Horror?

Yes, really!

Well, if you go to the right place, that is. Thanks to the CS:GO community, horror-themed workshop maps are fairly common.

Some involve zombies, hiding, and shooting, while others focus on finding items and using objects to advance to the next room or stage.

Blood, dark skies, fleshly bodies, ghosts, and other unknown creatures are present throughout the maps. So why not give them a shot; I’ll even let you bring a friend or two.

10. Lake of Horror by Pinchi and XXX

Lake of Horror Gameplay

Zombies will chase you even in the water.

Lake of Horror is based on the original CS:GO map, Lake. Only this time, you’ll be facing 10 waves of zombies with a final boss called Zomboid. Throughout the map, you’ll see cars, vans, boxes, hay, and sheds. It’s a fairly huge map as you’re free to run around. Personally, it’s a nice change from smaller horror maps that don’t give you much breathing room.

Why Lake of Horror is Fun

• Large map with many objects, including cars, construction materials, rocks, dock, etc.
• Weapons are dispersed throughout the map
• Final boss, if you can make it

9. cs_horror2 by tATu

H2 Gameplay

Rumors say a ghost lives in the house.

Horror2 is located at a haunted house. Ct’s have to rescue the hostage (with a weapon of their choice) inside the home while T’s must prevent them from doing so. Throughout the map, you’ll see pumpkin scarecrows, lights, an underground tunnel, archaic trees, graveyards, and so on. You can also visit the balcony, roof or go inside the house, where you’ll see a warm fireplace, small dining tables, small bedrooms, etc. Despite its fairly small size, horror2 offers an exciting playground where encounters are swift and imminent.

• Small map makes it easier to navigate through
• Plenty of horror-themed objects, such as graveyards and pumpkin lights
• Forced to fight your way to the hostages, or defend what’s yours

8. CraZy by YarFunnyStar

CraZy Gameplay

 

I won't go crazy. I won't go crazy.

Unlike the other maps thus far, CraZy has no use for weapons. Instead, you must find your way out of the haunted house using clues and keys. On your way, you might see dead bodies, ghosts, blood, and zombies, all in a dark and gloomy atmosphere. Items are carefully hidden, so pay close attention to each and every object. Once you’ve made it out of the house, you’ll need to get out of the woods as well.

Why CraZy is Fun

• Objects are thoughtfully placed
• Ghosts and zombies are hidden throughout the map
• Bloody walls, dimmed lights, and overall atmosphere gives you the chills (a bit)

7. coop_mission_horror by Slush

c_m_p gameplay

Work together or die together. 

This map requires 2 people to win as you navigate through obstacles and zombies. Additionally, there are weapons you can pick up to defend yourself and clear paths. For example, while one person is fighting zombies, the other player looks for clues, codes, or items. The coop seems to be located inside a haunted warehouse or building, with boxes, tunnels, dead bodies, elevators, and so on. The map usually takes about 30 minutes (or less) to complete.

• Environment and scenery gives the map a bit of a spooky vibe, e.g. bloodly floors, ghosts, zombies, dead bodies, and an overall dark atmosphere

6. Day Of The Dead by Harry Poster

Day of The Dead Gameplay

You're gonna need a lot of keys.

For this map, you’ll make your way in and out of a haunted mansion. To do so, you’ll need to locate objects, break doors, find keys, etc. Even with plenty of rooms and objects to gaze upon, be wary of the unknown creatures that lurk. The dark ambient music also makes you feel like you're suffocating, with no time to spare. With only 3 days to survive for a large sum of cash, how bad then can it really be?

Why D.O.T.D. Is Fun

• Large mansion with plenty of objects and rooms to interact with
• Spend 3 nights at the mansion
• Dead bodies and spirits add to the overall scenery

5. Crazy 2 by YarFunnyStar

C2 Gameplay

The Fun continues.

This time, Crazy (map) offers jumpscares, a flashlight, a haunted chapel, underground tunnels, and much more. It’s not just the dark atmosphere that gives you chills, but the burning red lights that scream the blood of countless victims. Your goal is to find a way out, past the dead bodies and ghosts that follow you around. Sometimes you’ll need to find objects or numbers, or break stuff. See what awaits as you enter each door.

Why C2 is fun

• Spooky scavenger hunt
• Some jump scares
• Cool scenery and locations, such as the chapel, lobby, and office

4. coop_zombie_evasion by BeMasty/Sibuli

c_z_e Gameplay

Play with friends, shoot zombies, and have a good time.

Embark on a journey throughout the city as you clear waves of zombies. You’ll stop by a hospital, sewage, underground parking lot, tunnels, etc. Be careful though, because most of these zombies run fast and deal heavy damage. On your way to victory, you’ll also look for objects and pick up pistols, Ak-47’s, m4a1’s, etc. Seems like good aim practice when you’re constantly getting rushed by T’s, or zombies in this case.

• Big map with plenty of places to visit and mow down zombies
• Diverse locations and detailed objects, e.g., dirty sewage water and bloody bodies on the floor
• Play by yourself or with friends

3. Cemetery (Hide and Seek) by Апельсинка

Cemetery Gameplay

A playground for the Dead.

Cemetery is another fun map where you can hide in the gravestones, bushes, behind boxes, etc. Occasionally, you’ll see a ghost or spirit roaming around, but that’s normal for a place like this. Although fairly small, cemetery is well designed based on the tombstone’s details and grassy surface. There’s also an underground supply room and a small cabin out in the open. If you ever wanted to hide in a cemetery, then this map is for you.

Why Cemetery Is Fun

• Small map, so you won’t have too much trouble finding others
• “Scary” images/figures prevalent throughout the map
• Typical cemetery with dead bodies, gravestones, and spooky trees

2. Mirage Zombie Survival by Boombl4 (Link only for Night Version)

MZS Gameplay

Fight against zombies from an actual competitive map.

Not only are you forced to check angles and hidden spots from Mirage, but you’re required to do so in almost complete darkness, thanks to the fast and unfriendly zombies. For example, when you enter A main, the only light you’ll see is coming from Palace. There are various modes as well, including deathmatch, arms race, casual, etc. In arms race, you’ll start off with a knife and work your way up, as you kill zombies, or eventually become one. Additional decor was also placed around the original map, such as a computer desk, bloody walls, crates, and more (check the steam link if you want the night version, since there seems to be no video of it).

Why Mirage Zombie Survival (Night) is Fun

• Fight against zombies in the dark
• Practice checking angles and moving across Mirage
• Surrounded by utter darkness; given only a small flashlight

1. Saw

Saw Gameplay

I want to play a game.

Based on the franchise, Saw showcases dirty toilets, hanging animal bodies, skeletal remains, treacherous gadgets, and more. As you travel across the map, you’ll also see a checkered floor with dim lights, an animal slaughterhouse, and bloody bathrooms. If that’s not enough, Jigsaw (the killer) showcases dead human bodies throughout the floors. Although the map is moderate in size, there are still quite a few secrets within. Even if you don’t like the franchise or this particular map, I recommend checking out other similar maps for fans of CS:GO or horror.

Why Saw is Fun

• Based on the franchise (Jigsaw) and cinematography 
• Death seems to be a focal point of the map based on the bodies and horrific gadgets
• Lighting and shades of blood add to the overall depth of the map/scenery
