[Top 10] SWTOR Best Mounts And How To Get Them

SWTOR Best Mounts
Speed around in style on one of the many mounts offered in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

A fun aspect of Star Wars: The Old Republic is hands down its wide array of unique and interesting mounts. Feeling inclined towards tech? There’s plenty of walkers, jetpacks and speeders for every taste – and if you’re looking for something more organic, the number of creature mounts is astounding! Whatever catches your interest, you’re sure to find it in SWTOR. There’s a few mounts however, that definitely take the cake when it comes to visual appeal or making a fashion statement. Here, you’ll find the best mounts that SWTOR has to offer, complete with their prices and how to get them!

Before we dive in, let’s talk about currencies when it comes to mounts:

  • Cartel Coins: This is SWTOR’s premium currency, coins purchased with real-life money through the Cartel Market. This is a sure-fire way to get a Cartel-sold mount, but has the small drawback of costing you a few dollars.
  • In-game credits: These are currency you accumulate just by playing the game! It’s easy to gather a large sum these days, so if you don’t want to dish out a few bucks for premium currency, go ahead and check the Galactic Trade Network (GTN). This network allows players from all factions to put items up for sale. Remember: prices on the GTN are set by players, so they often wildly fluctuate. It’s a good habit to keep checking up on the price of an item you’re interested in, so you know what it generally goes for, and more importantly, know when the price is low (and when to buy)!
  • Other currencies: There are a few other currencies in the game that can help you buy the mount of your dreams, depending on which you’re looking into. The only ones we’ll be mentioning here are Ranked Tokens and Cartel Market Certificates. For Ranked Tokens, you gain these simply by playing Ranked PvP matches – easy enough. Cartel Market Certificates used to be a very rare currency before 6.0, but with the changes made to the annual Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event, these can be easily obtained by playing the slot machines when the event comes around each summer.

10. Aquatic Sleen

If you’ve ever wanted to ride into battle atop a noble steed – or lizard, the Aquatic Sleen is sure to get you where you’re going in style. It’s easy to love this striking mount, especially when showing it off in a crowd.

  • There are two other versions of sleen mounts, but this one is without a doubt the most colorful, with its bold teal swatches and contrasting pale blue lines.
  • As a rarer mount, lots of people haven’t even seen this out in the world, let alone have one themselves!

It’s no varactyl, but it’s a lot cheaper than one! Since the Aquatic Sleen only drops from the Legacy of the Rakata Flashpoint, it’s much rarer than a varactyl, too. There’s a higher rate of the drop on Master Mode versions of Legacy of the Rakata, but I personally acquired mine by doing the Solo version, which is extremely easy, and allows you to grind out the Flashpoint multiple times until you get the drop without too much frustration (and without the added worry of a group member snagging the mount from under you).

Price: Absolutely free!

See the Aquatic Sleen in action: Unfortunately, no videos currently exist for the Aquatic Sleen, however a similar mount exists with the same body shape (just a different color), so you can get a general idea here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0af8wpLhxc&ab_channel=Dulfy

9. MSM J-37 Jetpack

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like Boba Fett or Din Djarin, this is the perfect choice for you! Stylish and an excellent addition to any Bounty Hunter, this jetpack will blow you away.

  • The MSM J-37 is one of the more compact and sleek-looking jetpacks available, made to be much more in line with your character’s form than some of the others. You’ll look like you’re floating on air!
  • Has a mount flourish, which pops out extra jets along each side of the mount to give you an air of speed!

Price: 1,500 Cartel Coins or around 90 million in-game credits when purchased from the GTN

8. Command Throne

The Command Throne is a stylish and imposing way to arrive. Quiet and drenched in absolute comfort (and unlimited power!), this mount is a great accessory for any Sith.

  • Proudly let your allegiances be known by displaying the holographic Imperial symbol above your throne.
  • This is a unique pose for a mount, which has your character patiently sitting with their legs crossed. It gives off a very “in-charge” vibe!
  • Collecting all three Command Thrones is an achievement under the Legacy Possessions tab called “Throne Owner”.

