Struggling to carry games as a support player? This comprehensive Top 10 League of Legends best support to carry list, will help you climb the ranked ladder.
You don’t need to switch roles to be impactful. Nor do you need to sit back, pray and toss a coin that you will get carried by teammates. You can take the game into your own hands, being the 1 v 9 carry even as a support. All you need is the correct champion, strategy, playstyle and execution.
With this comprehensive list you will leave the common limiting belief between most League players that supports can't carry as hard as mid laners or junglers. Stats, case-studies and pros prove otherwise, but that's an article for another day. Now we will go through the updated league patch 12.4’s best supports to play, only if you want freelo…
10. Pyke
The Bloodharbor ripper assassin Pyke
Pyke doesn't fit into the traditional support category. Because he's an assassin, not a typical squishy enchanter or tank engage support. This is why he is still so popular in the midlane, despite all the nerfs Riot has been dishing out to Pyke mid. The fact that Pyke can be so strong in the midlane should show you how strong his carry potential is. But we aren’t here to talk about midlane Pyke, we’re here to talk about him in the support role…
Landing a single combo oneshots any squishy - can you imagine a support doing that? Well, you can now. You shouldn't sit back and play Pyke like any enchanter. Or you'll doom yourself to be outscalled and useless in the later stages of the game. You should be proactive, keeping a high tempo and applying pressure throughout the map.
Become the enemy's literal nightmare. Using the move speed in your kit go mess with the other enemies using your camouflage ability. Your job as an assassin is to be unpredictable.
Pyke is a good response pick to this enchanter support meta, as he counters a lot of the most successful picks in the patch.
Pyke also has a high learning curve – knowing your limits is essential. Also, it is very frustrating when you miss skillshots and ultimate by just a centimeter. But once you get the handle on this champion you won't ever play anything else – why do you think he has so many onetricks?
The reason he isn't higher on the list is because Pyke is a onetrick champion. You need to play him well or else you’ll be hard punished. And for the current 12.4 patch, assassins aren't the best due to the times games are reaching. Enchanters are more favored because of this. So, you can guess what type of champions are next on the list…
What makes Pyke a great support carry:
- 1v9 potential due to raw damage numbers on Pyke.
- Can gank his own lane - only few champions can do this.
- High skill, high reward champion.
Pyke guide
9. Leona
The empress Leona is a staple support pick
Her kit brings an annoying amount of tankiness and CC to shutdown any enemy carries – tilting them in the process.
Despite this Leona isn’t in the best of states, even as the meta shifts against her the kit she has is too useful for her not to be mentioned on this list. Leona is an aggressive pick as she's a melee support champion.
If you are duo with an adc and you have an aggressive playstyle, Leona is the best champion to hard stomp and snowball out of control with.
She is the best tank support, but isn’t the best support overall due to the meta. It's a hyper carry adc meta, so playing enchanters is a better way to contribute to your team. If your team needs peel and engage, Leona is your pick to stomp on all the meta abusing enchanter players.
What makes Leona a great support carry:
- Useful kit - tankiness and Strong CC
- Great pick potential (snowballing is easy with her)
- Simple kit
- Snowball potential (with aggressive duo)

8. Lux
Who'd imagine Lux making it as the top supports this season...
Lux the midlane burst mage makes her way down to support and gives herself a name. Not only as a niche midlane support pick, but one of the strongest picks contesting with the top supports on our list.
When season 12 rolled around Lux got a small buff and the season itself was perfect for her, including itemization making her sleeper op. More people haven’t realized the full strength of Lux support because of the way people tend to play her (spamming Q ability)
A small tip I can give is to stop randomly throwing your Light Binding (Q ability), because when it’s down you open a window to where you will be abused. You should hold onto it and prioritize throwing your Lucent Singularity (E ability) more, slowing the target also making it easier to hit the Light Binding.
Not only are the items perfect for Lux in the new season but the matchups are good for her too. She counters all the other mage supports and if you're playing in the lower ranks - you’ll encounter them often. As supports tend to have less trust in their adc’s to carry in the lower ranks.
