Apex Legends is a battle royale first-person shooter game that has quite the learning curve. While various guns to select from, such as large-machine guns, small-machine guns, carbines, shotguns, snipers, and pistols, it becomes overwhelming to learn first as a beginner. Commonly, Apex Legends has a firing range with all the guns set up in rows for players to try out each one. When you are in there, try out these top ten beginner guns you might be interested in!
10. R-99: SMG, Light Ammo
The R-99 SMG, which has the fastest and highest fire compare to other weapons in the game. While the gun has low damage-per-shot, players must be accurate for the R-99 to have a significant DPS. The weapon is impeccable early, mid, or late game anywhere on the map. The SMG is incredibly powerful and has been meta since the beginning of Apex Legends.
9. Volt: SMG, Energy Ammo
One of the best high-performing guns came out in Apex Legends season six; the small-machine gun Volt. The gun is a rapid-fire energy weapon that is exceptionally accurate to control with its’ recoil. It has a solid fire rate that is slightly slower than R-99; however, the essential recoil makes it useable as a hip weapon making it ideal for those who like to rush a team fight.
8. Flatline: AR, Heavy Ammo
The Flatline is one of the most reliable Assault Rifles for wanting an automatic weapon. The gun uses heavy ammo with a heavy DPS, whether the body, leg or headshot. While the gun is like the R-301, it is harder to control for aim-down sights but decent for hip firing. Two fire-modes are single and auto fire; using the Anvil Receiver Hop-Up increases the damage on a single fire. A Flatline is an option for mid-range battles or close range, depending on the player's preference. Due to it being a popular assault rifle, it is a gun to consider.
7. Charge Rifle: Sniper, Sniper Ammo
The Charge Rifle is a hit scan weapon used for long-range battles; it will shoot enemies instantly, and keeping a steady aim can increase the damage throughout the shot. Beginners may use the gun to poke from afar and learn how to trace enemies making a viable weapon to understand accuracy, bullet drop off, and the target is moving. The biggest positives for the Charge Rifle are its 100% accuracy, and it has the most extended range out of any weapon. The negative compared to other snipers is that they cannot attach extended sniper mags.
6. Triple Take: Sniper, Sniper Ammo
The Triple Take is a sniper with a rapid-fire rate and a three-bullet spread, making it easier to hit moving targets from afar. The projectiles of the three-bullet space have severe damage and shoot horizontal. The sniper is a Supply Drop Weapon meaning it can only be found in Care Packages; it will not be floor loot. Since it is a Supply Drop weapon, it comes with its special ammo meaning it will not take up inventory space. There is a built-in Precision Choke that will make the projectiles' spread tighter when aiming down sights. While it may be suitable for long-range, the split over three shots can do well from close-range situational combat but is not guaranteed.
5. EVA-8 Auto: Shotgun, Shotgun Ammo
The EVA-8 Auto is a pump-action Shotgun that has a constant Auto Fire Mode. In the previous seasons of Apex Legends, they added an attachment to the gun, the Double Tap Trigger. Since the removal, the weapon has become more lethal in its Auto Fire Mode. The gun has a fast fire rate for up-close battle, but the damage may seem inconsistent depending on range. While it has a strong hip fire performance, it can poorly be used without a shotgun bolt attachment. The shotgun is rated to be an epic weapon towards endgame against opponents in the last couple of rings.
4. Spitfire: LMG, Heavy Ammo
The Spitfire is a light machine gun with one of the biggest heavy mags making it a powerful weapon. The fire rate may be slightly slower than other automatic weapons but does more severe damage with each shot. One of the Legends, Rampart, has a passive for LMG’s that can hold a little more rounds than its maxed mag. Throughout the seasons in Apex Legends, they have buffed and nerfed the Spitfire. In Season 9, Legacy, they have increased the recoil for its hip-fire, making it a bit harder to control. The Spitfire does have a high reward if the player knows how to master the weapon; it becomes all-powerful from even a long-range distance.
3. Alternator: SMG, Light Ammo
The Alternator is considered one of the ‘weakest SMGs’ but has a well-performance in early battles of a drop from the airship. The recoil is kept to a minimum for ADS or hip firing. The starter weapon can help beginners understand attachments for the gun, including the stabilizer, mag, and stock. The DPS on the weapon is low, and the fire rate is not as agile as the R-99. Besides the negative of being an early weapon, it has a standard magazine size, and the ammo may be used quickly.
2. Prowler: SMG, Supply Drop Weapon, Heavy Ammo
The Prowler is an SMG with a burst and automatic fire mode. Players can interchangeably switch either way for their personal preference, which can be good during or out of battle. The weapon does come from a Supply Drop making it rare to obtain, meaning it will not be standard floor loot. Since it is a Supply Drop weapon, it comes with its special ammo meaning it will not take up inventory space. In the previous seasons of Apex Legends, the Prowler used Heavy Ammo when it was a floor weapon. Great positives about the gun are the high DPS and one of the largest magazine sizes compared to other SMGs. The Prowler is a competitor to the R-99 because of the weapon's single burst being faster. The hip-fire has a tight spread, but the recoil for ADS is relatively easy to control.
1. R-301: AR, Light Ammo
The R-301 is one of the most popular assault rifles on the floor, a competitor next to the Flatline. The weapon has two fire modes, auto and single; the Anvil Receiver Hop-Up will enhance its single fire damage. The recoil is kept to a minimum and is suitable for close or long-range fights. There is fast bullet travel speed, has the most straightforward control, and has high accuracy and rate of fire. However, the damage output is low but can improve aim and accuracy by attaching a barrel stabilizer, mag, optic, and stock options. The assault rifle is perfect for beginners who will want to try a standard automatic weapon.