There’s a few variations of the Command Throne out there. All three hail from the Cartel Market, and were at one point, exclusives. Currently, the Dominator’s Throne is the only one in the Cartel Market, while the others can be purchased from the GTN. The Overlord’s Command Throne is also able to be bought from a vendor in the Cartel Bazaar, but you must have 10 Cartel Market Certificates and some reputation standing with that vendor’s faction.

Price:

Shadow Hand’s Command Throne - 100 million in-game credits when purchased from the GTN

Dominator’s Command Throne - 2,400 Cartel Coins or 65 million in-game credits when purchased from the GTN

Overlord’s Command Throne - 100,000 in-game credits and 10 Cartel Market Certificates when purchased from Settar Upredas in the Cartel Bazaar or 100 million in-game credits when purchased from the GTN

7.  Meditation Hoverchair

The Hoverchair mounts are a beloved choice for many players, Sith and Jedi alike. Nothing else quite says “I’m Force Sensitive” like the Hoverchair does.

  • Another mount with a unique pose, you will look as though you are lost in tranquil meditations as you zoom across the galaxy.
  • Each of the datacrons surrounding the Hoverchair spin in their places, giving this mount some very interesting visual appeal.
  • Like the Command Thrones, collecting all three of the Meditation Hoverchair variations also counts as an achievement: “Harness the Forcepower”!

All three of the Hoverchair variations are Cartel Market items, but this doesn’t mean you have to spend premium currency to acquire them. Like the Command Thrones, one version is up for sale in the Cartel Market currently, while another is able to be purchased at the Bazaar. As always, you can find almost anything on the GTN, so it’s never a bad spot to check.

Price:

Ambassador’s Meditation Hoverchair - 2,400 Cartel Coins or around 50 million in-game credits when purchased from the GTN

Diplomat’s Meditation Hoverchair - 100,000 in-game credits and 10 Cartel Market Certifications when purchased from Settar Upredas or around 40 million in-game credits when purchased from the GTN

Watchman’s Meditation Hoverchair - around 65 million in-game credits when purchased from the GTN. Keep a lookout for flash sales in the Cartel Market: just because this mount isn’t currently listed there, doesn’t mean it won’t be at some point!

6. Replica Giradda’s Rancor

This is a favorite mount in the community, purely for its bright colors. While it’s not as much of a status symbol these days, this mount used to be an indicator that you were a Ranked PvP player.

  • Brilliantly colored, the Replica Giradda’s Rancor looks exactly like the Season 1 Ranked reward, brought back by popular demand!
  • Your rancor will glow and catch many eyes simply by stomping by with you perched safely on top!

All you have to do to knab this mount is play some Ranked PvP matches. Win or lose, you will gain a certain amount of Tokens at the end of each match that you can use to purchase this mount from Tullek, the Ranked Token vendor found on your faction’s Fleet. This is the only way so far to acquire this look, so if you love its bright purple and yellow accents, start throwing yourself into Ranked!

Price: 200,000 Ranked PvP Reward Tokens

5. Red Sphere

Surround yourself with the technology of the Gree! You’re sure to look like you belong to their ancient and mysterious enclave while cruising around on this badass mount.

  • You can get different colored versions of the Red Sphere (Blue and Cyan), but having this particular color is definitely an eye-catcher and is bound to get you some stares due to its rarity!
  • The sphere itself has small animations in the areas surrounding your character that make you feel as if you entered into the Matrix!
  • This mount has a unique pose for your character when equipped (seen above).

This mount only drops from Hard Mode Xenoanalyst II (a single-boss Operation) during the Gree event, and is based purely on RNG. From my experience, the 16-man version of Hard Mode Xeno tends to drop this mount more often than the 8-man version. All you can do is cross your fingers and hope to see it in the loot when it drops!

Price: Free, as long as you have a group that can clear the boss and are lucky enough to roll the highest on the drop.

4. Wings of the Dragon

Take the exoskeleton of the Machine God Izax himself. Another jetpack themed mount, you’ll feel as if you too, are a Machine God with this set of wings on.

  • The Wings of the Dragon come equipped with a mount flourish: a shield akin to Izax’s very own materializes around you at your whim!
  • Each of the panels along the side of the mount move slightly with your mount’s movements, just as they did when they were attached to Izax.