You have endless amounts of options with Lux, from changing ability max order to different build paths. An added benefit is that she’s the perfect flex pick, which has some importance in champion select. Go and abuse it before Lux inevitably gets nerfed.
Why Lux is a great support carry:- Simple kit.
- Lots of burst.
- Amazing AOE
- Versatile build/runes
- Potential to steal dragon/baron - how many times have you seen a lux ultimate steal a game winning nash?

7. Zyra
Zyra the manipulator of plants can ignite a path of victory for herself
If you're not bending to the will of the meta and locking in an enchanter just yet, then Zyra’s your girl! She’s an Ap mage, 1v9 hyper carry style support. Her kit allows her to zone out an entire back line in group teamfights. Multiple viable playstyles - almost everything works with her.
On top of all the pros, Zyra is an easy champion to pilot. What is there not to love about her? She also has a versatile build path and only needs 1 item to start ramping up in the damage compartment.
With all these benefits we need to keep in mind that she's still a squishy champion with no escapes. So positioning is important and if she falls behind her DPS falls tremendously.
What makes Zyra a great support carry:- High dps
- Can solo & help tank Dragon, Herald & Baron
- Oneshot potential
- Multiple playstyles - safe and agro.
6. Sona
Sona comes to the rift to kick off her shows, mesmerizing her teammates with high-energy Kinetic beats, and damaging the enemy with hard-hitting Concussive rhythms
Sona is very well-rounded, as she offers a little bit of everything to her team from the damage, shields, movespeed, hard engage, disengage and more. Her numbers alone scale better than anyone else's.
If there was one pick you took from this list, I’d suggest you look into Sona. She is an easy champion to pick up with everything a support needs, rounding off most team compositions.
While Sona is all rounded she struggles in the early stages of the game with her mana issues and tankiness. Her skills aren't out of this world either until she gets her first or second item. It won't be too hard for the enemy to catch her off and oneshot her. Which is why positioning and knowledge of cooldowns of spells and skills is an essential skill you must master.
But once you understand Sona’s limits and don't go too crazy early, what she offers to the team is invaluable.
What makes Sona a great support carry:- Strong poke
- Good AoE buffs
- Good mobility
- Strong Ultimate
5. Soraka
Soraka is the medic of League of legends, pumping life straight into the team
We’re in the era of league when every champion can do an insane amount of damage, and the poor adc is subjected as the number 1 priority most of the time. The Soraka pick makes sure that the adc is protected, while pumping broken amounts of health into the team.
Soraka is an easy to pilot champion giving the carries multiple health bars worth of health, being a complete nuisance to face. This is the reason she is sometimes focused by the enemies that know her strength (hopefully your enemy hasn't read this part!)
Soraka however is still a squishy enchanter support no matter how broken her heals may be. She isn’t a frontline, and hasn’t got a lot of damage outside of the early laning phase. So, if your team fills in for Soraka’s weaknesses combined with good positioning she becomes an insane champion!
By locking in this broken healer, she now becomes the center of attention. Taking away attention from the teammates she’s protecting. Knowing the pressure you bring is important, but don't get carried away because getting picked off for free does nothing for your team.
What makes Soraka a great support carry:- Order of the Banana Soraka (lol)
- Loads of healing
- Easy to play
- Can be played aggressive in laning phase
- Global healing Ultimate “Wish”!
4. Janna
Janna the queen of peel and shields thriving this season since her mini rework that came into effect a few patches ago. She is perfect in playmaking, disengaging, healing and providing constant buffs and shields to her teammates.
Champion select is an important part of the game that you should put more emphasis on. If you see your whole team counterpicked and the enemy outscales you in every way for example, that game should be an easy dodge. Don't be selfish, as MMR is more important than losing 3lp.
