[Top 10] Bastion Best Gear In The Game

Get me that bow!

I’m going to be honest here, there’s no exact best gear for this game. It all depends on your playing style. After all, there are thirteen different weapon options and combos, secret skills, and Spirits(powerups).

As for the importance of gear it is important to have the right ones for the job. However, I can say that the Dueling pistols with the War Machete and a Fetching Fizz Spirit are perfect almost all the time.

1. Flame Bellows

Burn baby burn

Alright, this to me is the number one BEST weapon/gear option is the whole game. Who wouldn’t want what is essentially a flame thrower as their primary weapon? Then the Secret Skill of Burning Carousel that spins the character in a circle with the flamethrower is rather epic.

The effectiveness of this weapon is not anything to laugh at. As a ranged weapon it does a good job with small time enemies and can still do other enemies damage if they get too close. Reload time isn’t terrible either.

What Flame Bellows Excels In:

  • Offense
  • Ranged attack
  • Keeping enemies from getting too close

Flame Bellows Stats once upgraded:

  • Sustainable Fuel (+20% Fuel Generation)
  • Napalm Reservoir (Flames Cause Lasting Burn)
  • Cooling Intake (+20% Fuel Generation)
  • Contoured Grip (+25% Attack Speed)
  • Streamlined Furnace (Move Faster While Attacking)
  • Volatile Fuel (Flames Spread Wider)
  • Thermite Reservoir (+1 Damage Per Flame)
  • Modified Intake (Flames Cripple Foes)
  • Shielded Grip (Damage Resistance When Firing)
  • Industrial Furnace (Large Attack Range Increase, Cannot Move and Fire)

How To Get Flame Bellows:

In the area known as Colford Cauldron it is surrounded on three sides by a wall of thorns. Your character just walks up to it and picks it up.

2. Dueling Pistols

Show your face dummy!

I think I may have spoken on this before but these things are my next favorite weapon in this game. Besides feeling like an old western gunslinger they can be quite accurate. Once upgraded there are some fantastic stats to be had.

These pistols tend to get more effective once upgraded. From better ammo capacity to bullets knocking enemies back or doing a ricochet once it makes contact they are quite a force to be reckoned with and should be in anyone’s top 3 most used.

What Dueling Pistols Excels In:

  • Ranged attack- bullets can cause damage or ricochet off enemies
  • Damage- upgraded damage increases
  • Reload time- faster than other weapons available

How To Get Dueling Pistols:

They are found stashed inside a log at the start of the Wild Outskirts

Dueling Pistols stats:

  • Expanded Cylinders (+4 Ammo Capacity)
  • Speedloader Chambers (+25% Faster Reload)
  • Wild Powder (Bullets Ricochet on Contact)
  • Tranquilizer Barrels (Bullets Cripple Foes)
  • Hollow-Jacket Rounds (Bullets Cause Knockback)
  • Sealed Cylinders (Bullet Scatter Eliminated)

  • Cauldron Powder (+1 Target Penetrations Per Shot)
  • Hunting Barrels (+25% Damage)
  • Armor-Eater Rounds (Bullets Ignore Armor

3. Fang Repeater

Shoot to win!

An auto reloading crossbow of sorts that can have a powerful enough attack to hit two small enemies at once. This is just one I keep coming back to because of the ease of use.

It’s effectiveness in the beginning does not seem like much. Once upgraded it gets better on ammo and reload time.

What Fang Repeater Excels In:

  • Range attacks- multiple bolt use in one reload
  • Speed- upgrades allow for more speed which can equal more damage
  • Getting rid of enemies- when surrounded this can be an effective tool to solve the problem

How To Get Fang Repeater: It is found early in the game on the Rippling Walls area

Fang Repeater stats:

  • Double Clip (+8 Ammo Capacity)
  • Heavy Bolts (+50% Damage)
  • Hollowed Chamber (+8 Ammo Capacity)
  • Reinforced Piston (+50% Damage)
  • Bounding Critters (Bullets Ricochet)
  • Speed Clip (+55% Reload Speed)
  • Flurry Bolts (Higher Firing Rate, Increased Spread)
  • Grooved Chamber (+55% Reload Speed)
  • Multi-Piston (Higher Firing Rate, Increased Spread)
  • Tracking Critters (Bullets Seek Targets)

4. Cael Hammer

Show me where they are

The Cael Hammer is the most basic tool starting out but don’t be fooled. The secret skills make this particular weapon quite useful.

Effectiveness depends on the player. This weapon is great for close combat and packs quite a bit of damage once upgraded. Being the first weapon you come across in the game also makes it a useful tool as you learn game mechanics.

