Apex Legends is another Battle Royale from EA currently in its ninth season. Due to its vast growth and being one of the most popular Battle Royale games, players have found the best new settings. We will discuss tweaking in-game and out-of-game settings that will best suit PC gamers throughout this guide. These settings can help with CPU and GPU issues players may be having but should apply this best fit for their personal computers.
25. Activate Custom Properties
Previously Apex Legends did not let you customize your settings outside of the game itself. In season 9, the client, Origin, has now implemented a new setting for players to input their properties. The change will directly help people adjust what custom properties are suited for players rather than lock them. Players should use these settings at their own risk, making sure they apply the settings best fit for their personal computers.
How customizing your properties fixes the problem:
- Improve frame rate.
- High priority mode.
- Animation skips.
- Enhance field of view.
How To Apply setting:
- Open either platform Apex Legends is on, Origin or Steam.
- Find Apex Legends in your game library.
- Locate the settings for Apex Legends.
- Locate the game properties within the settings.
- Click on Advance Launch Options.
- The Command-Line Arguments will have a line provided to input custom settings.
24. Gameplay Settings: Crosshair Damage Feedback
The default is set to “X,” but we will want to switch it off. While the default setting is on, you are not able to see your targets completely clear. The visibility is low turning off the “X” will help clear the line of sight instead of the default setting.
How turning off the default Crosshair Damage Feedback fixes the problem:
- A clear line of sight of the target.
- You are not looking at an “X” across your crosshair.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Gameplay tab.
- Locate “Crosshair Damage Feedback.”
- Select “Off.”
23. Gameplay Settings: Minimap Rotation
The map during the game is defaulted to still, meaning the map will not move while your character is running. Players may not have map awareness due to minimap being locked in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
How enabling Minimap Rotation fixes the problem:
- Players will have map awareness.
- When players are rotating, the minimap will turn in the direction they will stand.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Gameplay tab.
- Locate “Minimap Rotation.”
- Select “On.”
22. Gameplay Settings: Jetpack Control
The setting is new for Apex Legends season 9 due to the character Valkyrie. Players have trouble whether to toggle or hold the jetpack. The setting is defaulted to “Hold,” and players may want to change it to their personal preference.
How selecting which Jetpack Control fixes the problem:
- Players who are interested in playing the character Valkyrie.
- If you are playing on the controller, “Toggle” is recommended.
- If you are playing on a personal computer, “Hold” is recommended.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Gameplay tab.
- Locate “Jetpack Control”
- Select “Toggle” for the controller.
- Select “Hold” for personal computer.
21. Gameplay Setting: Incoming Damage Feedback
The setting shows where the characters are being shot from in the player's field of view. Players sometimes struggle against enemies which side of their character body is being targeted. The default setting is 2D; there is a spherical outline across the screen center showing players where they are being shot from. The 3D option should give players a clearer sense of the direction of the enemy’s shots.
How 3D Incoming Damage Feedback fixes the problem:
- Setting it to 3D will show a smaller arrow pointing directly towards the enemy
- There will be a range indicator that can help players determine where they are being shot from a lot easier.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Gameplay tab.
- Locate “Incoming Damage Feedback”
- Select 3D
20. Gameplay Settings: Taking Damage Closes Deathbox or Crafting Menu
The setting will benefit players during intense fights when multiple parties are attacking them. Apex Legends has a strategic move where players can easily body armor swap from death boxes to get an instant shield. The default setting will kick the player out of the box while looting for the body armor.
How disabling Taking Damage Closes Deathbox or Crafting Menu fixes the problem:
- Turning the default setting off will allow players to shield swap and loot while being inside of a fight.
- Enhances player's quickness with searching through death boxes.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Gameplay tab.
- Locate “Taking Damage Closes Deathbox or Crafting Menu”
- Select “Off”
19. Gameplay Settings: Color Blind Mode
The default setting is set to “Off,” which will give players a red optic, including the iron sights. The majority of the professional players use Tritanopia for a yellow optic and iron sights.
How selecting Tritanopia Color Blind Mode fixes the problem:
- Tritanopia makes it a lot easier for players to see where the optic is pointed.
- The yellow is more visible than the red default.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Gameplay tab.
- Locate “Color Blind Mode”
- Select “Tritanopia”
18. Mouse/Keyboard Settings: ADS Mouse Sensitivity…
The tab will open a new page finding an ADS Mouse Sensitivity Multiplier. While aiming down your gunsights, the field of view for the player is decreased. The sensitivity scales with the field of view, and the settings have their default number.
