Rogues are probably one of the most fun classes to play in D&D, specifically when it comes to dealing damage. It just wouldn't be right not to take advantage of one of D&D's more broken classes, so why not make your Rogue even more overpowered with a collection of weapons that will make them even more lethal (and further aggravate your DM's never-ending headache)?
10. Dagger of Venom
Poison your enemies with a vengeance
Probably a weapon that is most typically associated with a Rogue, the Dagger of Venom is a fun addition to your character’s arsenal of weaponry, giving you the option of adding extensive poison damage to your attack. Your Rouge won’t want to go anywhere without it.
Why Dagger of Venom is great on Rogue
- Rouge’s proficiency with simple weapons, along with the bonus (+1) the dagger gives to its wielder on attack and damage rolls can lead to this being one of the more lethal weapons in your arsenal.
- You can deal an extra 2d10 poison damage against a creature once per day, which is extremely helpful, especially if you are trying to assassinate a target. An unfortunate downside to the blade is that many creatures have a resistance to poison damage.
How to get Dagger of Venom:
The dagger is easily craftable given its simple nature. If you are willing to part with the coin, you could probably purchase it. It can also, in some cases, be offered as a gift for completing a task.

9. Dragontooth Dagger
Kill your enemies with acid
A weapon forged from the tooth of a slain dragon is not only fashionable for your Rogue, but also a way to show off their trophy (specifically if they were the ones to kill the dragon). The extra damage they are able to deal because of the origins of the blade is just a bonus.
Why Dragontooth Dagger is great on Rogue
- You gain a bonus (+1) to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon, as well as an extra 1d6 acid damage against your target. Another very lethal weapon, especially when your Rogues proficiency bonus comes into the mix.
- When fighting against the Cult of Dragons the bonus increases (+2) as does the damage (2d6)
How to get Dragontooth Dagger:
You may find the dagger on the body of a dragon cultist that you’ve looted. Always loot your enemies' bodies, you never know what you might find on one of them.

8. Sword of Wounding
Kill your enemies with damage that lingers after your attack
A sword that can deal damage even after you’re finished using it. No Rogue in their right mind would turn down such a weapon.
Why Sword of Wounding is great on Rogue
- Targets attacked with this weapon are unable to regain hit points by any means until after a long/short rest.
- When a target is hit at the start of each turn it takes necrotic damage (1d4 for each time you hit it). If the target is unsuccessful on saving throws they will continue to take damage until they die.
How to get Sword of Wounding:
Rogues will typically be gifted this sword by a mentor or another assassin. They could also have a sword they commonly use imbued with poisons that have been specifically crafted to worsen the wounds of a target.

7. Flame Tongue
FIRE!!!
You speak a command to a sword and suddenly it ignites, illuminating the path for your allies and alighting fear in the hearts of your enemies. Using it as an element of surprise and a way to keep the enemies distracted while your allies forge ahead with whatever plan they might have concocted, may be one of the best and most fun uses for it.
Why Flame Tongue is great on Rogue
- You get to deal extra fire damage (2d6) to the target as well as the damage the weapon type normally deals.
- The flames from the blade light up the area in front of you with bright life for 40 feet and dim light for an additional 40 feet.
How to get Flame Tongue:
Your Rogue should be able to find such a weapon at an exotic merchant's shop or have it crafted by a very skilled smith. However, if they have a favorite sword and would prefer to just give it a boost using a flammable property, that would be able to turn their sword into a Flame Tongue.

6. Scimitar of Speed
Double attack enemies with the help of additional speed to your attacks
Fighting against a rogue is generally a death sentence for anyone. Fighting a rogue with a scimitar of speed is just asking to be stabbed into non-existence. A scimitar of speed is a great weapon for anyone hoping to deal extensive amounts of damage. It allows a rogue the speed to be impossibly lethal.
Why Scimitar of Speed is great on Rogue
- You gain a bonus (+2) to attack and damage rolls when attacking with this weapon.
- As a bonus action, you can attack again, allowing you to deal even more damage against your enemies, killing them faster.
How to get Scimitar of Speed:
A rouge searching for a scimitar like this may have to do one of two things. They could either go looking for an exotic merchant known to hold such weapons or they could have it crafted by a smith using ancient methods.

