9. The Forest
The scary but brilliant struggle for survival in The Forest.
The Forest is a game that is never boring. Not even for a second. It is perverse and not for the lighthearted as it delves into themes of abuse, cannibalism, and what it truly means to survive in a meaningless world. The game puts you in the shoes of a father who’s crash-landed on a mysterious island. Your job is to survive long enough to find your son, as well as the other passengers of the plane, which is easier said than done. Not only do you have to contend with your hunger, thirst, and stamina, but bloodthirsty tribes of cannibals are roaming these woods as well. If you’re someone who spends a lot of time out in the woods of Hope County and loves the thrill of a sudden bear or cougar attack, this game is one you’ll sink your teeth into. Just be sure nothing sinks its teeth into you first…
8. Wolfenstein: The New Colossus
Hitler couldn't stand a chance against Blazkowicz and crew.
"B.J." Blazkowicz awakens from the coma he succumbed to in the aftermath of surviving a near-fatal explosion. Recruiting new members to the resistance along the way, Blazkowicz and his group intend to assassinate prominent leaders in the Nazi regime to bring the public conscious into the idea of liberty and freedom, thus urging everyone to rise against the hefty powers who are running the government. The overlaps in comradery amongst your fellow fighters against the those in charge makes this a Far Cry based Nazi game and a hell of a good time.
7. Batman Arkham Series
Become the bat and fight for the honor of Gotham from the shadows.
When it comes to vigilantes, of course Batman could take down the Seeds with his hands tied behind his back. (Might be a bit hard for him with the “no guns” schtick but…) This series takes you through many different open world game play scenarios where you use stealth, fear and a variety of amazing weapons and vehicles to help the people of the city. So lose the Far Cry 5 cop outfit and get behind the mask, it’s time for you to trade Hope County for Gotham.
6. GTA V
Five times the chaos in this GTA, that's for sure.
The story of three criminals as they commit insane yet genius heists across the sprawling city of Los Santos. When the trio meet up, they plan a string of heists and robberies that will set them for life. Daring and insane, the three slowly descend into a downward spiral of death and deception in the city of Los Santos. This game gives us a vibe for a villain origin story similar to the Seeds and allows you the opportunity to play for the bad guys in whichever way you deem fit. If you spent a lot of time out on the road in Far Cry 5, get ready to use those driving and shooting skills.5. Fallout Series
The same great Fallout with a '76 twist.
With each Fallout game comes a new post-apocalyptic hellscape of a storyline, but all the games are connected through a theme of complicated history of wars, various groups looking to control the world, and hard choices to make for the greater good (or yourself, should you wish to be a selfish gamer). The quests in the unknown territory with enemies coming from each new direction gives big Far Cry 5 vibes. Also, they have the second cutest dog companion to Boomer, affectionately named…. Dogmeat.
4. Just Cause Series
An incredible game to play and not "just cause".
The Just Cause series are all open world and primarily take place in islands and archipelagos. Each game in the series tasks the player to overthrow the governing body of the game's setting. Yes, we’re really sticking with the theme of overthrowing a party in power…. it’s what the Seeds would (wouldn’t) want. The action in this game closely resembles that of Far Cry 5 and also has a great variety of weapons that you’ll be familiar with from your days in Hope County, which you can reminisce on as you bring down each new party in power that resembles those dastardly Seeds.
3. Uncharted Series
The chaotic paths and treasures of this storyline can label your journey on as "uncharted".
Albeit in this author’s opinion a terrible movie remake (YES TOM HOLLAND I SAID WHAT I SAID), this video game series is sure to entertain you to the max. The series follows the adventures of treasure hunter and fortune seeker Nathan Drake as he sets off to uncover the truths behind numerous mythical treasures and lost cities, resulting in clashes with rival hunters and thieves. We see a lot of female heroes in this, resembling our wonderful Jess Black and Grace Armstrong, as well as a lot of outpost situations that bring your Far Cry 5 abilities full circle. Just keep in mind the treasure here tends to be old artifacts and NOT bobbleheads, which are worth more depending on who you’re talking to….
2. Tomb Raider Series
Laura Croft braves ancient ruins, foes and female gender roles in this incredible treasure hunting game.
This series of games focuses on the fictional British archaeologist Lara Croft, a world-renowned traveler of the world who follows in her father’s footsteps searching for lost artifacts while infiltrating dangerous tombs and ruins. Gameplay generally focuses on exploration of environments, solving puzzles, navigating hostile environments filled with traps, and fighting enemies. The only woman of the bow who could maybe compete with Jess Black, our lovely Laura Croft. Maybe they should go out on an adventure together? Discover the treasures of Hope County? Destroy the Peggies of an unexplored island? I’ll have to contact Ubisoft and Crystal Dynamics with this….
1. Red Dead Redemption 2
Arthur Morgan headlines the greatest gunslinging video game to exist.
We’ve made the comparison before and we will make it again: Hope County is really just a land of more modern gunslingers. In this installment of Red Dead, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee from the town of Blackwater after their robbery goes sideways. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, their gang with Arthur and the infamous Dutch must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. A must play for the graphics alone, the beauty of this game is unmatched by many. Lots of open world play with a variety of side quests, this game allows you to decide what type of cowboy you want to be, similar to the cop’s dilemma you face in Hope County. Just a quick reminder, there were no SMGs in the wild wild west, so get used to working with limited ammo…..
