The Oni, a monstrous entity fueled by an insatiable bloodlust, was introduced in the Cursed Legacy Chapter of December 2019. The Oni unleashed a reign of chaos upon the unsuspecting Survivors, bringing a new level of brutality and strategic depth to the game's intricate gameplay. Here are some builds that raise the Oni’s signature power, Yamaoka's Wrath, to another level.
5. Beginner Oni Build
The Oni comes with three teachable perks:
Zanshin Tactics: The Auras of Breakable Walls, Pallets, and Windows are revealed to you within 24/28/32 meters.
Blood Echo: When hooking a Survivor, all other Injured Survivors suffer from the Haemorrhage and Exhausted Status Effects for 45 seconds. Blood Echo can only be triggered once every 80/70/60 seconds.
Nemesis: Any Survivor who blinds you or stuns you using a Pallet or a Locker becomes the Obsession. Anytime your Obsession switches to another Survivor by any means, that Survivor then suffers from the Oblivious Status Effect for 40/50/60 seconds and their Aura is revealed to you for 4 seconds.
For this build we will use:
- Sloppy Butcher
- Blood Echo
- Spies from the Shadows
- Fearmonger
Sloppy Butcher is a universal perk. When you injure a survivor with a basic attack, that survivor suffers from the hemorrhage and mangled status effect. These effects increase bleeding and slow healing speed. It additionally regresses and heals progress passively. Spies from the Shadows is another universal perk. Whenever you are within 20/28/36 meters of a Crow that was startled by a nearby Survivor, you are alerted with a Loud Noise Notification. Spies from the Shadows has a cool-down of 5 seconds between alerts.
Finally, Fearmonger gives All Survivors repairing a Generator suffer from the following afflictions: Incurs the Blindness and Exhausted Status Effects for the duration of the Repair action. If a Survivor was already suffering from Exhaustion prior to Mindbreaker affecting them, the Status Effect's timer will be paused and not recover for the duration of the Repair action. Both Status Effects linger for another 3/4/5 seconds after a Survivor stops repairing.
This build excels at:
- Applying constant pressure to Survivors and making them waste time. Sloppy Butcher and Fearmonger make it difficult for Survivors to heal and repair generators, respectively.
- Tracking Survivors and finding them quickly. Blood Echo and Spies from the Shadows provide Oni with information about Survivors' locations.
- Punishing Survivors who try to blind or stun Oni. Nemesis makes the Obsession suffer from the Oblivious Status Effect if they blind or stun Oni, making them easier to find and punish.
4. Fastest Oni Build
This build includes:
- Play with your Food
- Hex: Devour Hope
- Hex: No One Escapes Death
- Shadowborn
Play with your Food is a teachable perk from The Shape. Each time you chase your Obsession and let them escape, Play with Your Food receives 1 Token, up to a maximum of 3 Tokens: Each Token applies a stack-able 3/4/5 % Haste Status Effect, up to a maximum of 9/12/15 %. Performing Basic Attacks, or Special Attacks that can damage Survivors, consumes 1 Token. Hex: Devour Hope is a teachable perk from The Hag. Each time a Survivor is rescued from a Hook while you are at least 24 meters away, Hex: Devour Hope receives 1 Token, up to a maximum of 5 Tokens: 2 Tokens: 10 seconds after hooking a Survivor, gain a 3/4/5 % Haste Status Effect for the next 10 seconds. 3 Tokens: all Survivors suffer from a permanent Exposed Status Effect. 5 Tokens: grants the ability to kill all Survivors by your own hand.
Hex: No One Escapes Death is a universal perk. Once the Exit Gates are powered, if there is still a Dull Totem remaining on the Map, Hex: No One Escapes Death activates and lights it: Increases your Movement speed by 2/3/4 %. Survivors suffer from a permanent Exposed Status Effect. Shadowborn is a teachable perk from The Wraith. It Increases your field of view by 9/12/15 degrees.
To make this build more efficient, you can equip two specific addons to the Oni:
- Akito’s Crutch: Increases The Oni's Movement speed during a Demon Dash by +1.0 m/s.
- Kanai-Anzen Talisman: Increases The Oni's Movement speed during a Demon Dash by +0.64 m/s
This build excels at:
- Chasing down Survivors quickly and efficiently. The combination of Play with Your Food, Hex: Devour Hope, Hex: No One Escapes Death, and Shadowborn gives Oni a significant speed boost, making it difficult for Survivors to escape him.
- Pressuring Survivors and getting them injured or killed. The Exposed Status Effect inflicted by Hex: No One Escapes Death makes it much easier for Oni to down Survivors.
- Securing kills, even if Survivors manage to power the Exit Gates. Hex: No One Escapes Death ensures that Oni has a chance to kill all Survivors, even if they manage to open the gates.
3. Aura Build
This build includes:
- Lethal pursuer
- Nowhere to Hide
- Surge
- Barbeque and Chili
Lethal Pursuer is a perk from The Nemesis. At the start of the match, the auras of all survivors are revealed to you for 7/8/9 seconds. Additionally, this perk extends the duration of a Survivor's Aura being revealed to you by +2 seconds. Nowhere to hide is a teachable perk from The Knight. After damaging a generator, the auras of all survivors within 24 meters of our location are revealed for 3/4/5 seconds.
