Be the best you can be on the sticks!

When it comes to controllers, we all have our preferences. There’s all kinds of options out there to up your Warzone game, ranging from SCUFs to Precision Rings and back paddles. While those add-ons are based on preference, what’s important is how you can make your controller work for you!

10. Tactical BR Button Layout

Your button layout can affect your whole playstyle. For instance, “Default” makes takedowns tricky with Melee as your R3. “Tactical” maps Crouch/Prone/Slide to R3, offering a balanced playstyle and easier drop shot ability.

Advantages of “Tactical” BR Button Layout:

  • Melee with Circle (PS4) or B (Xbox)
  • Dropshot to the floor with ease
  • Best option for a standard controller

How to Apply “Tactical” BR Button Layout:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • BR Button Layout will be the first item
  • Select “Tactical”

9. Trigger/Button Flipping

Like it or not, it takes longer to press the R2/L2 shoulder triggers than the R1/L1 bumpers. This means that shooting with the triggers costs time! We all know that even a split second counts in Warzone. Flipping these controls makes it not only easier to spam fire but also better on your hands. Players who like semi-auto fire guns might prefer shooting with the R1 bumper.

Advantages of Trigger/Button Flipping:

  • More accurate aim
  • More ergonomic
  • Faster shooting

How to Apply Trigger/Button Flipping:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • After selecting “Tactical,” press Square to flip
    • This flips trigger and bumper actions

8. Deadzones

If your controller isn’t fresh out of the box, you might notice some stick drift in your L3 and R3. An easy way to tell is if your character or your aim keeps moving on its own after setting the controller down. Instead of dropping money on a new controller, you can adjust your Deadzone settings for a quick fix. This is all based on your controller, so start low with “0.03” for those Min. Inputs. If you find yourself cranking it up to “10,” then it’s time to retire those sticks.

Advantages of Deadzone Changes:

  • Fixes Stick Drift
  • Max response time
  • Better gameplay experience

How to Apply Deadzone Changes:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • Increase Left and Right Stick Min/Max Inputs as desired
    • Ex.: Left/Right Stick Min. Inputs= “0.03”
    • Ex.: Left/Right Stick Max. Inputs= “0.99”

7. Movement

Ever feel like the default Movement settings are holding you back? Being able to get to the ground fast is just as important as being quick on your feet. These settings can take some time to get used to, but they’ll help you start to find weapons and loot faster.

Advantages of Changing Movement Settings:

  • Faster/easier slide canceling
  • Moving forward when you want to for stealth
  • Quicker to the ground=start looting faster

How to Apply Movement Setting Changes:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
    • Slide Behavior on “Tap”
    • Automove Forward “Disabled”
    • Tactical Sprint: “Double Tap”
    • Automatic Sprint: “Automatic Tactical Sprint”
    • Parachute Auto-Deploy “Disabled”

6. Aim Response Curve

Being able to notice when you’re missing shots is the first step to improving your aim. The Aim Response Curve is a technical setting you can change to adjust the speed between your aim and when you move the stick. AKA, where you move your thumbstick is what you see in-game. Knowing recoil patterns and this fast aim fix will change up your game.

Advantages of Dynamic Aim Response Curve:

  • Helps stay on target at close range
  • Delivers fast aim
  • Tight-aim control across weapons

How to Apply Dynamic Aim Response Curve:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • Find Aim Response Curve, select “Dynamic”

5. Custom Sensitivity Per Zoom

You don’t want your enemies outrunning your crosshairs while ADS. An easy way to spot this issue is by comparing scopes such as the 4x Flip and your sniper scopes. Tuning this setting can improve your aim.

Advantages of Custom Sensitivity per Zoom:

  • Keep aim centered
  • More able to lead targets while sniping
  • Maximize your gunfights

How to Apply Custom Sensitivity per Zoom:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • Switch Custom Sensitivity per Zoom “On”
  • Make the following changes for ADS Sens. Multiplier:
    • Low through 4x Zoom= (0.75)
    • 5x through High Zoom= (1.00)

4. Controller Vibration

You don’t want any distractions when you’re under enemy fire. While keeping vibration on adds to an immersive experience, it can make your shots feel less controlled. This is why competitive players and streamers alike disable this option to keep their aim as accurate as possible. I’ve only noticed a difference after finally disabling the setting myself.

Advantages of Disabling Controller Vibration:

  • Keeps your aim on target
  • Can improve overall accuracy
  • Less prone to movement spikes when shot

How to Disable Controller Vibration:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • Switch Controller Vibration to “Disabled”

3. Use/Reload Behavior

Holding Square to pick up an item or open a box shouldn’t be what’s costing your games. From the moment you hit the ground, you can’t afford to waste any time–especially in hot drops! Adjusting your Use/Reload to Contextual Tap allows you to loot and act faster.

Advantages of Switching to Contextual Tap:

  • Cuts time for looting
  • Makes actions quick
  • Tap to pick up items/hop in vehicles
  • Hold to reload

How to Apply Contextual Tap:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • Head down to Weapons
  • Find Use/Reload Behavior option
  • Switch to “Contextual Tap”

2. Aim Sensitivity

Notice how long it takes to move your crosshairs over an enemy? Playing with a controller often requires tuning up your aim sensitivity. Raising it to a higher value can add an edge in a firefight. Most competitive streamers set their sensitivity between 6-10. Warzone’s default is 5, so bump it up slowly until your gameplay feels right.

Advantages of Changing Aim Sensitivity:

  • Quicker reaction time
  • Situational awareness
  • Movement speed

How to Apply Aim Sensitivity Changes:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • Locate Controls section
  • See “Horizontal Stick Sensitivity” and “Vertical Stick sensitivity”
  • Adjust both to the same values
    • For example, (6:6) or (8:8)

1. Aim Assist Type

Warzone’s crossplay feature can have console players feeling a bit tapped out when it comes to aim assist type. There are three options for players to choose from, but make your choice based on preference and experience with FPS-style games. Switching to Standard can help improve your experience by adding rotational aim assist where others might be too intensive.

Advantages of “Standard” Aim Assist:

  • Strong aim assist on target, but not TOO strong
  • Wide area around enemy

How to Apply Aim Assist Change:

  • Navigate to Options in Settings
  • Go to the Controller tab
  • Head down to Weapons
  • Find Aim Assist, select “Standard”
