Fishing can offer you several things as you explore the world of RDO. First, it offers food which you can cook to keep those health and stamina cores full. Second, and easily overlooked, catching fish raises your max health until you reach the cap. It is a great side activity to quite literally make your character stronger. Finally, it is a viable money maker if you know a few things.
In terms of making money, there are specific types of fish you want to target. These “money-making fish” include all the medium size fish: Sockeye Salmon, Steelhead Trout, Largemouth Bass, and Smallmouth Bass. You can catch and hold up to 10 per species (20 if you progress through the Trader role) and they sell for between $2.00 and $2.50. Large fish (Channel Catfish, Longnose Gar, Lake Sturgeon, Muskie, and Northern Pike) sell for more individually, but you can only carry one at a time and they take a long time to catch.

Its proximity to Strawberry makes it a great option to not just fish but to make some serious money while you're doing it. You can quickly fill your inventory and then make a brief journey to sell your fish in town. You might also be able to snag some valuable beaver pelts in between fighting muskies.

If you find yourself in New Austin and want to make a few quick bucks, this fishing spot is your best bet.
