Game of Thrones: 21 Things That Should Never Have Happened
The 21 things we think should not have happened in Game of Thrones
It's that time of year again everyone. One of the most captivating shows Game of Thrones is coming back this year, even if it is a little on the late side. We're going to take a look back at some of the episodes of season's pass to point out some of the problems the showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff produced within some of the most memorable episodes in the show. Come and timetravel back through the Westeros History as we count down the 21 Things That Should Never Had Happened in Game of Thrones.
SEASON 1
21.Viscerys Targaryen Receives a Crown of Boiling Gold
Episode 6 - The Golden Crown - Viscerys Targaryen demands Kahl Drogo to give him the army that he was promised, so that he can reclaim his crown and throne in Westeros. Kahl Drogo says that he agrees and begins to melt his belt of pure gold. His men hold Viscerys as the Kahl pours the hot gold over viserys’ head, killing him.
Almost everyone didn’t like the arrogant Targaryen brother named Viscerys, but did anyone see this coming? Was it too cruel to kill Viscerys with pouring hot gold over his head? And what about the gold itself? It seems to be a waste of good gold on someone like Viscerys. In the end, this could also be considered as “spilling blood” in the Dothraki Holy Land but this didn’t seem to upset anyone, now did it?
Viscerys confronts Daenerys and Kahl Drogo about their agreement to give him an army.
Viscerys Targaryen is Crowned.
20. Poor Ned Stark is Beheaded Mercilessly
Episode 9 - Baelor- Lord Eddard (Ned) Stark is beheaded by Ser llyn Payne by order of the boy King Jeoffrey Baratheon/Lannister for Treason against the Crown
This was just a horror. Fans can howl at George R.R.Martin over killing a man of honor and so early in the storyline, but fans are into the book and show because it doesn’t follow most norms of honorable people winning and bad people losing.
Beheading Eddard Stark was low, and sucks horribly, setting up the rest of his family in ruin. Now fans barely have any good guys left while the bad guys seem to get stronger, but they’re dying off just as fast.
Eddard Stark proclaims his innocence as his elder daughter Sansa Stark is made to witness the execution.
The younger Stark daughter, Arya Stark, hides as she has to witness her father being beheaded.
19. Kahl Drogo’s Mysterious and Unfortunate Death
Episode 10 - Fire and Blood - Kahl Drogo dies after an infection from fighting Mago. The witch Mirri Maz Durr places a curse on the Kahl and the unborn baby, tricking Daenerys that she would help to save them. Daenerys Targaryen burns Kahl Drogo and sacrifices the witch, and from the flames she hatches her dragon eggs.
After Kahl Drogo had sustained his wound he should have took some time to properly let his wound heal before traveling again. Daenerys should have listened to her people and never had listened to the crazy witch from which they just brutally raided her village.
Someone should have stopped this whole situation and spoke some sense to the both of them because this whole scenario made no logical sense anywhere.
Daenerys Targaryen and the Khalasar watch as Kahl Drogo is burned. Also the witch is burned as punishment.
Daenerys Targaryen emerging from the fire with her dragons hatched.
SEASON 2
18. Sansa Stark Should Have Fled Like Arya Did
Episode 4 - Garden Of Bones. King Joffrey Baratheon/Lannister has Ser Meryn Trent of the Kingsguard publically beat and strip Sansa Stark in front of the Court. Tyrion Lannister comes in and stops the abuse.
It’s unclear why Sansa Stark loves to be tortured in this series but she is a glutton for punishment. After King Jeoffrey Baratheon/Lannister beheaded her poor father just because she should have taken this as a sign and tried everything to flee the Red Keep.
Instead, she thought she could show loyalty by being beaten and stripped in front of the whole Court. It did little in the long run, and she could be considered naive at the least for not taking the chance, over and over, to leave the madness known as the Lannisters.

17. Red Priestess Melisandre Magically Gives Birth to Shadow Babies
Episode 4 - Garden Of Bones - the Red Priestess Melisandre gives birth to a shadow baby, who later kills Renly Baratheon to help his older brother Stannis Baratheon to regain the iron throne.
This was just a strange one here. Stannis Baratheon had sex with the Red Priestess Melisandre, and made this monster baby. He ended up paying for playing with magic by aging drastically, and still lost everything in the end.
The only question remains though is, whatever happened to the Shadow Baby Stannis? Did it hang out someplace after killing Renly Baratheon? Did it die when the real Stannis died? These are answers that we’re never fully answered.