How adjusting ADS Mouse Sensitivity Multiplier fixes the problem:
- Setting it to 1.3 will give an accurate one-to-one mouse sensitivity when you are aiming down sights.
- Setting it to 1.3 will also improve the hip firing.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on Mouse/Keyboard tab.
- Locate “ADS Mouse Sensitivity…”
- Set ADS Mouse Sensitivity Multiplier to 1.3
17. Mouse/Keyboard Setting: Move Forward
Typically moving forward will always be bound to the “W” key. However, there is a second slot where players can key bind it on the keyboard or mouse. Moving forward has no complications, but binding it to the second key will help improve a new movement tap strafing.
How binding a second key to Move Forward improves:
- Binding your scroll wheel up to go forward will allow players to do a tap strafing movement technique.
- Tap strafing will allow physically impossible movement.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on Mouse/Keyboard tab.
- Locate “Move Forward” underneath Movement.
- Locate the “Key 2” slot.
- Bind your mouse’s scroll wheel up to Move Forward in Key 2.
16. Mouse/Keyboard Setting: Jump
Typically moving Jump will always be bound to the “Space” key. However, there is a second slot where players can key bind it on the keyboard or mouse. Jumping has no complications, but binding it to the second key will help improve a new movement for b-hopping and zipline techniques.
How binding a second key to Jump improves:
- Binding your scroll wheel down to Jump will allow players to do the movement technique b-hopping.
- Binding your scroll wheel down to Jump will allow players to double their height and distance on jumping on ziplines.
- Zipline jumps will allow physically impossible movement.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on Mouse/Keyboard tab.
- Locate “Jump” underneath Movement.
- Locate the “Key 2” slot.
- Bind your mouse’s scroll wheel down to Jump in Key 2.
15. Video: Full Screen
The setting defaults to Full Screen, but Borderless Window can lead to some issues with the monitor’s refresh rate. Players should choose their Display Mode depending on the monitor.
How Full Screen will fix the problem:
- There will contribute little to no issues with monitor refresh rate improving gameplay.
- The display will cover the entirety of the monitor.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Display Mode.”
- Select “Full Screen.”
14. Video: Resolution
Players may have a different resolution for their monitors, but a standard resolution is 1920 x 1080p. However, players can adjust the setting for stretch resolution.
How Resolution fixes the problem:
- Determining the players' monitors can adjust their Resolution to 1920 x 1080p for realistic and clear video.
- The video will appear in high definition from 1920 x 1080p.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Resolution.”
- Select “1920 x 1080 (native).”
13. Video: Field of View
The setting will have an impact on how players will view their surroundings. The setting above 90 may affect performance or cause visual issues. However, it determines on the monitor and personal computer. Players can adjust the setting outside of the game itself and in the client of Origin or Steam.
How Field of View fixes the problem:
- Maxing the Field of View to 110 will give players a zoomed-out view.
- Players can adjust the setting to 120 outside of Apex Legends and in the client.
- Increasing the Field of View can help players see their surroundings better.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Field of View”
- Maximize the bar to 110.
12. Video: Sprint View Shake
The default setting in Apex Legends is set to “Normal,” which can cause a shake when players are running around the map. The setting can make it a little more difficult to spot enemies and play during fights when the screen is shaking.
How Sprint View Shake fixes the problem:
- Switching the setting to “Minimal” will help decrease the shaking of the player's screen during combat.
- Players will be able to see enemies and fight clearly without shake.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Sprint View Shake.”
- Select “Minimal.”
11. Video: V-Sync
When the setting is enabled, it will lower your frames per second and the trade-off between screen ‘tearing,’ and the time it takes for your actions to appear on the screen (input lag). Disabling it will increase the ‘tearing’ but reduce the input lag. There are other options such as Double Buffered and triple Buffered but disabling the option is preferable.
How disabling V-Sync fix the problem:
- There will be no input lag or decrease in performance.
- There will be no tearing.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “V-Sync.”
- Select“Disabled.”
10. Video: Nvidia Reflex
The default setting is enabled; it is designed to reduce input lag and increase the performance of your personal computer. Not having the setting allowed will reduce system latency which will have no PC responsiveness. However, if players are using a lower-end personal computer that does not have a lot of graphics power, then the player should select “Enabled + Boost.” There are no problems with this setting, and it only improves the quality of the gameplay.
