Start at 0:25
Lost Island is the most popular Ark Survival Evolved at the moment, but just like any other Ark map, its metal resources can be tricky to find, especially when you’re searching for large quantities. Firstly, start searching for mountain peaks, rivers, bays, caves, and deep springs of water.
The Tuskgor Mountains are the perfect metal farming location to start with. Next to a great source of water, this location is filled with metal nodes, obsidian, oil, and even crystal or cementing paste. It’s truly a resource paradise that’s waiting to be explored!
Why Tuskgor Mountain is great for getting metal:
- It’s one of the most frequent spawning places for the Ankylosaurus, so in your ways to get metal, you could always stop to tame this dinosaur. The Anky is the best Ark creature when it comes to farming metal and many other rocky resources
- It’s quite easy to access. Although it’s filled with dangerous predators, if you’re well-equipped, this could work in your favor.
- You’ll find an abundance of metal here. The only problem will be carrying it.

Start at 8:10
The Boreal Forest is most likely to be your first spawning point in Valguero. This stunning place is filled with Metal, Sap, Red Flowers, Wood, and many other great resources that will serve you well both in the Early and Mid Game.
As you’ll advance, you’ll find yourself getting back to this amazing location to gather lots of metal for new, complex items. However, the place isn’t a safe paradise. Always keep an eye open for Rexes, Raptors, and Sabertooths.
Why Boreal Forest is great for getting metal:
- It’s a spawning point for any new player, so its accessibility is great. Newbies can stay close to the inland and find metal resources safely, while advanced players can adventure in the depths of the forest to gather unbelievable amounts of it.
- Also known as Taiga, the place is full of useful resources for both the Early and Mid Game. From fiber, flint, stone, and wood to oil and metal, it’s all you’ve ever wished for.
- Gorgeous views and advantageous location for exploring the other parts of the map.

8. Lava Cave - The Center
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZcboGeGj7Q
Start at 30:00
While it’s full of metal, the Lava Cave is no place for beginners. The extreme heat, dangerous jumps, and deadly lava will surely make it hard for anyone to walk through this cave. Apart from protecting the Artifact of the Strong, this cave also offers incredible amounts of metal for the players who dare to enter it.
Gather all the metal you can carry and craft the best weapons for the Final battle. Finally, one important tip: bring lots of Grappling Hooks. There are never enough grappling hooks for this cave.
Why Lava Cave is great for getting metal:
- Get a metal pick and start the adventure. Metal is an important resource, especially in the Mid-Late Game, where you need to craft expensive items to advance. The journey will improve both your inventory and fighting skills
- In the end, the rewards are the Artifact of the Strong and the Artifact of the Massive. Finishing the cave is optional, but having enough metal and tames is a great way to complete the trip.
- Gathering metal from this place is not only effective, as the cave is full of resources, but will also prepare you for the hardest part of the game.

7. Northern Mountains - Scorched Earth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Apv7gl7U0k
Start at 0:30
Scorched Earth is not a friendly map. However, it has some large metal resources that will give you a nice advantage in the game. When it comes to this map, mountain peaks are the best place to look for good-quality metal.
The perfect example is the Northern Mountains, especially the top of the eastern mountain. Grab a pick and find unbelievable amounts of both metal and obsidian. This action alone should keep you busy for a few hours. As a bonus, another idea is to check out the Eastern Badlands. However, watch out for Carnos.
Why Northern Mountains is a great location for getting metal:
- Scorched Earth isn’t a map filled with rivers and deep springs of water, so exploring mountain peaks is genuinely the best option.
- You can find both Metal and Obsidian in generous amounts. Moreover, with a little creativity, the place is also accessible for your tames.
- It’s impossible not to find enough metal in this location. The rocky hills never let you down. It’s even close to the Northern Canyon, so there is a second option if things go wrong.

A safe spot full of metal, obsidian, and other precious resources. The region contains jungles and beaches where you’ll occasionally find the annoying Dilos, Pegomastax, or Ichthyornis, but if you stay close to the shore, that’s about all the danger you’ll encounter.
The Oluf Jungle is abundant in metal-bearing rocks. They can be found embedded in cliff faces and the sides of large rocks jutting up from the beach, while Obsidian rocks are hidden in the underwater cave.
Why Oluf Jungle is a great location for getting metal:
- Most creatures here tend to be docile, so you can mine metal rocks peacefully around the beach. It’s the perfect metal source for the Early-Game, as aggressive carnivores are not fans of the area.
- There are multiple metal sources all around the place. From metal rocks embedded in cliff faces to nodes that can be found in the shallow waters of the river, finding enough metal here is a sure thing.
- This North-West peninsula is also great for storing all the gathered metal and taming useful dinosaurs, as you can easily set a temporary base on the beach.