16. An Epic Failure of Seizing King’s Landing Should Have Awakened Stannis Baratheon
Episode 9 - Battle of Blackwater Bay - Stannis Baratheon’s fleet is burned when Cersei Lannister/Baratheon uses Wildfire.
Now not a lot of people in the Realm knew about the stash of Wildfire left by the Mad King Aerys ii, but it makes you question, how didn’t the Red Priestess Melisandre didn’t know about it?
She ended up ruining Stannis Baratheon’s fleet by lying to him being Azor Ahai, and after this first blunder you would think that Stannis would have fired her, or even burned her for the loss of his men.
Instead, he ignores clearer heads like Ser Davos Seaworth, and kept getting his butt handed to him, until he died. How did he ever get to command an army in the first place?

SEASON 3
15. Jamie Lannister’s Hand Gets Chopped Off
Episode 3 - Walk of Punishment - Jamie Lannister was the prisoner of Brienne of Tarth, who was taking him to exchange for the Stark girls return to Winterfell. The Brave Companions instead found them and made them both prisoners. While in their camp a man naked Locke ends up cutting off the sword hand of Jamie.
This episode was somewhat bittersweet. As we saw Jamie Lannister’s character changing from a pompous jerk to a repenting broken man his past transgression comes crashing down on him when he pays with his sword hand.
In one sense losing his hand further molded the man into a repenging figure, but then again he still ended up sliding back into his Lannister arrogance. It’s unfortunate that there wasn’t more done to Jamie Lannister to solidify him changing a new leaf, like a good beating or moral humiliation like what happened to his sister, but here’s hoping that he kills Cersei and hooks back up with Brienne of Tarth.

14. The Brutal Red Wedding
Episode 9 - The Rains Of Castamere - The Red Wedding, where Robb Stark, Catelyn Stark, and Taisha Maegry are killed by the Freys. The original story was that Robb Stark had bedded a woman named Jayne Westerling, and marrying her broke the pact of Robb marrying a Frey. The Showrunners changed the character and diverted from the backstory of the original character.
Robb Stark probably didn’t want to marry a Fray woman anyway. The whole family is ugly and rotten people. That being said, did nobody think that him coming in ALREADY MARRIED wouldn’t have pissed off the Freys? Catelyn Stark should have instilled some sense into her son, given that her husband came home with a Bastard himself.
Marrying the Tyroshi girl was stupid since she meant nothing, and they needed him instead to broker a marriage to help their military campaign. Someone wasn’t thinking clearly in this situation, so they all lost their heads for not using them.

13. Theon Greyjoy Loses His Manhood
Episode 10 - Mhysa - Theon Greyjoy was captured, and Ramsey Snow/Bolton was torturing him when he decides to remove Theon’s penis, send it to the Ironborn, and tortures Theon into becoming Reek.
This was just wrong. Theon was teased by whores, then had his manhood removed by Ramsey Snow/Bolton, and then Ramsey teased Theon with a huge sausage, and finally broke his sanity until Theon became his private pet named Reek.
This is like the case from Lorena bobbitt all over again. Ramsey Snow/Bolton was sadistic in his pursuit of power on all fronts which made him the character everyone loved to hate, but did he have to go this far? It’s things like these that should make you worry for Humanity.

SEASON 4
12. Karma FINALLY gets to Jeoffrey Baratheon/Lannister
Episode 2 - The Lion And The Rose - Olenna Tyrell and Littlefinger end up poisoning and killing King Jeoffrey Baratheon/Lannister at the Purple Wedding so that her granddaughter Margaery Tryell doesn’t have to marry a monster.
The World of Westeros and its fans cheered when King Jeoffrey went blue, then purple, and died in Cersei’s arms. They should make a holiday for the day this episode aired it was such an epic moment. The only downfall was that Tyrion Lannister was blamed for giving the boy the cup to drink.
In this world people don’t stop and analyze everything like who poured the wine into the jog Tyrion used, or if the cup was clean before Jeoffrey placed his lips upon it, so it made it near to easy to poison the boy king. Things could have been handled better, and if they could poison Jeoffrey, then why didn’t they poison Cersei when they had the chance?

11. Love Making In All The Wrong Places
Episode 3 - Breaker Of Chains - Jamie Lannister forces sex onto his sister Cersei Baratheon/Lannister in the great sept, where Jeoffrey lies dead.
Jamie Lannister sure knows how to woo a lady. Sex in an abandoned tower in season 1, and now near his dead son’s body!? Well isn’t he a romantic. This episode was just wrong on so many levels, with Cersei fighting him because it was inappropriate to have sex near a dead body and in a Holy place, and plus she was upset and still emotional at losing her beloved monster of a child.
It just comes to show that the Lannister family have more issues than they lead others to believe. A lot of fans also took this scene as showcasing rape since Cersei said “no” but this is Westeros, and women don’t have rights in situations like these. It was a powerful scene if anything, but had so much crap going on.