What Cael Hammer Excels In:

  • Attack- being a close combat weapon means this weapon can do damage
  • Damage-the power increases the longer the button is held down making it a formidable weapon.
  • Keeping enemies away with secret skills

How To Get Cael Hammer: As you walk through the first level called Rippling Walls it appears near end of level, then enemies attack

  • Craftsman Shaft (+100% Critical Hit Damage)
  • Bell Face (Overhead Strikes Can Stun)
  • Ura Engravings (+25% Critical Hit Chance, +150% Critical Hit Damage

5. War Machete

Goodbye Squirt

This weapon is found early in the game. It has range with power throw making it a decent full rounded weapon.

Effectiveness with this one can be hit or miss depending on your preferences. I don’t use it as often due to lack of funds/upgrade-required items. But that does not mean this weapon cannot be used. In fact power throw may save you precious time if needed when fighting multiple enemies.

What War Machete Excels In:

  • Range- with the throwing ability it turns into more than just a close combat option
  • Damage- using power throw you can hit targets farther away and do more damage
  • Versatility- being a close combat and ranged weapon comes in handy more than you would think.

How To Get War Machete: found in Workmen Ward near end of area

  • Combat Handle (+100% Critical Hit Damage)

  • Graver Bolster (+50% Attack Speed)
  • Serrated Edge (Attacks Cripple* Foes, Attacks Deal Damage Over Time)
  • Launch Handle (+1 Blades Per Throw)
  • Scumbag Tip (Attacks Cripple, Attacks Deal Damage Over Time)
  • Split Spine (+1 Blades Per Throw)
  • Ura Bolster (+50% Damage from Power-Shot Throws)

6. Bullhead Shield

Can't touch me

It has been said before but this is still a really good option for defense. In fact, it is the only defense option available in the game.

A shield is for defense pure and simple. This one just comes with an added bonus of countering enemy attacks if done right before the moment of impact. It is one that should almost always be your weapon of choice.

What Bullhead Shield Excels In:

  • Defense- protection from attack coming directly at you
  • Counter- used at very last moment will turn enemy attacks back upon themselves

How To Get Bullhead Shield: Scavenged from the Saloon on the Rippling Walls

Bullhead Shield stats:

No stats to speak of

7. Brusher’s Pike

Can't touch this

Primarily used to strike at enemies and objects from a safer distance this still makes the top 10. Reason being it can save a lot of trouble from enemies that happen to be blocking progress forward but the enemies themselves are stationary.

Effective at getting rid of enemies like the pincushion which spits thorns/spikes and can block the way ahead. The pike eliminates the possibility of needing close range or taking damage when used correctly.

What Brusher’s Pike Excels In:

  • Ranged attack- stab at enemies from a distance or thrown
  • Damage- using power throw can make this weapon quite dangerous over longer distances

How To Get Brusher’s Pike: found in the Wilds area

Brusher’s Pike stats:

Level 1 (200 Cr)

  • Reinforced Shaft (+15% Critical Hit Chance)
  • Hollowed Shaft (+50% Throw Reload Speed)

Level 4 (1650 Cr)

  • Heavy Counterweight (+50% Damage)
  • Light Counterweight (+50% Throw Reload Speed)

Level 5 (2075 Cr)

  • Barbed Spearhead (Attacks Ignore Armor)
  • Splitter Spearhead (+1 Spears Per Throw)

8. Scrap Musket

I shoot to win!

Pretty decent weapon all things considered. It has range with the ammo spread to back itself up.

Effectiveness increases with upgrades but is decent enough as it is. Only downside is the slow firing rate.

What Scrap Musket Excels In:

  • Range- multiple shot spread
  • Can hit multiple enemies at once
  • Knockback damage- useful it keeping enemies away

How To Get Scrap Musket: Hit a switch in Cinderbrick fort which raises the cage that the musket is under

  • Impact Shells (Increased Knockback)
  • Assault Stock (+33% Faster Reload)
  • Expanded Chamber (Increased Knockback)
  • Ura Flintlock (Shots Cripple)

9. Army Carbine

Shoot em up

This one has good and bad points. Good points are heavy damage and can be used as a close combat option. Bad points are it can be inaccurate unless you hold down the button to improve accuracy.

As to effectiveness it CAN get rid of enemies but only if you hold down the button for power to get good accuracy. Otherwise it is not the most accurate or effective weapon without upgrading.

What Army Carbine Excels In:

  • Damage- gets better when power button is held down for longer than a moment
  • Point blank range- heavy damage

  • Reflex Scope (+50% Aiming Speed)
  • Razor Rounds (Bullets ignore armor)

10. Breaker’s Bow

Here to win

Breaker’s bow is the third weapon you get in the game. It’s a ranged weapon with powershot options.

It is effective in disposing of enemies from a distance and causing damage if a powershot is used. Also has decent capabilities on its own but is not a personal favorite.

What Breaker’s Bow Excels In:

  • Range- disposes of enemies from a distance
  • Damage

How To Get Gear Name: In the Wharf district at the beginning you fall on it
