uncommon item, so Boots of Elvenkind are not impossible to find. They may be available at a specialized magic shop or tucked away in a locked treasure chest.
  • The boots cost 2,000 gp or can be free if pilfered from the feet of a dead enemy.

Boots of Elvenkind details:

  • Rogues who wear the Boots of Elvenkind have an additional bonus to their Dexterity (Stealth) checks.
  • Unlike many magical items, the Boots of Elvenkind do not require an attunement before use.

9. Boots of Speed

I would love to have these boots for my rogue and for me in real life! With a click of the heels, the Boots of Speed literally doubles the rogue’s walking rate for up to 10 minutes. That would come in handy for either attacks or hasty retreats. Also, anyone attacking someone who has enacted the Boots of Speed will do so at a disadvantage. Read on to find out why the Boots of Speed are among the best for your Rogue!

Why Boots of Speed are great

  • Dexterity is a Rogue’s main attribute in D&D 5e, so sporting these lovely items will make them even faster.
  • Sometimes a Rogue must make a hasty retreat from battle, especially if they roll low on a sneak attack, so these boots would be ideal.

How to get Boots of Speed:

  • These are rare, so they will most likely not be available in a shop. Your DM may have them hidden in a place for the party members to locate them, or you may have to open a locked and trapped chest to find them.
  • The Boots of Speed are worth approximately 4,000 gp.

Boots of Speed details:

  • The Boots of Speed will require an attunement by a spellcaster.
  • This item is lightweight, only weighing 3 pounds.
  • After 10 minutes of use by the wearer, a long rest is required before the boots can be used again.

8. Dancing Sword

This silver and blue weapon is lightweight (weighing 3 pounds), ornate, and powerful. The beauty of this item is that with a command word, the sword will fly up to 30 feet in the air on its own and attack opponents within 5 feet! Read on to find out why the Dancing Sword is an excellent one to use!

Why Dancing Sword is great

  • The Dancing Sword is an extension of the wielder, so it will take on the wielder’s Attack Modifier and modifier to damage.
  • Wielders of the weapon, if within 5 feet, will have hands free to attack or defend.
  • The Dancing Sword allows the wielder to attack without being in the direct line of harm.

How to get Dancing Sword:

  • This item is considered as Very Rare, so it will most likely be found in an aristocrat’s collection or in the hands of an enemy.
  • Since the Dancing Sword is so rare, it is worth at least 50,000 gp.

Dancing Sword details:

  • The Dancing Sword requires an attunement by a spellcaster before use.
  • Since the Dancing Sword is considered as a one or two-handed weapon, and Rogues can only use one-handed weapons, check with your DM for permission to use in the campaign.
  • Although Rogues are renowned for sneaking up on enemies, the Dancing Sword cannot be used in a sneak attack.

7. Glamoured Studded Leather

Although Rogues have a lot of abilities, they also have some restrictions concerning both armor and weaponry. Rogues are only allowed to wear cloth or leather armor, probably because it would be difficult to sneak attack an enemy with plate mail armor. Since options are limited on armor, Rogues would benefit from Glamoured Studded Leather. Read on to find out why this is among the best armor for Rogues!

Why Glamoured Studded Leather is great

  • The wearer can change the appearance of the armor to look like they are wearing heavier armor or no armor. The Rogue can become a fashion plate!
  • Glamoured Studded Leather gives the wearer an Armor Class (AC) boost of +1. Since Rogues cannot wear heavier armor to better their score, the +1 will help.

  • This item will set you back 15,000 gp, but it is worth it!
  • As a rare item, the Glamoured Studded Leather will most likely be found on the person of a dead opponent or stashed securely in a treasure chest.

6. Gloves of Thievery

The name of this item has “Rogue” written all over it! Although listed as a wondrous item, I am including this magical item as armor because they cover the hands. A party member or enemy detecting magic will know that the Gloves of Thievery are considered an Illusion and have a basic brown aura in color. Read on to find out why this wondrous item is terrific armor for Rogues!

Why Gloves of Thievery are great

  • When the gloves are on the wearer's hands, they become invisible (the gloves not the hands), so enemies do not know that they are being worn.
  • This item is great for picking locks on doors, pickpocketing an enemy (or another party member depending on alignment). or removing a trap.

How to get Gloves of Thievery:

  • Gloves of Thievery will set a PC back at least 6,000 gp.
  • Although considered as an Uncommon item, these magic gloves will most likely be in a locked chest or in the hands of an enemy.

Gloves of Thievery details:

  • The main appeal for the Gloves of Thievery is that the wearer gains +5 to Dexterity and Sleight of Hand. Add the bonus to a Rogue’s already high Dexterity and skills score and that will be beneficial for the wearer and the party, especially when locks need to be picked.
  • This magical item does not require an attunement.

5. Luck Blade

The Luck Blade is a Legendary item and has a lot of benefits! When not granting wishes or giving luck, the Luck Blade acts as a +2 sword. 4. Scimitar of Speed

Speed is a dexterous Rogue’s middle name, so the Scimitar of Speed would make an effective weapon of choice! • Studded Leather Armor +3 is considered as Legendary, so it will not be readily available in a magic shop. Most likely, it will be on the body of an enemy or located in a dragon’s lair.

I like the article! Out of curiosity, though, where are you getting the prices from? Uncommon items cost 500 GP max. Secondly, I'm pretty sure rogues can wear any kind of armor. I looked, and didn't find any restrictions.
