8. Pyramid Head - Silent Hill 2

There are few video game monsters as notorious as Pyramid Head. In Silent Hill 2 all the monsters represent an aspect of main character James Sunderland. For instance, the oversexualized nurses with no face represent James’s pent-up sexual desires. The breasts are the important part after all. Just take a wild guess when the mannequins symbolize.

Pyramid Head is depicted as a man in a bloodied butcher’s smock with a triangular metal head and a great knife as a weapon. He represents James Sunderland’s desire to be punished for the death of his wife Mary. Spoiler: James may or may not be directly responsible for Mary’s death.

It is stated that another character in the game, Eddie, is unable to see the monster. This suggests that Pyramid Head exists in Silent Hill solely for James. Is there anything more terrifying than having your own personal boogieman?
