As you may know, Dead By Daylight is an asymmetrical 4 survivors versus 1 killer in a trial to outrun, outsmart, and outplay the opposing team. With both sides able to bring perks to spice up their playstyles and be rewarded with certain effects, today we’ll be looking at a survivor’s ability to allows them to outrun a killer, keeping them up to speed with one and allowing them to potentially keep the monsters who lurk in the trial away from their friends, and themselves. Here are some of the best Runner builds in Dead By Daylight.
5. Stun And Run
Starting off with a video by Youtuber and Stramer SpookyLoopz: The Stun and Run build is a more aggressive build than what one would expect from a runner’s build. The build’s value comes from the ability to hide into a locker during a chase, get a stun off of the killer, and disappear from their sight without leaving a trail. As shown and explained in the Video, YouTuber SpookyLoopz uses this build to escape when stunning with pallets, hopping into lockers, and gaining more value from his perk build by continuing with locker stuns. This build is ideal for someone who doesn’t want to lead killers around the entirety of the map and at the same time lose them.
What Stun and Run build excels in:
- Escaping from killers after a successful stun through the use of Parental Guidance.
- Hiding using lockers quickly in a chase when out of sight, with Head-On as a backup plan or to take the killer’s attention once more.
- Decisive Strike for the ability as a backup plan should the killer want you out of the game for the build.
Build Details:
- Parental Guidance - After stunning the Killer by any means, Parental Guidance suppresses your Scratch Marks, Pools of Blood, and Grunts of Pain for the next 5/6/7 seconds.
- Head On – An exhaustion perk that allows one to stun the killer using the locker doors by fast vaulting out of it after hiding inside for 3 seconds.
- Quick & Quiet – This perk allows for a fast vault or locker hiding without a loud noise notification, only carrying a cooldown of 30/25/20 seconds based on its level and allowing one to hide in lockers in complete silence.
- Decisive Strike – After getting off the hook, this perk allows a survivor to stun a killer for a few seconds should they be picked up within 40/50/60 seconds and have not performed a conspicuous action.
4. The Infinite Sprint Burst
In the video above, YouTuber Naymeti demonstrates the well-known “Infinite Sprint Burst” build were not technically infinite, it allows for a faster recovery of exhaustion while keeping up a faster-than-walking pace. This build requires good use of timing and knowing when to run and when not to run. As shown, players who know how to use Sprint Burst well would 99% of their exhaustion recovery, using a second or less of walking to completely recover and fire off their exhaustion once more, giving them a quick escape against a killer expecting an easy down. When all generators are completed during the chase, the build kicks in Adrenaline which allows you to escape with fast movement speed and heal your health state.
What Infinite Sprint Burst excels in:
- A quick way to get distance as soon as a chase approaches, allowing you to gain distance at the beginning of pursuit and even allowing you to escape mid-chase by preparing your sprint burst ahead of time.
- Walk at a faster pace than normal walking speed to aid with recovery, in addition to being able to see your scratch marks to know where you’re being tracked.
- Able to run the killer for potentially the entire game or until the last generator, getting quite a lot of distance at the end and healing one health state.
Build Details:
- Vigil – Grants an aura around you that increases your recovery rate from negative status effects by 20/25/30% for you and your teammates, helpful for exhaustion and exposure.
- Sprint Burst – An exhaustion perk triggered upon running, allowing you to run at 150% of your movement speed for 3 seconds and causing exhaustion for 60/50/40 seconds.
- Adrenaline – Upon all generators finishing, when applicable, heals a survivor for one health state and grants them 150% movement speed for 5 seconds regardless of exhaustion, causing exhaustion for 60/50/40 seconds.
- Fixated/Self-Aware – Allows a survivor to talk 10/15/20% faster and allows them to see their scratch marks.
3. Dance With Lithe
Youtuber and streamer Puppers shows us the effective combination of the right perks, activating it by a window vault and all perks working in tandem with each other, Dance With Lithe is a potent build for any runners in Dead By Daylight... Although more akin to a looping build, it is very viable for runners to keep the killer on their toes and avoid being caught early on. With the ability to gain distance with speed, no traces except for blood if wounded, and allowing for a quiet escape should the cards be played right, this build certainly can muddle plans that involve you being on a hook early on.