How enabling Nvidia Reflex improves:
- Reduces input lag and increases the performance of the personal computer.
- Enabling will increase personal computer responsiveness.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Nvidia Reflex.”
- Select “Enabled.”
9. Video: Adaptive Resolution FPS Target
The setting lowers rendering resolution and tries to lock it in a specified target framerate. The image quality could have a better performance only if the FPS is lowered. Having the setting enabled will make the quality of your game look inconsistent. Adaptive Resolution cannot reduce hitches resulting from overcommitted VRAM. If allowed, then it would require TSAA.
How lowering Adaptive Resolution FPS Target fix the problem:
- Reducing the setting to zero will not lock your Resolution and aim for a target framerate.
- The image quality during the game will not look inconsistent.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Adaptive Resolution FPS Target.”
- Lower the bar to zero.
8. Video: Texture Streaming Budget
The setting controls the amount of memory reserved for texture streaming. 16GB of RAM is recommended for settings beyond High. However, anything above it is an option. Medium (3GB VRAM) will be excessive. Each of the settings will specify the recommended GPU VRAM amount.
How lowering Texture Streaming Budget will fix the problem:
- The options None, 2GB, and 3GB are recommended to help players' graphics cards not be used extremely.
- Having it on a lower helps improve game quality.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Texture Streaming Budget”
- Select “None, 2G, or 3G.”
7. Video: Anti-Aliasing
The setting smoothens out images reducing jagged lines and sparkles. Enabling TSAA will use the graphics card, and turning it down will reduce the GPU load. TSAA does have improved Anti-Aliasing quality with stable images and fast framerates. The option will make the game look and feel a bit smoother. There are no complications with either available option.
How disabling Anti-Aliasing improves:
- Frames will slightly be boosted.
- The quality of the game will become sharper.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Anti-Aliasing.”
- Select “None."
6. Video: Texture Filtering
The setting helps control the sharpness of surface details which will use GPU load. However, turning down the setting will reduce GPU load.
How Texture Filtering fixes the problem:
- Anisotropic 4X is an excellent medium between low- and high-end GPUs.
- GPU loads will be consistent for sharpness and surface details.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Texture Filtering.”
- Select “Anisotropic 4X.”
5. Video: Ambient Occlusion Quality
The difference between the options for the setting of disabled and high is 15% which affects the performance the most. 15% is a huge difference. Ambient Occlusion Quality is shadow or sun quality, and reducing the quality will reduce the GPU load.
How lowering Ambient Occlusion Quality fixes the problem:
- Disabling Ambient Occlusion Quality will ease GPU load.
- Shadow and Sun quality will be minimal for gameplay.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Ambient occlusion Quality.”
- Select “Disabled.”
4. Video: Volumetric Lighting
The setting determines whether players will see sunbeams in-game using GPU and CPU power. The sunbeams will have light scattering the air and are player preference.
How disabling Volumetric Lighting fixes the problem:
- Disabling the setting will decrease GPU power.
- Disabling the setting will decrease CPU power.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Volumetric Lighting.”
- Select “Disabled.”
3. Video: Model Detail
The setting allows players to see their character model detail, including legends and objects. Players having the setting on high will run their GPU power more.
How adjusting Model Detail fixes the problem:
- Select “Medium” for around a 4% performance boost when you compare it to high.
- Select “Low” will have around a 6% performance boost.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Model Detail.”
- Select either “Medium” or “Low.”
2. Video: Ragdolls
The setting controls how physically accurate the dead body animations are. After a player dies, the animation of the Legends body stays before the death box appears. The option affects the CPU more than GPU load.
How adjusting Ragdolls fixes the problem:
- Selecting “Medium” will reduce the CPU load.
- Ragdolls effects will not stand in the way of players looting.
How to apply setting:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Video tab.
- Locate “Ragdolls.”
- Select “Medium.”
1. Audio: Sound In Background
The setting allows game sound to play even if it's not an active application. Personal computer players could use alt-tab to look at YouTube or Twitch on their monitor or side monitor. However, if this setting is disabled, the game audio will not be available during the match.
How applying Sound In Background fixes the problem:
- Turning on the setting will make sure players can still hear the game in the background.
- Players hearing the game in the background will comprehend what is happening during the game while being tabbed out.
How to apply settings:
- Open Apex Legends settings.
- Click on the Audio tab.
- Locate “Sound In Background.”
- Select “On.”
