COD Black Ops Cold War Zombies Maps - Which is Best

A list of our choices for the best maps to play on zombies in black ops cold war

With the final map “Forsaken” Being released recently, The question on everyone’s mind now would be…What is the best map of them all In the Black Ops Cold War? What makes them stand out above the rest? Those questions will be answered today as we go over our picks for the best zombies map to play in Black Ops Cold War ranked from worst to best.

5. Outbreak

Starting up our list in last place we have Outbreak. This map had the potential to be a revolutionary turn in the zombie franchise but has ended up becoming a stain in zombies history most fans would rather leave forgotten in the past.

It is just such a complete 180 from the usual round-based gameplay that it was hard to adapt to. Instead of the usual round-based play it is divided into waves and you only progress through the waves if you complete the main objective on the first wave, so in essence, You can spend up to a half-hour or longer just on round 1…yes, you read correctly. Plus it is really just a mash-up of multiple maps and meaningless side quests and two main easter egg quests that don’t really fit into the storyline.

Just seems like they were struggling to come up with an idea for a new map so they decided to copy and paste warzone, Change up the maps and put an unnecessary amount of side quests, and left it at that. Really lacks personality and novelty in every sense of the word. Any strategy you had for playing zombies is pretty much thrown out the window on this map and it turns into more so you looting and hope you get decent weapons and enough cash to upgrade them.  The one good reason someone would have to play this map would be to rank up your weapons to play on the other round-based maps on this list.

4. Firebase Z

Following up Outbreak in 4th place, we have the first originally made zombies map since Black Ops 3 and quite frankly, Another remade map would have been better quality and required more effort than this. The spawning lobby is a campaign mission and you are met with a character named “Ravenov” That you have never heard of before loading up into this new map.

After traveling through the portal in the spawn area you have whisked away to a soviet military base. The overall layout of this portion is not the worst, It is really just a bunch of average-sized yards and passageways with some buildings in-between. The wonder weapon on the map “ Rai-k” Is in all honesty completely garbage. The damage falloff is so great you are better off using your personal weapon the entirety of the game or hoping you can come across the ray gun or DIE shockwave in the mystery box since they have recently been added to this map.

One redeeming feature on this map would be the addition of guarding the generators against zombies on the boss zombie ORDA invading the beaches to attack the generator. Besides that, there is not much reason to replay this map, The easter egg throws the storyline into disarray, The quest itself is so easy to beat I am pretty sure a toddler could beat it and use zero of its brain cells doing it. Your knife will do more damage to the zombies than the maps wonder weapon could.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the side quest to get the free wonder weapon is also incredibly tedious, One of the steps will have you matching spots on a computer to spots on a dartboard in the main lobby. You will be able to complete this step no problem if the computer wasn’t so slow at showing the positions and it was;nt so tedious to shoot each individual spot on the dart in a confined room while attempting to not be overrun by zombies in the process. Consider they made this map and THEN made outbreak almost makes me want to start a petition for the developers and editors of the game to lose their jobs for neglect.

3. Mauer der Toten

Coming in at the middle of the list we have mauer der Toten, The third playable map to be released for Black Ops Cold War.  The developers seemed to be aiming to redeem themselves from firebase Z and outbreak and I would say they did a fine job doing so.

The map is vertical based so you start at the top of a blown-up apartment building and zipline your way through bars, Workshops, and grocery stores as you make your way down to the streets of Berlin, From there you go into the subway system to turn on the power and move around between the east and west sides of berlin fighting off the horde.

The wonder weapon for this map is, In my opinion, The absolute best wonder weapon to be released to date. Damage output is insane and it drops multiple weapon variants from zombie kills for your wonder weapon to transform too. There are plenty of different areas to safely train the zombies and not get caught in corners. The easter egg is fairly difficult to beat but that is what makes it so much fun. The special and boss zombies on the map are especially challenging fun to battle against as well, The novelty on this map never expires and you will find yourself playing this map time and time again whether it is by yourself or with friends.

2. Die Maschine

Coming in second place on the list we have Die Maschine, The first zombie’s map as it came out with the base game at launch. The map is a remake of the zombie’s map that kicked off the entire zombie franchise and that is Nacht Der Untoten.

Die Maschine is set a few years after the events of Nacht Der Untoten and the building is now a cold war conflict site between the east and their omega group and the west and their requiem group. The nostalgic building is the first thing you see when you load into the map at first but the project endstation and the secret unground base beneath as well as being able to play outside the iconic building on its own grounds to see what it looks like from the outside is a nice touch.

All areas of the map flush together really well and the player is met with plenty of open space to train the zombies or run away to find a safe spot to catch a quick breath. The wonder weapon, The DIE Shockwave is a nice addition to the wonder weapon family as well and it boasts multiple variants and the ability to refill ammo from sucking in zombies. From a recent update, You can now pack-a-punch this weapon and all its variants. Further increasing the already high damage output it had already.

The easter egg is nice and easy with moderate difficulty and it really set up the story really nice with its an easter egg. Unfortunately, the story was smashed to bits with the release of the other maps but we will always have this map to look back to and think back to how the story could have been.

1.Forsaken

In first place on the list, we have the final round-based map in black ops cold war and that would be Forsaken. Definitely was a great note to end the storyline off of and an incredibly made map to boot. In the beginning, you start off in an area much like the pawn area from the moon but a little different this time around. The rounds rapidly increase and zombies increase in strength and numbers the longer you stay inside the spawn room and you are given an armory, Crafting table, and depth perception which is great for you to loot up salvage and points in the early game before you dive into the bulk of the map.

Once you go through the portal and survived the spawn room you will find yourself fighting through three separate areas of an incredibly large map. Anytown USA with an east and west and from there you will be instructed to pick up parts and build a portal to go into the observation tower, Which is where you will be able to upgrade your weapons and we will be given a temporary reprieve from the zombies since there is radiation in the tower preventing them from coming, however, you do take passive damage while in the tower so make sure you do not make that break of yours last too long.

The wonder weapon for this map, The Crysalaxe Savager, A dual-type weapon that doubles as a battle axe and an smg, Both do incredible amounts of damage but the battle axe version wins in terms of overall damage being able to one-tap enemies in a single swing for the high rounds. The easter egg is relatively easy to beat as well since you are guided by the game for the majority of the easter egg with only a couple of steps for you to actually do your own due diligence on. The boss battle is tough but not tough enough to make you throw your controller at your tv so that is a plus, The main premise for the battle is fighting the boss that has been creating the zombies in the cold war from the start, The Foresaken.

You will be fighting alongside maxis to defeat this beast as you feed maxis energy from the fallen zombies to charge up laser cannons to fire at the colossal creature. The cutscenes afterward wrap up the story and answer most, If not all of the questions we all had and needed to be answered for the series. The map is incredibly fun to play time and time again whether by yourself or with friends and I even find myself playing this map quite often.

The easter egg is easy, The map is challenging but easy to survive once you get the hang of it and the wonder weapon evens out the playing field for you when facing special zombies and the boss zombie if you plan on doing the easter egg. The well-thought-out layout of the map, Wonder weapon, Easy complete easter egg, and overall playability and novelty is what earns this gem the first place spot on our list today.
