Phasmophobia is a game that set the bar for a new subgenre of co-op horror gaming. Whether you want to see some good co-op horror games or some nice ghost-hunting games - here are 10 games that are similar to Phasmophobia.
10. Ghost Hunter Corp
Ghost Hunters Corp is a game in which you enter a haunted house to discover and exorcise the ghost that’s wandering its halls. The game is however in very early access so you should maybe wait a bit longer before playing it and judging it too harshly.
Ghost Hunter Corp takes the fun things from Phasmophobia and adds its spin on them. The ghosts are aggressive, even deciding to chase you out of the house at times. There are a lot of interesting items and we can probably expect a lot of new things to be introduced as the game keeps progressing in its development.
9. Labyrinthine
Labyrinthine is a game in which you explore an overgrown hedge maze by yourself or with up to 3 more players. Whichever choice you make, you won’t be alone in the maze. Labyrinthine offers some classic horror game gameplay. You run around and collect items and solve puzzles while trying to avoid the creepy monsters in the dark.
The game is in early access but it still has a load of content. Using a maze as the setting of the game is very novel and makes you always feel lost and confused. The game’s co-op is great and it’s a lot of fun to navigate the maze and avoid the monsters when you’re not alone.
8. Devour
In Devour, you play as a cultist who must complete a ritual to free your fellow cultists from Azazel's control. Because the game is demanding and needs coordination with your teammates, you can invite your buddies or join someone to play online.
There are several maps to complete, each with its own set of creatures to avoid and items to acquire. The gameplay is straightforward: collect 10 artifacts necessary to finish the ritual (some of which may be alive and moving away from you) while avoiding monsters. The monster designs are very amazing and terrifying, and they are without a doubt my favorite aspect of the game.
7. Sign Of Silence
After your car breaks down near a little town in the woods. You've been left stranded and in desperate need of assistance. You and your buddies must work together to make it through the dark woods to the small town of Danville, but you'll soon discover that you're not alone, and you're certainly not safe.
This is a brief game in which you and your friends must navigate a dark woodland while evading creatures. There are various endings in the game, and it's fun to play an exploration horror game with other people rather than alone. There are a variety of monsters, each of which is unique and exciting, making exploring the forest a skill-based and nerve-racking experience.
6. Bigfoot
Instead of trying to uncover who’s the ghost in a haunted house, our protagonist is trying to prove that the titular monster is not just a myth but rather a harsh reality. Bigfoot is a co-op game in which you have multiple ways to hunt down and bring an end to the big monster.
Bigfoot is similar to Phasmophobia mostly in the fact that it’s a co-op horror game. The similarities are quite few, but Bigfoot is still a game that’s worth your time. You have a variety of weapons and traps which require strategic placement and you’re expected to be careful about everything you do since defeating Bigfoot is not an easy task.
5. The Blackout Club
The Blackout Club is a gang of kids that spend their nights exploring the little town, trying to figure out what's causing the strange "blackout" phenomenon. Everyone gets out of bed and sleepwalks every night. And now one of their buddies has gone missing during one of these blackouts, making the situation not only strange but also hazardous.
The Blackout Club is an excellent horror co-op game. You and up to three companions are tasked with exploring a small suburban neighborhood and completing procedurally generated activities to learn more about your friend's disappearance or to prove that this phenomenon is harmful. This isn't a serious game, but it does provide a lot of low-commitment entertainment by allowing you to create your character.
4. Pacify
Pacify is another game in which you play as a paranormal investigator stuck in some scary situations. Pacify has multiple levels you can play and it’s regularly updated by its developers. Pacify is a bit scarier and less lighthearted than Phasmophobia but the vibe is still quite similar.
The different levels all have different ghosts you will encounter. You have to avoid them while they are aggressive and ultimately find a way to “capture” them. The game has a single-player mode but it can also be played with friends.
3. Forewarned
Forewarned is a game with very similar gameplay to Phasmophobia. You play as an archeologist that is exploring the ancient tombs and accidentally uncovering ancient evils. You will have to escape the monsters that lurk in the tombs after finding the relic if you wish to survive.
Like in Phasmophobia there are many monsters that lurk around and do different things which can help you uncover their identity. Uncovering the identity before the final stretch of the game in which you are running from the evil “mejai” is key to the game.
2. Obsideo
Obsideo is a game that takes a lot of the concepts that made Phasmophobia good and tries to continually add on to that format to make the game even better. While the game is still in early access, it already has a lot of things you can play around with and it’s constantly getting patched.
This game has a bit of a creepier tone than Phasmophobia and it also has a gameplay feature that makes a big difference. After finding out what the ghost is, you also have to find out how to exorcise it. This is a great feature that can make the game stand its ground as it slowly gets more updates.
1. Haunt Chaser
Haunt Chaser is another game in which you fiddle with paranormal ghosts. It has 1 season released - which starts the story, but soon enough Haunt Chaser will keep getting patches and updates and will become a bigger and better game. The game looks beautiful even now, although it’s at the beginning of its journey.
The game can be played as a single-player experience, co-op with up to 4 people, or as an asymmetrical one where 4 people control the humans and the 5th controls the monster. The game looks great, has an interesting story and it will keep getting updates and it makes me look forward to seeing more ghosts that will be released.
