“All of Tamriel’s dead are a resource for you to manipulate and exploit, as nothing is forbidden for those who seek to master the dark arts. The Necromancer Class brings a unique style of play to The Elder Scrolls Online, allowing you to summon the undead and make use of corpses to overwhelm your enemies and empower your attacks.” - The Elder Scrolls Online
Here are the top 10 best, and most fun Necromancer builds. You’ll notice that there aren’t any healing builds in this list, that’s because the way I see it, Necromancers are already healers with really horrible timing. Although with one joke of many aside, this list is comprised of both PVE and PVP damage builds that’ll let you tackle content both in a group and alone.
10. Bloodrush Necromancer
Powerful Stamina Necromancer Build - Alcast
Bloodrush is an easy-to-maintain Stamina build with fantastic burst damage. As with a select few Alcast builds, they have great skills and gear setups, but little in the way of rotation, however, once you’ve given the skills explanation a once (twice, maybe thrice) over, it all starts to come together (sort of). There are multiple gear options for those who are still taking their first steps into the game, and resources are easy to maintain granted that you keep up your heavy attacks.
What this build is good for:
- PVP due to the Camouflaged Hunter skill
- Single target damage
- Increased regeneration and constant heals
- Adaptable skills due to Magicka and Stamina points being equally distributed
Build Details:
- 5-2 gear Setup: 5 Heavy pieces and 2 Medium pieces
- Two-handed/ Dual Wield
- Strong single target damage
- Burst damage
- High Mitigation and Healing
- Two-handed weapon bar for offense
- Dual-Wield weapon bar for defense and healing

9. Claws Werewolf Necromancer
Powerful Werewolf Build - Alcast
Claws is an extremely fun Necromancer build, when you’ve slotted your two ultimate abilities, you get to decide if you’d like to transform into a Werewolf or summon a giant Colossus which pretty much makes you the coolest person in your group. This build focuses on long-range Disease Damage abilities and Werewolf melee damage, making it highly versatile in combat. The downfall of this build is that most Necromancer Class passives won’t be up whilst in Werewolf form, which is a real bummer and the reason for this build not being higher on the list.
What this build is good for:
- Optimized for Dungeons and Trials
- High physical damage
- Disease damage to all nearby enemies
- Resource regeneration
- Good survivability
Build Details:
- Medium Armor
- Dual-Wield, Bow, Sharp Claws
- High damage
- High Mitigation and Healing
- Dual-Wield weapon bar for offense
- Bow weapon bar for resource recovery and offense

8. Draugr Kin
Magicka Necromancer Solo PVE ONE BAR Build - Hack The Minotaur
This is undeniably one of the most fun solo builds for Necromancers. A highly controversial approach to ESO, yet an incredibly relaxing experience. Using this one bar build allows the player to focus on the storyline and explore the world that is often overlooked when we’re watching our DPS. Along with being a fun and unique approach, the build maintains the feel of a classic Necromancer with the unique class skills equipped.
What this build is good for:

Optimized for maximum damage with both single-target and AoE, this Two-Handed setup benefits mainly from Necromancer passives and skills. The Colossus Necromancer build is a fantastic Tank for group content. Necromancers have an extremely strong Bone Tyrant skill line that pairs very well with the numerous debuffs that you have available to you. 4. Reaper Necromancer
Powerful Stamina Necromancer Build for ESO - Alcast
The Reaper Necromancer build utilizes some of the many Stamina abilities available to the class that allows for significant single-target and AoE damage. The build uses both dual-wield weapons and a bow, although both bars allow for some distance when needed. The skills used in this Stamina Necromancer build are focused on maximizing your damage done in a group so don’t go wandering off alone.

3. Curse Necromancer
Powerful Magicka Necromancer Build for ESO - Alcast
Curse Necromancer is a build optimized for group content and is particularly useful in higher-level dungeons and trials. This Magicka build uses a Fire Staff on both front and back bars for single-target and AoE damage, with AoE being the slightly better focus. The reason for this being a poor solo build is its lack of sufficient resource recovery when unassisted in a group. Despite this factor, the build is still very effective provided it is used in the correct situations and allows for a great amount of damage.
What this build is good for:
- Great AoE damage
- Good single-target damage
- Fantastic ranged damage
- Good survivability provided your Magicka shield is maintained
- Best suited to Trials, Dungeons, and Arenas
- Group build
Build Details:
- Group build
- Light armor
- Most effective with AoE damage
- Attribute points focused solely on Magicka
- Support skills
- Double Destruction Staff setup
- Easily maintained survivability

2. 103.2K DPS Magicka Necromancer
PvE Magicka Necromancer - Skinny Cheeks
Skinny Cheeks is one of my most referenced build creators, and this particular Magicka Necromancer build is amongst my favorites. This build was in collaboration with LingRanLi and provides two rotations to play around with both a dynamic rotation and a more static one. I’ve found Ling’s 103.2k DPS set up to be a great deal of fun, making use of dual-wield on the front bar, and an Inferno Staff on the back. Although his rotation is longer and a little harder to master, it’s so worth the effort.
What this build is good for:
- Great group build to show off your damage
- Great solo build
- Insane single target damage
- Next level AoE damage
- Brilliant resource sustainability
- Players that are wanting to challenge themselves with a more complex rotation
Build Details:
- Light armor
- Dual wield on front weapon bar
- Inferno staff on back weapon bar
- Attribute points focused solely on Magicka
- Infinite resource sustainability with correct rotation
- Best suited to group content
- Great solo build