Unfortunately, this mount is only able to be obtained by completing Valley of the Machine Gods on Master Mode, which is quite challenging. You will need a competent group of players who understand how to deal with raid mechanics to get through this Operation, and even then, the drop of the Wings of the Dragon is not guaranteed.

Price: Because it’s a raid drop, it’s essentially free. All you need is luck.

3. Dread Enhanced Rancor / Cybernetic Rancor

If you love the rancor scene from Return of the Jedi, this is a good mount choice for you. Unlike the Giradda Rancor, this particular mount has a more movie-style look, with the added bonus of cybernetic parts!

  • Come crashing into the scene atop a gargantuan rancor that looks as though it's been assembled by a mad scientist!
  • These two mounts both have prosthetic feet and arms attached to their organic parts. In the case of the Cybernetic Rancor, the artificial arm also crackles with electricity!

Another mount that is exclusively acquired from a raid, the Dread Enhanced Rancor is a guaranteed drop on a successful clear of the final encounter in Master Mode Dread Palace. If raiding is not your forte, you might try the Eternal Championship, which is fun in itself and is a good first step if you are thinking about trying raiding, as it tests your awareness and teaches you how to survive difficult encounters. The Cybernetic Rancor is a rare drop from a successful Eternal Championship run, and only differs from the Dread Enhanced Rancor based on its skin color and the presence of an electrified cybernetic arm – besides that, there really isn’t a huge difference. Both are rare and exciting to see when out and about!

Price: Free, on both accounts. Less luck is involved with the Dread Enhanced version, as it’s a guaranteed drop. However, the Cybernetic version is based on RNG, and requires a little more luck.

No video available for the Dread Enhanced Rancor, however you can view the Cybernetic Rancor below, and get the general idea!

2. Helix Hyperpod

A highly prized mount, known for its intriguing visuals, the Helix Hyperpod is definitely a favorite mount among SWTOR community members. As one of the absolute rarest drops, it’s always ogled over.

  • With moving pieces that swirl about the outside of the mount, the Helix Hyperpod is mesmerizing to behold, and is sure to catch the eye of all you pass.
  • Like the Hoverchairs, your character will have a meditative pose as they contemplate all the secrets of the Gree on this technological wonder!

This mount is a little more finicky when it comes to acquisition: it only drops from the final boss of Master Mode Terror from Beyond, and is by no means a guaranteed drop, and seemingly drops very rarely. It’s best to pray to RNGesus for this particular mount. It’s definitely worth the trouble however, as it’s perhaps one of the most striking mounts in the game.

Price: Free, as long as you have a raid team that can clear Terror from Beyond and add in a dash of luck!

1. Wings of the Architect

Perhaps one of the most coveted mounts in the game, the Wings of the Architect are basically a status symbol. If you’re trying to achieve the look of any of the Dread Masters, the Wings of the Architect are a must-have to complete the cosplay.

  • Fly around in style with Dread Master Brontes’ very own wings attached to your back!
  • Each wing attached to your back looks like the fabled Hands and Fingers of Dread Master Brontes, adds that accompany her within her unique raid encounter.
  • Some players also call these wings “the Doc Ock look”, since they’re very visually similar to the mechanical appendages attached to his back in the Marvel Comics.

Only obtainable in Master Mode Dread Fortress, they are a guaranteed drop from defeating Dread Master Brontes. There are some dedicated raid teams who sell Wings runs, but acquiring the mount in this manner is sure to cost you a very hefty price (over 250 million in-game credits, at the very least). The best way is to be on a team yourself – many teams will do multiple runs of the same boss to ensure that everyone has one of these special mounts.

Price: Free, given you can clear MM Dread Fortress

“Best” is subjective, but as far as the community of SWTOR is concerned, these mounts above are definitely up there on the list of must-haves. Most of the coolest looking ones do come from completing Operations, which may not be for everyone, especially if you are set on being a more casual player. If that’s the case, remember that the Cartel Market is always available, and you can easily look through the array of mounts for sale there, or take a dip into the GTN to see what other players are currently selling. Keep your eyes peeled and stay stylish!