10. Oberyn Martell makes a fatal mistake
Episode 8 - The Mountain And The Viper - Oberyn Martell (the Viper) fights against Gregor Clegane (the Mountain). Oberyn Martell was winning until he began to boast, and the fight ended in a draw with both fighters dying.
When the trial for Tyrion Lannister began, a lot of people were shocked and yet entertained that the Viper of Dorne Oberyn Martell was commanding the fight against the Mountain Gregor Clegane.
It was always told that the Mountain was hard to kill, and yet this man, who is half his size, was poking him with holes left and right almost. The downfall of Oberyn was when he allowed his pride and Dornish emotional attributes get the best of him. He lost his head in battle, and it cost him his life.
It’s surprising that Ellaria Sand or Tyrion Lannister didn’t speak up and say anything to him when this started, to jog his mind back into the fight. He would have gotten his vengeance regardless, but he should have kept his head, than to have it crushed.
Their height may be different, but Oberyn Martell was overwhelming Gregor Clegane for almost all of the fight. (http://www.pixcelation.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/mountainandviper.png)

9. Daenerys Imprisons Her Dragons
Episode 10 - The Children - Daenerys Targaryen locks away the other dragons, Rhaegal and Viserion, in the dungeons of Mereen, because their brother Drogon, has been killing kids and live stock, and causing the farmers to lose money as he eats their animals.
Why punish the other dragons for what their brother did? Daenerys locks away both Viserion and Rhaegal in the dungeons of Mereen because their brother Drogon made some kid fried crispy. This is what her ancestors did to their dragons, which made the dragons sickly and die small and young.
Instead of punishing the other kids she should have placed Drogon in the dungeons as punishment and rewarded the others for well behavior. Daenerys needs a book on parenting, but it seems that all the good dragon parenting books burned with Valyria.
Drogon burns everything beneath him, even the shepherd’s kid. He likes his meat extra crispy. (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fHcGJCmmuSY/U3JV9dGZwQI/AAAAAAAAFMo/qK86mipxpi...)

SEASON 5
8. The Sansa Rape scene
Episode 6 - Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken - Sansa Stark is raped by Ramsey Snow/Bolton on their wedding night. In the books it was Jayne Poole who he raped as they pawned her off as a Stark.
Rape has seen its fair share in A Game of Thrones, so this scene shouldn’t have been too offensive for viewers, but it was. A lot of watchers seem to superimpose this reality onto the story and show, but it makes for great publicity. Sansa again shows that she can barely fend for herself as she allows to be married off to a raging lunatic yet again.
Only this time this lunatic is committed to marrying and consummating the marriage. Sansa inherited the same gullible mind as the rest of her family, and it is this character flaw that gets her into horrible situations.
We are spared from seeing the actual act, which the show does show some things in regards to sex, but instead we all hear the act, and watch as Theon/Reek reacts to the scene as most anyone would. Too bad he didn’t have the balls to stop Ramsey.

7. The Dead are Rising Again
Episode 8 - Hardhome - Jon Snow heads to the wildling village of Hardhome to convince the Wildlings to join the Night’s Watch in defeating the White Walkers. While there the army of the dead come and begin to slaughter everyone who can’t escape. Jon finds out that his sword of Valyrian steel can pierce and kill the Whites, and barely escapes himself. Fans are then treated to the awesome sight of just how formidable the army of the dead really are.
The scene at Hardhome was an amazing sight. When the Wildlings were killed the Night King rose them from their deaths and made them a part of his horrifying family of cold zombies.
It was unfortunate that Jon Snow couldn’t get there sooner, and that the Wildlings took so long to make a decision when they live in White Walker territory. That and the simple wall of tree logs seemed to not be enough to keep out a threat of the living dead.
Overall it didn’t seem too convincing with the set-up of the Wildling city, and there were some flaws not paid attention to by the showrunners.

6. The murder of Jon Snow by Traitors
Episode 10 - Mother’s Mercy - Jon Snow is attacked and stabbed by his brothers in the Night’s Watch. The worst part was when his trusted subordinate Olly gave him the finishing blow.
This was one of the most talked about scenes in the Game of Thrones history. Lord Commander Jon Snow was brutally murdered by his subordinates because he saw a threat that they didn’t and made a decision that they didn’t like. Instead of making it a debate or using political means to address the issue these guys took it so far as to kill the Lord Commander in cold blood.
Even if a lot of the Night’s Watch brothers didn’t like bringing the Wildlings past the Wall, most of them voted for Jon Snow as their Lord Commander, so how would killing him accomplish anything? The traitors should have foresaw that they were gambling their lives by this heinous act. In the end this just seemed to be convenient for the showrunners and George R.R.Martin to break Jon’s oath and take him off the Wall in a semi-creative way.