On this note what makes Janna good is that she's blind pickable - 1st pick her to save a teammate getting counter picked. She’s risk-free almost as she can punish easy matchups and survive with ease in the poor ones. On top of all this she’s malleable being able to work with the best adc’s of the game.
They recently nerfed Janna’s cheese smite top strategy (stop playing her top you freaks) but despite that she is still great in the support role.
What makes Janna a great support carry:
- Low skill floor/easy to pick up.
- Easy playmaking & disengages.
- Blind pickable.
- Scales very well.
3. Senna
Senna the hybrid hyper carry style champion
The dark soul Senna, freed from Thresh's lantern onto the rift to only create chaos. Senna has a fun and appealing playstyle when it comes down to the support role, even making the most dedicated adc players want to give the support role a spin. Senna is a marksman/enchanter hybrid designed in a way for her to be versatile into building both damage, support or a fine blend of both.
Whether you decide to go support or damage on her - the heals and utility she provides won't ever change. Her Piercing Darkness (Q) remains helpful no matter what, not to mention her camouflage ability that can be used on an entire team to get some cheeky ganks or flanks off.
Senna is a mechanically difficult champion with a completely different playstyle to other supports. I would recommend you to play her in normals first. The difference is light and day between a bad Senna and a decent one.
But once you get used to Senna’s mana problems and get a habit of good positioning, you’ll dominate the game bringing global presence especially with your ultimate ability Dawning Shadow.
Hopefully Riot stops touching Senna as she is currently in her element and is performing how riot envisioned - to be more viable as a support than an adc.
Tip: Starving Senna is the best way to play her - slap a tank in front of her and let them farm. All you have to do is farm the free souls.
What makes Senna a great carry support:- Scales infinitely each second the game progresses.
- Global AOE shield/damage
- Team camouflage
- Versatile build/runes
2. Lulu
The Witch Lulu
Lulu has been my personal ban for years, her no-skill-shot polymorph would tilt anyone. Especially in late game fights when she can turn carries into little rabbits many times in one teamfight… wouldn’t anyone get tilted?
On top of how infuriating she is to play against, she's perfect in the current meta and works well with everyone. Working especially well with hyper scaling champs like Kog’maw, Vayne, Jinx, Twitch and others.
Lulu is extremely versatile and has many ways to be played. The utility she brings helps her in a plethora of ways. She has 2 sides to her abilities, one side buffing her teammates and the other crippling the enemies. This makes Lulu an aggressive and safe pick all at the same time. She’s able to dish out a ton of damage while also having the option to sit back, heal and shield the carries on her team.
While it does sound like she has everything in 1 kit, her downsides are that she’s immobile and prone to CC. She’s also a little more reliant on her teammates compared to other champions on the list - which made her miss the number Uno spot barely.
What makes Lulu a great support carry?- Versatile playstyle.
- Tilting abilities - enemies deserve it for not banning her!
- Aggressive early laning phase while also scaling extremely well.
1. Blitzcrank
Did Blitzcrank just grab the number one spot?
“One hook to rule them all” – is a quote by Blitzcrank that really suits him because it often takes 1 hook to win lane or shift the tempo completely in a game. In the wise words of Tyler1 “Blitzcrank is the hardest scaling champion in the game because you can miss 99 hooks but if you hit your 100th hook in the late game you’ve won the game”
The nerf Blitzcrank received this patch won’t mitigate his carry potential at all - as his job is simply to hook (unless they nerf his hook!).
Blitzcrank’s strongest ability is also his downfall as it makes him super reliant on the ability. If you miss an important hook in lane, although generally from a safe distance - a good enemy could hard punish a poor Blitzcrank play.
It’s also fairly easy to sidestep the Rocket Grab unless you’re using iBlitzcrank (pay to win skin) which makes hooks faster and harder to see!
Blitzcrank is ranked the highest because he’s a great response pick to this patch, while also being able to grab the game and take control with his bare hands!
What makes Blitzcrank a great support carry:- Strong early game
- Great response to meta
- Best pick potential in the game
- High snowball potential & can pull of successful easy roams
