10. Simple Pistol (Best for weak opponents, mid-range)
The Simple Pistol is the first gun you’ll have access to in Ark Survival Evolved. The Engram can be unlocked at level 34 and the gun can be crafted in a smithy, Tek Replicator, or even in specific saddles. It uses Simple Bullets as ammo, with melee damage of 10 and ranged damage of 100. Also, it has a rate of fire of 2.1 RPS and it can shoot 6 bullets before it needs reloading. It unlocks the Fabricated Pistol and even if its specifications aren’t the most impressive, this weapon will always have a place in your heart.
Why the Simple Pistol is great:
- It is available from beginner levels
- It’s the first fire weapon you can craft and will definitely make a difference in combat
- It has high ranged damage of 100
- It supports attachments like a Flashligh, Laser, Silencer, or Scope

9. Shotgun (Best for close combat, very little range)
If you want to get a Longneck Rifle that can be used from a close distance, the Shotgun is the simplest solution. It is unlocked quite early in the game, at level 39 and it has incredible damage of 640. It’s probably one of the best options for quarters battles. Also, it’s useful to keep in mind that this is not the right weapon to use for targeting enemies in the distance. One shell of the Shotgun fires 10 pellets, so it’s possible to hit the target up to 10 times in a row. It can be crafted from metal Ingots, Wood and Hide, or it can be found in Yellow or Red supply crates.
Why is the Shotgun great:
- It has high ranged damage of 64*10
- Best used in quarters combat
- Allows quickfire at a target
- Available at a relatively low level - 39

8. Assault Rifle (Best for taking down large creatures)
On the 8th position comes the Assault Rifle. This gun is best known for its incredible high fire rate of 10 RPS. With ranged damage of 46, this weapon can cause the same damage with one shot as a Fabricated Pistol, with the mention that it does it twice as fast. However, such properties come with a cost. The Assault Rifle uses Advanced Rifle Bullets, expensive ammo that’s not easily crafted. The weapon becomes available at level 58, requiring 25 engram points, and can also be found in Purple Supply Crates.
Why is the Assault Rifle great:
- It has the best rate of fire
- The weapon can support attachments: Flashlight, Lase, Silencer, Holo-Scope
- It’s extremely effective for multiple hits on a target
- The Assault Rifle is fully automatic

7. Longneck Rifle (Best for hunting & taming)
Considering its many uses, the Longneck Rifle could have even been on the top of this list. However, considering only its melee and ranged damage, the Longneck Rifle is easily overtaken by stronger weapons. I’ll let it have its moment of glory and say that it is indeed one of the most useful guns you’ll find in this game. First of all, it only requires level 35 to be crafted and it has considerable damage of 280. It can use a variety of ammo, from simple rifle ammo and tranq darts to shocking tranquilizers and even pheromone darts. That’s why it’s a must-have for any player.
Why is the Longneck Rifle great:
- It’s a smart way of knocking dinosaurs unconscious for taming
- It can support attachments
- The gun unlocks many other powerful weapons
- Gives both ranged and melee damage

6. Fabricated Sniper Rifle (Best for targeting enemies from the distance)
This is an advanced, ranged weapon that uses Advanced Sniper Bullets as ammo. It only does 165 damage per shot, which is not much compared to the 280 damage of the Longneck Rifle. However, the Longneck Rifle needs constant reloading, while this gun can shot 8 times consecutively, with a rate of fire of 3.3 RPS. Also, with an incredible DPS of 251.9/1340, it is certainly superior to the rest. Strangely enough, it can even be used at close range, even if it comes with an incorporated Scope for better accuracy.
Why is the Fabricated Sniper Rifle great:
- Incorporated Scope for accuracy
- Also works at close range, though it’s best used at long range
- If you count the Scope, the weapon can hold two attachments
- Over a minute of continuous fire, you can reach 11880 damage

5. Pump-Action Shotgun (Best for short-medium range)
The Pump-Action Shotgun has ranged damage of 46*14, being one of the most powerful weapons if used up close. Also, it uses Simple Shotgun ammo, which is an advantage regarding the cost of crafting materials. This gun is extremely flexible, has decent reload time and rate of fire, and has unbelievable durability. What makes it better than the rest? Besides the durability of 300, the gun has a truly large ammo count and it doesn’t require many resources for crafting. 30x Metal Ingots, 55x Polymer and 45x Cementing Paste are charity, considering its advantages.
Why is the Pump-Action Shotgun great:
- The best durability - 300
- Uses simple ammo
- It has a great crafting cost
- Large ammo count that gives amazing damage: 46*14

4. Tek Phase Pistol (Best for multiple uses: harm, heal or stun)
The cost for Tek weapons is Element, a specific and exceptional resource. This pistol shoots plasma beans. It is unique because it offers 3 modes of use: kill, heal or stun. With the killing mode, the max multiplier can reach 20X and take down large creatures in no time. The Tek Phase Pistol can also heal your tames, by simply swapping modes. How to do so? Press L2 if you play on PS4 or LT if you are on Xbox One. For Pc, simply right-click. Unfortunately, this amazing weapon is only available on Genesis: Part 2 DLC.
Why is the Tek Phase Pistol great:
- It comes with 3 available modes
- Heals your tames and kills your enemies
- Can stun any creature
- You can use it to knock down any creature almost instantly

3. Tek Rifle (Best for explosive damage)
First of all, the Tek Rifle doesn’t need to be reloaded at any time. That’s probably enough to convince you. If not, here are others advantages. This amazing weapon can be fired underwater, causing explosive damage of 150. Moreover, its rate of fire is around 4 RPS and it even has decent durability of 80. Even if it doesn’t need reloading, the gun will overheat after 41 continuous shots, so it’s better to give it time to cool down. Except for the Rocket Launcher, the Tek Rifle is the only ranged weapon that can cause explosive damage.
Why is the Tek Rifle great:
- One Element supplies the rifle with 50 shots
- It does powerful, explosive damage
- Reloading it is not a necessity
- It comes with an incorporated scope

2. Cruise Missile (Best for powerful hits from the distance)
This brilliant, terrifying weapon will win you any combat in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, it is a one-time use weapon. On the other hand, it can be controlled and guided remotely as it is launched to a specific target. The Cruise Missile can only be found on Genesis: Part 1 DLC. It can be crafted in a Tek Replicator, requiring a large breakdown of resources, but the result is worth it.
Why is the Cruise Missile great:
- It can cause 882 damage on a direct hit
- The missile can be guided toward the target
- It moves at an incredible speed
- This weapon can kill creatures, players and damage structures instantly

1. Tek Railgun (Best for End-Game)
This tek gun is as powerful as it looks. It can only be obtained when you reach advanced levels and even then, using it properly is a challenge. Why? Because it doesn’t shoot bullets, it shoots explosive plasma and uses Element as ammo. Its durability is not impressive, somewhere around 80, but it compensated through its incredible range damage of 850. This weapon can be crafted on Aberration, Genesis: Part 1, and Extinction DLCs. It doesn’t need to be reloaded, but it needs to cool down after every shot. It even comes with an incorporated Scope to improve accuracy.
Why is the Tek Railgun great:
- Its ranged power of 850 is impressive and unique
- The gun doesn’t require reloading
- It comes with a built-in scope that has a heat signature and tracking function
- It has a toggleable x-ray feature. This means it can see through walls
