[Top 10] Nintendo Switch Successor: Features We Want

The Nintendo Switch OLED was only the first step

10. Keep It Switch

The “Switch” factor was definitely one of the key points that made the Nintendo Switch become the industry monster that it’s today; I find it really difficult for Nintendo to go back to those days in which they had both a portable and home console, so the safe decision would be to keep it switch.

9. GameCube Games

I’m pretty sure I can speak for thousands of Nintendo fans that we’d love to have the amazing GameCube library available to play on our Super Nintendo Switches (or maybe Nintendo Switch 2?) either by having to pay for them in a Virtual Console style system or may be included with our NSO life-lasting subscriptions (more on that on point 5)

8. Better Joy-Cons

It’s a secret to no one that the first generation of Joy-Cons had issues and very big ones for some people. The infamous “Joy-Con Drift” hasn’t probably been addressed properly by Nintendo due to their lawyers telling them not to do it, but if we indeed get a New Nintendo Switch (I’m trademarking these names, I swear) we hope to get once again the durable hardware we were used to getting from Nintendo a couple of decades ago.

7. Headset Compatibility

I’m not tech-savvy, but I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be that complicated to add headset compatibility to the Nintendo Switch successor instead of the annoying voice chat our NSO subscription app offers right now. I mean, Bluetooth is already in there, right?

6. More Power!

The OG Nintendo Switch is powerful; I don’t care if people say it’s early PS4 graphics on a handheld but bear in mind that the whole power of Nintendo’s star machine is in a thin 7-inch (for the OLED model) tablet. The only thing I’m pretty sure third-party developers and Nintendo themselves would benefit from is a little bit of extra power. We’re not asking for a PS5 or Xbox Series X performance, but it would be amazing to have steady 60fps on all titles, and a better resolution for games to look the best they could.

5. Improved NSO

Nintendo Switch Online has become a great deal ever since the Expansion Pack tier was added since it’s offering some really nice DLCs and a great selection of Nintendo 64 titles; and while legacy content is welcome, Nintendo REALLY needs to do something about online multiplayer. Yeah, it’s cheap when compared to Sony’s and Microsoft’s offers, but that doesn’t mean online gameplay has to be such a shitty experience, especially in competitive games like Super Smash Bros.

4. Streetpass

One of Nintendo’s biggest accomplishments in the Nintendo 3DS was the Streetpass functionality; it was basically a reward for carrying your handheld console with you all around the city. And if Nintendo actually keeps the portability on the next Nintendo Switch, I don’t see why a simple and heartwarming feature like Streetpass couldn’t be included.

3. Longer Battery Life

Lighter and thinner are widespread common and almost required features on every single portable device in the tech world, but I don’t think that’s something that Nintendo should have to follow, especially if that means a bigger and better battery. Longer battery life would be perfect for those who love to use their Nintendo Switch in handheld mode, and while the current system doesn’t necessarily have a bad battery life, a couple of extra hours would be well received.

2. Retrocompatibility

The original Wii could play Gamecube games; the entire Nintendo 3DS family of systems was able to play Nintendo DS cartridges. If the Nintendo Switch successor keeps the ‘switch’ factor, it would be wonderful to be able to play our existing library of games on the next-gen Nintendo console.

1. 4K & 1080p

It’s been a while since rumors of a 4K Nintendo Switch model started popping out all over the internet; I don’t think it’s a matter of “is it going to happen?” but when; and it’s more than obvious that Nintendo is keeping that functionality for their Nintendo Switch successor and we couldn’t be more excited for that since 4K TVs are widespread nowadays. A 1080p resolution on handheld mode could be a lot to ask for, especially if we want more power and better battery life, but there’s nothing to lose if we add it to our wishlist.
