If you know anything about the world of Destiny 2, you are probably familiar with the big, bad enemies that beset humanity. The creepy emo Hive, the extremely overweight Cabal, the Pirates of the Caribbean (sorry, I mean Fallen), and the Marty McFly Vex. Terrifying adversaries, to be sure. But fear not; Guardians of the Light shall defend the City to its last with their incredibly powerful Heavy Weapons (aptly so named)!
But choosing the right Heavy Weapon for the job might be a daunting task, especially for a newly-rezzed kinderguardian. So, I present to you this guide: the ten best Destiny 2 Heavy Weapons for all of your alien-zapping needs.
10. Xenophage
How t o get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EGPjPkuE3k
Long revered as the toughest DPS option in the game, Xenophage is a mere shadow of what it once was. It’s still the perfect hybrid of add clear/DPS/major takedown, and for this reason it’s an all-rounder for Gambit and raids.
- Good for Gambit
- Good for Crucible
- Excellent for Major Takedown

9. Falling Guillotine
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9684JMKTr3I
Hands down, if you get a good roll on this sword, it’s the best legendary sword option in the game (unless you count Eager Edge swords for speedrunning, which I don’t). It’s another all-rounder like Xenophage, only it compromises on range for damage. Xur will occasionally sell this weapon, as will Banshee-44.
- Best Legendary Sword for DPS
- Can roll with Whirlwind Blade
- Easy to use

8. The Lament
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8sBxPRaddU
Whenever someone mentions “raw power” in Destiny 2, my mind immediately flits to the all-powerful Lament, a weapon capable of shattering a million metal vessels (look it up in the lore, pal). This weapon is top-tier as far as sword DPS is concerned, it looks cool, has a sweet backstory, and looks cool. Oh, did I mention that it looks cool?
- Looks cool
- Really high damage
- Barrier Champion piercing

7. Thunderlord
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S8mhP86meM
Hands down G.O.A.T. for clearing adds, made only better in Season of Plunder (because now it has an exotic catalyst). Some people want to tell you that this gun is good for melting Oryx, but I wouldn’t trust them. It’s a solid gun with intrinsic anti-overload, though.
- Best for Add Clear
- Intrinsic Anti-Overload
- Good for boss DPS in a pinch

6. Sleeper Simulant
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ4qb3TrwHc
The bedrock of good DPS. Short of Taipan, Stormchaser, Reed’s Regret, and Izanagi’s Burden + Auto-Loading Rockets, this is the best for damage per second that you can normally manage. While not the best option ever, it’s a decent pick that (I think) you can get away with as an option for DPS in a raid.
- The original “have or kick” weapon in D2
- Very reliable
- Easier to charge catalyst than most Linear Fusions

5. Palmyra-B
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiGuVlt99jo
Widely regarded as the best legendary rocket launcher in the game, the Palmyra’s god roll is Auto-Loading Holster/Explosive Light. It’s easily accessible as a world drop OR you can get the pattern easily by completing the “Reshaping the Enigma” quest in the Witch Queen campaign, even for F2P players.
- Extremely easy to get
- Free weapon pattern
- You probably have one or two decent ones lying about

4. Reed’s Regret
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXT-7j74gXY
In the quadrinity of good LFRs, Reed’s is going to be lowest on the list. It can roll the juicy Triple Tap/Firing Line you’ve all been waiting for, but it’s not craftable and Trials of Osiris is hard-farmed (that is, if you’re enough of a PvE dusche to want a decent roll).
- Available via focused engrams
- Adept version available
- Decent selection of perks

3. Stormchaser
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jK6GnoV21jY
Don’t forsake Stormchaser just because it’s not craftable! I’m actually saddened at the heights to which this gun has fallen. On its base, it’s a harder-hitting weapon per shot than any other linear fusion, but it’s devoid of those awesome ammo-generating perks like Fourth Time’s the Charm and Triple tap.
- Completely farmable
- All killer, no filler with perks
- Only Aggressive Frame Linear Fusion in the game

2. Cataclysmic
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7UHRuxPWHw
The Bait and Switch/Fourth Time’s the Charm is still the best DPS option out there, but only if you can manage the complicated gameplay loop. It’s also craftable, so if you want to get your hands on a good Cataclysmic, you better get grinding.
- Adept version available
- Craftable
- Best DPS option for the committed
Cataclysmic full details: https://www.light.gg/db/items/999767358/cataclysmic/
1. Taipan-4fr
How to get it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZifyEjlPz4
The Taipan is as good as Reed’s Regret, only made craftable and far easier to get. This gun is extremely popular, in fact, one might say TOO popular. It’s available for F2P players, so Sleeper Simulant is no longer a (good) excuse for a low DPS value. It even has the Veist Origin Trait like Reed’s does, complete with enhanced Triple Tap/Firing Line. A must have gun for sure.
- Super easy to get
- Craftable
- Incredibly consistent
