In recent years, sim racing has gained a deserving amount of popularity in the gaming world. The feeling of driving your favorite car in the world’s most coveted tracks flat out is a feeling that cannot be compared to. There have been many great racing titles that have captured the realism and immersion in various ways, but none of them have lived up to the heights of the Gran Turismo series. The series has been a pioneer in the racing genre for decades, and with its latest installment, Gran Turismo Sport, it continues to innovate. The game is different from past games in that it focuses on online multiplayer racing events against other players instead of single-player races. This makes it extremely important to have a car that can not only keep up but also take the competition down. The series has gained popularity due to it being friendly towards newcomers to the world of sim racing too. It has garnered increased attention from fans as well as motorsport enthusiasts and professional drivers from all over the world. It has been officially certified by the motorsport governing body, the FIA as a proper esports game and even has earned its status as an Olympic event!

So, with everything going on with the game, there is no better time to rank the top 10 best cars in the game. Now it is really hard to classify the top 10, because there are more than 300 cars in different classes in the game, so the list is how well I, personally along with overall driver reception define the cars and their drivability, looks, sounds and performance in both the online and arcade mode with and without Balance of Performance (BOP). So, let’s get started!

10. Porsche 919 Hybrid

Porsche 919 Hybrid Gammeplay

The 919 Hybrid is the first choice for many when they have enough credits to buy a Gr.1 car. This LMP1 car won the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship in 2016 where the #1 car finished 4th and the #2 cars finished 1st overall in the Drivers’ Championship. The total power of the car is 887 HP of which 493 HP is delivered from the rear axle and 395 HP from the back axle. The engine is a 2-liter V4 mounted in the middle.

The 919 is great if you want to drive in endurance races as it’s ERS is really efficient in the straights. You’ll never run out of that extra charge while using it in tracks like Le Mans and Spa and it is really fast in the corners. Plus, due to its easy handling it is also useful in online races with BoP. It also has great visibility due to its high seat position. While it is slightly weak in qualifying, overall, it is the most rational choice for the best Gr.1 Car.

9. Red Bull X2019 Competition

Red Bull X2019 Competition Gameplay

Gran Turismo and Red Bull have a long-standing partnership that produced the hypothetical concept cars, of which the most recent is the Red Bull X2019. This single seater car is based on the concept of a racing car free from all regulations and rules and only has pure performance and speed.

This car differs from other cars in the game as it is in a league of its own. The handling and drivability of this car might not suit your needs at first but once you get used to it, it is perfect. It has a V10 engine and can do about 320 kmh so it is very very fast. If you want to drive a bull in a racing game, well you have it.

8.Porsche 911 RSR

Porsche 919 RSR Gameplay

In the game, the Gr.3 class is based on the GT3 and GTE class, so I have to pick the Porsche because it is extremely great to drive and a dependable car overall. This car was Porsche’s answer to the GTE class in the Endurance Championship and IMSA. The car produces around 500 HP from its naturally aspirated V6 engine.

Now, the stock setup of the car works well, but not great. So, you need to adjust everything to match your racing style. The ride height and aerodynamics are typically where I would focus on while taking this car out for a drive-in challenging track like Spa or Monza, and oh boy, it’s very frustrating to get it precise. But when it does click, you can’t be happier. I’d recommend using it in the online mode specifically because with a great setup you can achieve great results both in qualifying and the race.

7.Toyota TS050 Hybrid

Toyota TS050 Gameplay

The TS050 was Toyota’s 2016 attempt to finally achieve success in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Although the #5 car lead for the majority of the race, the car broke down in the final minutes of the race in a dramatic fashion. The #6 finished the race in 2nd overall. Nevertheless, it won the coveted race for the first time in 2018, two years after its debut, and has won it consecutively ever since. It has a 2.4 L V6 engine and boasts a total of 506 HP.

The TS050 is great if your focus is fuel economy throughout an endurance race. This gives it an edge over the other competitors in the same class. It also is aerodynamically really efficient in tracks like Le Mans and Monza, especially in the high-speed corners. This is the preferred car in qualifying for me personally and also other drivers obviously due to its ERS system and in turn, it gives great lap times.