5. Cersei Baratheon/Lannister bares her body to All
Episode 10 - Mother’s Mercy - Cersei Baratheon/lLannister is made to do her walk of atonement for the Faith and the capital because of her incest and many sins committed.
Cersei Lannister is paraded through King’s Landing naked to atone for her many crimes which include incest. This display was entertaining that Cersei is a much hated villain in the series and yet all this did was make her even more violent and insane in the long run.
The High Sparrow seems to be an idiot savant in that he was able to prosecute her for her crimes but not to anticipate her true demeanor. Some fans were a bit taken aback with the nudity, vulgarity, and display of this scene, but it fit fairly well with the show and story.
In the end it was just shocking that Cersei even broke enough to go through with it.

SEASON 6
4. The Sand Snakes attack again
Episode 1 - The Red Woman - Trystane Martell is brutally murdered from being stabbed in the back of the head by Obara, one of his cousins and a sand snake. Ellaria Sand sends the Sand Snakes after poisoning his betrothed Mrycella Baratheon/Lannister with poison. Fans were upset given how the show runners completely dismissed the dorne storyline and its intricate plot.
First they poison Mrycella, then they outright kill the Prince of Dorne. The way that this scene was done was just a horrible one, but the showrunners Dan and Dave really ruined the whole Dorne storyline period. Why even ask poor Trystane who he wanted to kill him if you were going to stage a sneak attack?
Fans were not pleased at all with these poor plot choices in order to shove the Dornish story quickly into the t.v. series. There wasn’t much substance here, and it was a lackluster performance. A small fight would have been better, or another cowardly poisoning. This scene would have done well to have been thought out a bit more than to rush out something worthless like this instead.

3. The Waif Gets Her Wish
Episode 7 - The Broken Man - after months of an abusive relationship Arya Stark tries to flee the Faceless Men and head back to Westeros. the waif is then told by Jaqen H’ghar to end Arya’s life but not to let her suffer. Instead, the Waif brutally stabs Arya and leaves her for dead.
The Waif could hardly contain herself when Jaqan H’ghar gave her the green light to destroy the fan favorite Arya Stark for wanting to leave the Faceless Man. She was suppose to end Arya’s life without causing her pain, and yet the Waif stabbed Arya over and over with heated malice to bring her suffering.
The only problem was how Arya was just walking around like as if she didn’t have a care in the world. She was learning under assassins who can take any face and yet she didn’t seem a bit scared to show her face. The show should have been more realistic and had her more cautions, watching her back and sizing up everyone who comes into her contact. Allowing the Waif to come and stab her as the old woman was fairly cliche, and didn’t show too much creativity.

2. Blowing up the Great Sept
Episode 10 - The Winds Of Winter - the High Sparrow imprisons Loras Tryell, Queen Margaery Baratheon/Tryell, and the followers of the Faith in the Great Sept. then it all explodes in wildfire.
So it turns out that Cersei just lied about atoning for her sins after all. Fans could see this coming but this was set up fairly decently. The issue of this scene was when the idiot High Sparrow blocked people from leaving when they realized that something terribly wrong was happening. Instead of sending everyone to go and get Cersei by force, knowing that she was back in the Red Keep with her sworn soldiers, he sent a small handful of guys to get her, and they failed miserably.
There was no reason to keep the people in the Great Sept when chaos began to consume the people. Also, how there wasn’t anybody in the Great Sept who had a weapon to cut down the men barring the doors was also implausible, given that most people carry some kind of weapon in that world.
Overall it was made convenient to blow them all up, but it would have been more realistic to have the people out running as the Great Sept blew up, and more bodies flying everywhere.

1. Cersei’s Prophecy comes True
Episode 10 - The Winds Of Winter - King Tommen Baratheon/Lannister commits suicide over the loss of his wife Queen Margaery and the Faith as he watches the Great Sept burn.
It seems like Cersei was more worried about revenge than to care for her last and living child. Poor King Tommen Baratheon/Lannister needed his mother to step up and to help console him in his time of need, or else to actually care about his emotions in the whole situation.
She knowingly killed his Queen and lover, and isolated him from his people with her act of hatred. Cersei also didn’t take into account to have King Tommen watch, his windows locked, all pointy objects removed from around him, and something to keep his mind engaged while her plan was acted upon.
The show seems to have painted her as a cold-hearted woman at this point, and she seemed to not even flinch when she found that he committed suicide. This scene needed some work on it, unless this was how they wanted to portray Cersei, as another monster.

Game of Thrones has proven to be one of the most captivating series over the years, finding ways to grip the hearts of its viewers and never letting go. This list of 21 things that shouldn’t have happened is just a minor flaw in the overall genious of both George R. R. Martin and the showrunners Dan and Dave. Yes they could have done some things better, but overall they have still captivated fans all around the world into this wondrous yet appalling world known as Westeros.
