Got the skills of a samurai? Then show it off with the longsword!
The longsword is Monster Hunter Rise’s premier melee weapon and by far its flashiest. It has been at the forefront of weapon tier lists, whilst being both beginner-friendly and rich with complexity.
It then comes as no surprise that the longsword is, by far, the most popular weapon in all of Monster Hunter Rise.
So many are their numbers that longsword players have managed to compile resources and create a community of their own. Because of this, there are many ideas on what to build and how to play, but they are often scattered and difficult to find for hunters that are just beginning their journey.
With that in mind, we at Gamersdecide have created this list to let you know the best tools available to a longsword user.
Without further adieu, these are the top five longswords in Monster Hunter Rise as of version 3.9!
5. Rampage Blade S
Rampage Blade S with the Kamura S armor set
To start the list we have one of the most popular longswords in the game, for very unorthodox reasons.
The Rampage S Blade is the best weapon on this list for fashion purposes. That’s right, fashion. This sword can be matched with any armor you want by layering it. This process allows the Rampage S Blade to mimic the look of any sword.
Although it is indeed very fashionable, the Rampage S Blade also possesses a high base attack. It can also be beefed up even further with the help of rampage skills.
To obtain this weapon, you must play through all Apex rampages repeatedly until you earn enough materials. You may also wait until HR 100 to be able to hunt Apex monsters in isolation.
Weapon Stats:
- Attack: 210
- Element: None
- Affinity: 0%
- Decoration Slots: None
- Sharpness: High blue
What makes Rampage Blade S a perfect slice:
- High base attack.
- Fashionable.
4. Reddnaught Blade
Reddnaught Blade with the Valstrax armor set
Being a weapon obtained from the final boss of Monster Hunter Rise, the Reddnaught blade is easily one of the best longswords in the entire game.
This weapon boasts a sharpness level so high that it is capable of around 90 hits of white sharpness. This is a feat achieved without the aid of handicraft, which is just absurd.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Reddnaught blade is also capable of dealing serious dragon elemental damage. This makes it the perfect weapon for hunting down elder dragons.
Weapon Stats:
- Attack: 180
- Element: Dragon 39
- Affinity: 0%
- Decoration Slots: 1x lvl 2
- Sharpness: High white
What makes Reddnaught Blade a perfect slice:
- Dragon elemental damage.
- Highest longsword sharpness.
3. Deepest Night
Deepest Night with the Nargacuga armor set
At first glance, the Deepest Night might seem like something to be easily scoffed at if one were to simply look at the base attack. But what this blade lacks in raw power, it makes up for in affinity and sharpness.
With three points in master’s touch, the Deepest Night is capable of reaching around 150 hits with white sharpness.
To top that off, it can easily reach 100% affinity with a proper build. This means that in terms of effectiveness, the initial base attack of this weapon is doubled, if not tripled with critical boost.
This weapon is also one of the easiest to obtain. All you need to start farming this sword is to reach HR 6, where you will encounter the high-rank Nargacuga.
Weapon Stats:
- Attack: 180
- Element: None
- Affinity: 40%
- Decoration Slots: 1x lvl 2
- Sharpness: High white
What makes Deepest Night a perfect slice:
- Incredible affinity.
- High sharpness.
- Easy to obtain.
2. Tigrine Need
Tigrine Need with the Tigrex armor set
Making its way up to second on this list is the Tigrine Need.
The first thing you will notice is that this sword has an absurd amount of base attack.
The high base attack alone is enough to make this sword the second-best in nearly all categories. But unfortunately, the praise for this weapon stops here.
With a negative -20% affinity, the Tigrine Need is in dire need of affinity boosting skills. This alone is enough to limit its potential.
The Tigrine Need can be obtained at HR 30. You are going to need to farm the Tigrex unlocked at HR 7, and the Kushala Daora unlocked at HR 30.
Weapon Stats:
- Attack: 230
- Element: None
- Affinity: -20%
- Decoration Slots: None
- Sharpness: High white
What makes Tigrine Need a perfect slice:
- Highest base attack.
- High sharpness.
1. Phantom Mirage
Phantom Mirage with a customized Ibushi armor set
By far the best sword in Monster Hunter Rise is the Phantom Mirage.
Having only 10 attack stat below the Tigrine Need and having a 15% affinity makes the Phantom Mirage a clear superior to its competitor.
The only thing the Tigrine Need has over it is sharpness. But this can easily be remedied with a few points in either master’s tough or protective polish.
Going down the route of protective polish allows the Phantom Mirage to have the highest effective raw damage for all longswords, but what you gain in damage you sacrifice inconvenience.
Whatever build you choose to go for, the Phantom Mirage is never the wrong choice.
At HR 20, you will unlock the Elder Dragon, Chameleos, who will then drop parts for this weapon. Unfortunately, you will also have to wait for HR 100 to unlock Crimson Glow Valstrax, who also drops the materials needed for this weapon.
Weapon Stats:
- Attack: 220
- Element: None
- Affinity: 15%
- Decoration Slots: 1x lvl 2, 2x lvl 1
- Sharpness: High Blue
What makes Phantom Mirage a perfect slice:
- High affinity.
- High base attack.
- Versatile builds.
