DOTA 2: How To Change Language

Dota 2 change language

DOTA 2 averages over 400,000 online players at any given time. Given that, it’s obvious English won’t be everyone’s first language. If that’s you, consider yourself lucky; Changing the interface language in DOTA 2 is pretty easy.

So here’s how you can change the language in DOTA 2.

Step 1: Open up your Steam Library.

Near the top of the Steam app, there are several tabs labeled "Store", "Library", and "Community". Click Library and Steam should show all your owned games nicely listed.

The list’s in alphabetical order by default. In it, you should find DOTA 2.

Step 2: Open Game Properties

Once in the Library, click DOTA 2 in the left-hand side column of games.

Here, you’ll find three buttons on the far right side of your screen. From left to right, we have a Gear, a lower-case “i”, and a star.

Click the Gear to open up Game Properties.

Alternatively, you can simply right-click DOTA 2 in the list of games to your left. That should open a context menu with "Properties" at the bottom. Click that.

Step 3: Set Launch Options

In the newly opened Properties window, there are a bunch of tabs.

In the “General” tab, you’ll find a heading named “Launch Options” with an empty text window under it.

Here, write -language <language>.

For example, if you wanna play the game in Italian, type -language Italian.

You can check whether DOTA 2 is available in your language here.

Step 4: Close Properties and Launch the game

That’s it. Once you’ve typed the command, close the Properties window.

Here's an older tutorial if you’re still confused.

The next time you launch DOTA 2, the interface language should be the one you chose.
