The Game: NBA JAM

This phrase is used to express excitement. It’s an in your face, I just owned you sentiment. The announcer, on NBA Jam was one of the things that made the game fun and entertaining. He’d say things like, “My favorite time of year Blocktoberfest”, “And a little bit of Road Rage in the lane look out” or “KABOOM” but BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA has written itself into history.

BOOM- SHAKA-LAKA was just one of the many zingers, he would announce whenever players pulled some sweet moves. The NBA Jam announcer may have had a lot of great lines. But, BOOM SHAKA-LAKA is the one people yell, when they dunk on you in the park or school you in table tennis. It’s the in your face, celebration nobody wants to hear but everyone wants to say. So use, wisely because you can have the BOOM without the SHAKA-LAKA.

The Game: Zero Wing

This phrase is a declaration of ultimate superiority. Everything you own is now or will be mine. All your base are belong to us; is one of the most grammatically incorrect phrases in a video game ever. When, Zero Wing got translated from Japanese to English they didn’t do a very good job. So we were left with phrases like, “all our base are belong to us” , “Somebody set us up the bomb” and “What Happen”.  Barely, anyone remembers this late 80s early 90s game but everyone knows how this meme works. Just say, ALL YOUR X, ARE BELONG TO US and your done.

Back in 2001, Bad-CRC of Newsground created one of the first viral videos, and one of the first memes with his remix of All Your Base You Belong To Us.

5) The Phrase: The Right Man In The Wrong Place, Can Make All The Difference in the World

The Game: Half Life 2

This quote is probably the most profound phrase on this list. It’s almost Shakespearean in sentiment. It’s poetic. It has that whole Robert Frost, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood” sort of feel to it.  Now, this quote isn’t a meme. But, in the future, it is going to be one of those quotes everyone uses even if they have never played the game. It is like the “ With great power comes great responsibility” quote from Spiderman everyone uses but most haven’t even read the comic.

Are we the right people in the wrong place, making a difference?

I am sorry to say that we have come to the end of this list. But before you go, first I want to, “Thank You Mario! But our princess is in another castle!” Remind you that “ I once was an adventurer like yourself until I took an arrow to the knee” But, I still want you to go out there because “It’s time to kick ass and chew bubblegum and I’m all out of gum.” Until next time.