Surge is a perk that instantly regresses affected Generators within 32 meters of your location by 6/7/8 % when you put a survivor in the dying state with a basic attack. This will help you manage gen progression. Barbeque and Chili is a perk from The Cannibal. After hooking a Survivor, all Survivors who are at least 60/50/40 meters away from that Hook have their Aura revealed to you for 5 seconds.
The goal with this build is to reveal survivors locations either after hooking a survivor or kicking a gen. Knowing their locations will let you activate Yamaoka's Wrath and quickly rotate. This build is great for aggressive players.
This build excels at:
- Quickly locating Survivors and applying pressure. By using Lethal Pursuer, Nowhere to Hide, and Barbeque and Chili, you can quickly identify the locations of Survivors and apply pressure to them.
- Maintaining map control and preventing Survivors from repairing Generators. By using Surge, you can regress Generators that Survivors are working on, slowing down their progress and maintaining map control.
- Playing aggressively and overwhelming Survivors. This build is best suited for aggressive players who want to constantly pressure Survivors and prevent them from escaping.
2. Scream Build
This build includes:
- Hex: Face The Darkness
- Ultimate Weapon
- Alien Instinct
- Infectious Fright
Hex: Face the Darkness is a teachable perk from The Knight. Once you injure a Survivor by any means, if there is still a Dull Totem remaining on the Map, Hex: Face the Darkness activates and lights it, cursing that Survivor: All other Survivors will scream every 35/30/25 seconds if they are outside of the Killer's Terror Radius, revealing their Auras for 2 seconds each time. Ultimate Weapon is a teachable perk from The Xenomorph. Whenever you open a Locker, Ultimate Weapon activates for 30 seconds: Survivors entering your Terror Radius scream and reveal their location to you. Those Survivors suffer from the Blindness Status Effect for 30 seconds.
Alien Instinct is a perk from The Xenomorph. After you hook a survivor, you see the aura of the farthest injured survivor for 5 seconds. Additionally, that survivor suffers from the oblivious status effect for 20 seconds. Our last perk for this build is Infectious Fright from The Plague. When downing a survivor, all other survivors in our terror radius scream; revealing their location.
The goal with this build is to create chaos and confusion with the survivors' screams. This will also help you be able to locate them and set up opportunities for multiple downs.
This build excels at:
- Creating chaos and confusion among Survivors. By using Hex: Face the Darkness, Ultimate Weapon, Alien Instinct, and Infectious Fright, you can constantly trigger Survivor screams, revealing their locations and disrupting their actions.
- Pressuring Survivors from multiple angles. The constant stream of Survivor screams will make it difficult for Survivors to focus on objectives or escape chases.
- Taking advantage of Survivors' mistakes. By using Alien Instinct, you can quickly locate the farthest injured Survivor after hooking another Survivor, allowing you to capitalize on their vulnerability.
1. Overall Efficiency
This Build includes:
- Discordance
- No Way Out
- Deadlock
- Tinkerer
Discordance is a teachable perk from The Legion. Any Generator within a range of 64/96/128 meters that is being repaired by 2 or more Survivors is marked by a yellow Aura When the Generator is first highlighted, Discordance triggers a Loud Noise Notification on the Generator. After the Generator is no longer within range or is being repaired by just 1 Survivor, the highlighted Aura will linger for another 4 seconds. No Way Out is a perk from The Trickster. Each time you hook a survivor for the first time; you gain a token. When the exit gates are powered, the switches will be blocked for a total of 12 seconds plus an additional 6/9/12 seconds for each token. A maximum of 36/48/60 seconds. While this also helps slow the endgame down. This is especially useful for the Trapper, since he can set traps at/around the exit gates.
Following this, we have Deadlock. This is a perk from The Cenobite. When a generator is completed, Deadlock activates and blocks the next gen that is closest to completion for a total of 20/25/30 seconds. Finally, we have Tinkerer. This is a perk from The Hillbilly. Whenever a Generator is repaired to 70 %, you benefit from the following effects: Triggers a Loud Noise Notification for that Generator, revealing its location. Grants the Undetectable Status Effect for the next 12/14/16 seconds.
The goal of this build is to prevent Survivors from escaping the Trial by delaying generator repair progress and blocking the Exit Gates.
This build excels at:
- Slowing down generator repair progress. Discordance and Tinkerer both provide information about Generators being repaired, allowing you to prioritize them and interrupt Survivors' progress.
- Controlling the endgame. No Way Out and Deadlock both prevent Survivors from opening the Exit Gates quickly, giving you more time to apply pressure and secure kills.
- Pressuring Survivors and forcing them into mistakes. By constantly disrupting Survivors' attempts to repair Generators and escape, you can force them into making errors that you can capitalize on.
With these diverse builds, unleash the Oni's true potential and dominate your matches. Whether you seek swift pursuits, strategic disruptions, or chaotic confusion, these builds cater to every playstyle, ensuring that no Survivor escapes the Oni's wrath.