5. Sun Blade
Destroy enemies with the power of the sun
It’s basically the lightsaber of the D&D world, but without a button that you can accidentally press while staring down the hilt. With the amount of holy light coming from the blade, your Rogue will be like an angel of death sent to slaughter the enemies of the gods.
Why Sun Blade is great on Rogue
- Their proficiency with long- and shortswords allows them proficiency with this weapon.
- A bonus (+2) to attack and damage rolls is gained and the damage deal becomes radiant instead of slashing.
- If the target is undead extra radiant damage (1d8) is dealt.
How to get Sun Blade:
A Sun Blade is most often/usually found in areas that are home to/populated by certain religious groups, particularly those associated with the slaughter of the undead.

4. Sword of Sharpness
Take off your enemies limbs as a tactical advantage or just for fun
No one’s limbs are safe when this sword is in the hands of a Rogue. In a blink (especially if your dice are being kind to you), an army can become very quickly de-armed. The trail of limbs left behind your party may serve as an excellent warning to anyone that might be tailing your party.
Why Sword of Sharpness is great on Rogue
- When you roll a 20 to attack the target takes an extra 14 slashing damage.
- If you roll a second 20 (on the same attack) you are able to lop off one of the limbs (or a portion of its body if it doesn’t have any limbs) of your target.
How to get Sword of Sharpness:
Attempting to forge such a weapon would require the skills of a legendary blacksmith and the use of an ancient, well-polished method of forging. Your Rogue could also go looking for a rumored legendary swordsman that was once associated with such a weapon and attempt to win over the blade.

3. Sword of Life Stealing
Give yourself life while stealing life from an enemy
What better weapon for a Rogue than one that gives them life while they take the life of another? With the death rate of a town suddenly spiking in an area when a Rogue arrives, they could become immortal. What’s a few lives lost along the way?
Why Sword of Life Stealing is great on Rogue
- If a 20 is rolled on an attack roll, not only is extra necrotic damage (10) dealt (unless the target is undead or a construct), but you also gain temporary hit points (10).
How to get Sword of Life Stealing:
Finding a merchant who sells exotic goods would probably be your best bet for trying to find this weapon. It could also be gifted to your Rogue by a fellow assassin (if you decide to play one) for completing a more difficult task.

2. Luck Blade
Deal damage and make a wish
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to have a genie while in D&D, here’s your chance. While the sword might not be able to deal a lot of damage, the addition of being able to cast Wish is what makes this sword so overpowered. Use your wishes wisely and make sure to be specific.
Why Luck Blade is great on Rogue
- A bonus (+1) to attack and damage rolls when used and to saving throws when the sword is on your person.
- Luck - if you are unsatisfied with a roll you have the option to reroll, but the ability can’t be used again until the next dawn, and you have to use what you roll.
- Wish - You can use an action to use one of the sword's charges (1d4 - 1) and cast Wish, but this ability can only be used once per day and is lost if the sword no longer has charges.
How to get Luck Blade:
A weapon that may only be attained if your Rogue is blessed with a visit from Lady Luck herself. If you’re feeling particularly brave and wish to test fate, you could attempt to nab the blade from someone already holding the weapon.

1. Vorpal Sword
Crit against enemies and lop off heads for fun
The best weapon you could ever get for your rogue. With the ability to lop off heads and completely ignore resistance to slashing damage, your rogue would be insane to turn down such a lethal weapon. It one-hit kills a creature with a critical hit or deals extensive amounts of damage. Either way, no creature is surviving your blade.
Why Vorpal Sword is great on Rogue
- A bonus (+3) to attack and damage rolls is gained.
- The sword ignores a target’s resistance to slashing damage.
- If a 20 is rolled on an attack, you cut off a creature’s head and it dies. However, if a creature is immune to this effect/slashing damage, doesn’t need/have a head, has a legendary action, or has a head that is too big to be cut off it takes extra slashing damage (6d8) instead.
How to get Vorpal Sword:
This is a weapon that can only be attained after an extraordinarily difficult task has been completed. It can either be gifted to your Rogue by the gods or by a dark entity congratulating you for completing a malevolent task.