6. McLaren F1 GTR- BMW ’95

McLaren F1 GTR '95 Gameplay

Nothing gives me more excitement of driving a race car than the F1 GTR. The car is the GTR spec of McLaren's first road car the F1 and it took victory in its first attempt at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car is legendary in its own right while also giving you a proper challenge to drive it. The engine, provided by BMW, is a 6.1L V12 and gives around 630 HP.

I drive the car mainly for its nostalgic value and also due to its amazing acceleration. The top speed of this car clocks around 300 kmh in the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans and boy, oh boy, was it an experience. The car, although slow in a corner, can make up time in the straights if you handle it correctly. All in all, it is a great car if you want to have some fun in the game.

5. Ferrari F50

Ferrari F50 Gameplay

The attention to details of the F50 in this game is mind-blowing. The rosso Corsa paint scheme looks majestic as it should. The F50 is the only sports car in Gran Turismo to feature a F1 V12 Engine reminiscent of the Ferrari 641 F1 car in 1990.

The handling of this car is quite difficult as its real-life counterpart. But once you tune it to your likings it will give you all that you want and more. The top speed clocks around 340 kmh and it is exquisite. It literally is an F1 car in a sports car’s body. If you want to drive it traditionally, why not take it around Monza to test its supremacy? And did I mention how majestic it looks?

4. Mazda 787B

Mazda 787B Gameplay

Mazda and Wankel Engines go hand in hand. If you’re a racing fan you know how awesome they sound, and you know that nothing sounds better than the 787B. The 4 rotor Wankel gave a max power of 690 HP and it led to Mazda becoming the first Japanese manufacturer to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991.

The handling is supreme and fun. It doesn’t waste any time while cornering especially in the Le Mans and Monza. If you want to have fun in arcade mode with a roaring engine, this is the car. I’d avoid it in online mode as it is probably the slowest of the Gr.1 cars in the game. But nevertheless, this car is legendary, and you should drive it in the game. Hear the car roar and you won’t be disappointed!

3. Mercedes-AMG F1 W08 EQ+

Mercedes AMG F1 Gameplay

The Mercedes F1 W08 is the only licensed F1 car in the game. The W08 led Lewis Hamilton to his 4th F1 Drivers’ title and along with Valtteri Bottas, led Mercedes to their 4th consecutive Constructors’ title in 2017. The W08 has a V6 Turbo Hybrid engine and a total power of 890 HP.

The car is the quickest of all the open seaters in the game but has limited modification options. You can use it in the Arcade mode or take part in the W08 series on various tracks. Although it has different color schemes, you cannot put your own livery on it due to licensing issues. Nevertheless, if you want to take a taste of modern F1, this your only option and honestly, it delivers well.

2. Gran Turismo F1500T-A

F1500T-A Gameplay

If you want to relive the glory days of F1 in the 1980s, well the F1500T-A has got you covered. The car produces a staggering 986 HP and revs at 11,000 RPM. Spending your credits on it is a worthy investment and you’ll still want more.

You can modify and tune it according to your need and believe me, it is fantastic to drive it. This is a different kind of beast compared to other vehicles in the game. The sound of 20 cars revving has got no comparison. It truly is one of a kind. If you’re a new player I recommend getting this car and taking it for a drive around Suzuka or Monza. Your mind will be blown.

1. SRT Tomahawk X VGT

SRT Tomahawk X VGT Gameplay

Ever wanted to drive a fighter jet on a road? The SRT Tomahawk Concept will see to that no problem. The car is the epitome of performance and pushes limits to the extreme and beyond. It boasts a V10 engine and has a total power of 2586 HP. It is literally the fastest car in the game and in the whole series. If you have enough credits, this is the one.

When you look at it, you think that it’s a freak of nature. It is a freak, but a freak of exceptional technological advancement and modern engineering. Physically it is impossible to drive this concept car without a specialized suit as it can reach a top speed of around 750 km h. It excels in all aspects of driving and racing and so that’s why it’s the best car you can drive in the game.
