Thinking of buying Marvel's Avengers? Here's what you should know before you make a purchase.
10. Characters coming in the future
One thing players can agree with when thinking of an Avengers game is what characters you can play. You have Captain America, the leader. Iron Man, the brains. Hulk, the brawn. Thor, the god. With Marvel’s Avengers, you get to play as these characters while waiting for others.
In the beginning, Crystal Dynamics introduced the Hawkeye Duo, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop via Operations, then Black Panther in the War for Wakanda expansion. For PlayStation players, you would have Spider-Man come in via Hero Event.
While it does take a while for heroes to come up, Crystal Dynamics realizes that people want more characters to play as, and have shifted their focus into bringing in more characters that fit into the story the game is telling.
9. Free content drops
Before Marvel’s Avengers release, Crystal Dynamics promised players that future content drops would be free. You won’t have to pay for any new gamemode or story DLC, as they will provide such content for free when it’s available.
The content would range from free heroes, free missions, and some free skins. While the marketplace is their only source of income in order to continue supporting the game, it seems to be doing well as Crystal Dynamics has announced Jane Foster’s Thor as the new character to arrive.
8. Only microtransactions in the game are just cosmetics
While the game does receive free content drops, there are some content that are locked behind the marketplace. Takedowns, emotes, nameplates, and skins. The most popular being the skins, as Crystal Dynamics releases a new skin weekly.
These skins can range from comics skins to MCU skins that players purchase once they release during the reset. If you don’t want to pay full price for such cosmetics though, the marketplace frequently goes on sale, allowing players to buy skins and other cosmetics for half the price.
7. You can play with friends
The big selling point of Marvel’s Avengers is being able to play as different Avengers with your friends. You can play as the Incredible Hulk, wreaking havoc while your friend plays Thor, raining down thunder from the sky.
Being able to play with different Avengers with different people can lead to a development of friendships and comradery, which is the beauty behind Marvel’s Avengers.
6. You can play solo
If you prefer to play solo, however, the game gives you that option. You don’t have to worry about playing missions with other players and having to deal with waiting for players to come in. Instead, you can just jump into the mission directly with AI.
5. Each Avenger plays differently
The greatest strength of Marvel’s Avengers is the gameplay, specifically on how each character plays. While the gameplay loop of Marvel’s Avengers can be repetitive and it does turn players away from the game, players will agree that playing as the different Avengers is the saving grace of Marvel’s Avengers.
Being able to throw Captain America’s shield, to blasting enemies with Iron Man’s Unibeam. Each Avenger is carefully crafted to be different from each other, so that players can have a character they can gravitate to.
4. Challenging content like the raid and OLT’s
While Marvel’s Avengers is certainly lacking in content, Crystal Dynamics has promised to add more content to the game, especially endgame content. Players agree that being able to fight stronger enemies to challenge themselves is one of the most asked content.
Marvel’s Avengers delivers said challenging content with Omega Level Threat missions and the Discordant Sound raid. Both missions require a full team of four players, all with high Power Level.
3. Build your Avengers the way you want them to play
Character builds are a popular trend in games that feature perks and loot. Marvel’s Avengers features such gameplay, allowing players to build the Avengers to their playstyle.
Some players build their Captain America to deal one shot damage with his shield, some build their Hawkeye to deal high melee damage with his sword. Players can spend countless hours in building the perfect version of their favorite characters.
2. Events that allow you to get great rewards
In Marvel’s Avengers, you can receive powerful rewards from events that allow you to raise your Power Level without having to play through OLT or the raid.
The game gives you a series of objectives to complete, and completing those objectives grants you powerful gear that will either be used to replace your current gear, or increase your current gears Power Level.
1. Ever evolving story
Marvel’s Avengers story is ever evolving past the Reassemble campaign. The threat doesn’t end with MODOK, and Crystal Dynamics has teased players with a war that will fight the Kree.
The story is on par with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and you can tell that Crystal Dynamics is trying to set up their own Endgame with each new Operation and character being added to the game.
