CS:GO Guide: Best Cases To Open

CS:GO Cases
Updated:
04 Oct 2022

Cases are a great way to get rare skins when you want to test your luck. From $100+ gloves and weapons to $200+ knives, there’s a case for everyone. So even if you don’t like a particular skin, you can still find some pretty unique and expensive stuff. The question is, which cases are the best?

Before I get into that, you should know most cases require a key. Generally speaking, cases are inexpensive, ranging from spare change to a few dollars. The keys, however, always cost $2.50 (in-game, since keys on the Steam Market are usually more expensive). So in total, you might be spending $2.55 or more per case. And sometimes, you’ll get random cases for free after you play a match.

Please keep in mind that price and demand change frequently, but I will do my best to approximate their value (at this time). All approximations are based on non-stat track items since the main focus is on the skin itself.

Lastly, (and to be fair) the drop rates for most, if not all high-tier skins tend to be very low (check image gallery for full details). Nevertheless, feel free to use this information for future reference or to defy the odds (especially when you can get cases for free).

With that said, let’s get into it.

10. Operation Riptide (2021-2022)

Image
Body Image
Look out for the Ocean Drive, Leet Museo, and Doppler knives.

The newest case on the market so far. The O.R.C. offers plenty of new skins and designs including cubism art (e.g. fragmented objects) on an AK, race cars on a scout, colorful shapes on a Deagle, and so on. If you don’t get a weapon skin, there’s always a chance you’ll get a knife instead, such as the Butterfly Lore, or Hunstman Autotronic.

Prices range from ~$.05 to $50 (weapons) to ~$1,700 (knives). Rarity ranges from Mil-spec (lowest) to Covert (rarest guns, besides discontinued items) to Melee Weapons (such as knives). Personally, I feel the Steam Market is the safest bet, but if you feel comfortable using BitSkins, by all means do so.

Body Image
Look out for the M4A1-S | Printstream and various gloves.

Broken Fang was the 10th (out of 11) CS:GO Operation lasting from December 3, 2020 to May 3rd, 2021.  The case features 24 glove combinations, such as the Broken Fang | Yellow Banded and Specialist Gloves | Tiger Strike. It also includes the M4A1-S | Prinstream, Five-SeveN | Fairy Tale, M4A4 | Cyber Security, etc.

If you’re curious as to what some of these skins look like, I’ll give you a few examples. The Five-Seven fairy tale has a pink background with an image of a princess holding a pink unicorn; the Prinstream has a sort of rainbow shine to it when exposed to daylight; and the Cyber Security uses light blue, red, and yellow diagonal bands with a shade of black towards the front and end. As for some of the gloves, you can see the Operation’s logo of a Jaguar/Leopard wrestling with a snake, and a few spotted/stripe designs as well.

All in all, this case offers one of the most highly sought out M4A1 skins (especially after the buff) and high-tier sporty/driving gloves.

Weapon prices (including BitSkins) range from ~$.07 to $220, while gloves range from ~$70 to ~$2,100. Skin ranks range from Mil-Spec to Covert to Melee Weapons (such as gloves).

Body Image
Look out for the M4A4 | Emperor and various knives.

The Prisma Case features over 15 weapons and various high-tier knives. Many of these knives use gradient (or transitioning) colors, such as the Stiletto Knife | Doppler and Talon | Marble Fade. For instance, you’ll see some blades transition from an ice blue to a fiery red color or a pink magenta to a galaxy purple. As a result, the price goes up significantly. The primary weapon for this case is, “The Emperor,” valued at ~$60-80 brand new. Unlike most M4A4 skins, it uses a starry blue background reminiscent of the night sky, and a moderate amount of gold paint for prestige.

The Prisma Case then offers one of the most popular M4A4 skins along with rare spectrums, solid colors, and patterned knives.

Prices range from ~$.010 to $80 for weapons and ~$60 to $700 for knives. Rarity ranges from Mil-Spec to Covert to Melee Weapons.

The D.Z. case contains several Navaja and Talon knives along with the infamous Asiimov (AK-47). Many of these knives have either dark stained patterns, solid colors or gradient colors. In case you don’t remember or know what the Asiimov looks like, it’s the one with the bright orange colors complemented by a white base and streaks of black. If you prefer an AWP skin, the case also features the Neo-Noir, which uses gradient neon purple and pink colors.

Thanks to its low price, rare knives, and fabled AK skin, the Danger Zone Case is truly one of a kind.

The Stockholm Souvenir Packages were droppable cases upon completion of the PGL Stockholm 2021 Pick’em Challenge. Players would then purchase these packages with tokens for $2.99. Depending on the map chosen, players would receive a different package. For example, the Dust II collection features the highly coveted Gold Arabesque, SSG Death Strike (with a scorpion logo), and Case Hardened Mac-10.

Although it’s no longer available as a drop, what’s nice about these souvenir packages is that they don’t require a key.

But, if you prefer the Deagle Printstream, it’s currently worth up to ~$100 or so. As for the knives, many feature either solid, gradient or camouflage colors, along with spotted/web patterns. Some of them can go up to $1,000 or so.

Image
Body Image
Look out for the Desert Eagle | Cobalt Disruption + knives.

The Winter Case was introduced as part of the 2013 December update, with 12 Valve-made weapon skins. It is rumored that the case no longer drops in-game and therefore is only available via trade and the Steam Market. The main weapon attractions include the M4A4 X-Ray, Deagle Cobalt, AWP Electrive Hive, and FAMAS Afterimage. The Cobalt, for instance, features a sort of pixelated bright ocean blue pattern whereas the Electric hive uses a gradient blue, red, and purple honeycomb design. Knives vary, from the bulky Bayonet to sleek Karambit. Overall, knife patterns consist of rare gradient patterns, or case hardened, blood-red, spotted, and solid colors.

Weapon prices range from ~$.065 to $55. Knives range from ~$65 to $1,640. Skin rarity ranges from Mil-Spec to Covert to Melee Weapons.

As the name states, the F.C. focuses mostly on Falchion knives, along with a few high-tier weapon skins. Here, you can find the Hyper Beast AWP and Aquamarine Revenge AK-47. The Hyper Beast combines a dark sea green with a fiery magenta color, whereas the Aquamarine combines a light coral green with a dark orange color.  As for the knives, they generally have solid color or spotted designs, with a fade pattern mixed in. And compared to other knives, the Falchion is fairly small, but sleek nevertheless. They generally go up to ~$1,000 or so.

Look out for the AK-47 | Bloodsport/Empress + Butterfly knives.

The main highlight of the Spectrum Cases (1 or 2) are the knives. Particularly, the butterfly knives, such as the Doppler Sapphire/Ruby, and Marble Fade. These designs provide a radiance, shine, and array of colors like no other; as if you were staring deep into the ocean or lifeblood of a red gemstone. But, even if you don’t like them, they’re worth quite a lot, estimated at ~$1,000 or more! Other knives and prominent weapons in the Spectrum cases include the Bowie Knife, Falchion Knife, Huntsman Knife, Shadow Daggers, AK-47 Bloodsport, and The Empress. Both cases are fairly cheap too, ranging from ~$.025 to $.050.