What Dance with Lithe excels in:
- A window vault to allow one to put a barrier between them and the killer with Lithe, placing a lot of distance between the chaser and chasee.
- The ability to vanish without scratch marks is invaluable, as this is the killer’s main way of tracking a survivor. One who can run out of sight while the effects are still active shouldn’t be surprised when a killer leaves them.
Build Details:
- Lithe – Upon rushed vaulting a window, increases a survivor’s movement speed for 3 seconds and causing exhaustion for 60/50/40 seconds.
- Dance With Me – After a rushed vault or quick leaving a locker, no scratch marks are leave for 3 seconds, with cooldowns of 60/50/40 seconds.
- Quick & Quiet – This perk allow for a fast vault or locker hiding without a loud noise notification, only carrying a cooldown of 30/25/20 seconds based on its level and allowing one to hide in lockers in complete silence.
- Iron Will – While wounded, grunts of pain are reduced by 50/75/100% to avoid giving away one’s position through sound.
2. The Vault Build
As shown in the video made by Youtuber PROBZZ, here’s a build that allows players to get over windows faster than the regular speed without the perks involved. These perks are to increase a survivor’s… Well, survivability of course, by upping the speed one goes through a window and narrowly escapes death.
Like the previous mention this build is fit for runners using window vaults, intended to keep the killer around loops with windows rather than outright lose with speed, bonus speed should one be injured.
What The Vault Build excels in:
- Allows for safer window looping, reaching through it faster than a killer would normally anticipate, and giving you more of a window of opportunity (another perk, unrelated) to position yourself correctly in a chase.
- Being wounded gives you a bonus to your vaulting speed in this case as well as enabling your exhaustion perk to act as an emergency life state to remove any potential mistake or outmaneuver the killer.
- Even while wounded, the benefits from Iron Will allow for more leniencies with hiding your location behind walls thanks to muting painful grunts and moans.
Build Details:
- Spine Chill – When the killer is within 36 meters of your location and looking at you, this perk activates to alert you while granting a 2/4/6% speed boost to nearly all actions.
- Resilience – While wounded, almost all actions are increased by 3/6/9% when in the injured state.
- Dead Hard – While wounded, hitting the activate ability button allows for a player to dash forward and avoid all damage temporarily, causing exhaustion for 60/50/40 seconds.
- Iron Will – While wounded, grunts of pain are reduced by 50/75/100% to avoid giving away one’s position through sound.
1. Overcome and Lithe
Once more looking at the youtuber and popular DBD streamer SpookyLoopz, we have a build fit for dedicated runners and experienced loopers alike, this time with a double exhaustion perk which is always handy for its versatility given that many situations survivors can find themselves in with a killer in hot pursuit.
What Overcome and Lithe excels in:
- Double exhaustion perk allows a survivor to make up for the lack of one trigger by relying on another – meaning a survivor can use Lithe to escape or rely on Overcome upon being wounded to gain massive distance as their exhaustion perk.
- Keeps a survivor well supplied with information about pallets and windows they can use to temporarily stop an encroaching killer, and stay ahead of a chase.
- Allows for a faster recovery of exhaustion (and any other temporary negative status effects) should the killer catch up with a survivor after their escape.
Build Details:
- Overcome – When wounded by mainly the killer or their abilities, you maintain a 2-second additional speed boost in addition to your regular movement boost when harmed, receiving exhaustion for 60/50/40 seconds.
- Lithe – Upon rushed vaulting a window, increases a survivor’s movement speed for 3 seconds and causes exhaustion for 60/50/40 seconds.
- Windows of Opportunity – The aura of breakable walls, pallets, and windows are shown to you within a 24/28/32 meter range.
- Vigil – Grants an aura around you that increases your recovery rate from negative status effects by 20/25/30% for you and your teammates, helpful for exhaustion and exposed debuffs.
So far, these are of the many builds one can create to run the killer through the entirety of the map, keeping them sharp or else they risk losing the game. We do encourage researching perks and figuring out what works best for you, but don’t feel free to be shy about trying these out. Do note at the time of writing, a perk rework is scheduled to drop, changing how some of these perks work and requiring a bit of adjustment in tactics.
