Titanfall 2 Best Titans (Ranked)

Titanfall 2 had a massive resurgence of players at the beginning of September 2022, reaching a peak player count of 21,000 at one point, briefly overtaking other Triple A First-Person Shooter behemoths such as ARMA 3, and Battlefield 5. The newfound interest in Titanfall 2 was thanks in part to the Steam Sale, which pushed the price of the game to $4.79. These two factors successfully attracted both new players and dedicated veterans back into the game.

Despite strangely never achieving the mainstream legacy and reputation it deserves, Titanfall 2 has been an FPS underdog since its inception. No other game gives the player the feeling of true mobility and skill expression in a multiplayer arena setting. Wall running while activating your speed boost to catch the enemy pilot around the corner, or executing a cross-map grappling hook to flank multiple pilots with your Spitfire LMG is a satisfaction that no other game can replicate.

As a new player, pilot on pilot combat follows the modern shooter formula of fast Time-To-Kill Call Of Duty formula with all weapons being balanced and viable. Once a certain time has been reached, pilots have the opportunity to call in their titans. These titans are, by design, insanely overpowered to the point where only other titans can kill another titan, and incredibly fun as a result. For new players, choosing 1 of 7 titans all with their own meta kits and loadouts can be an information overload as each titan is distinct to each other, coupled with the many choices of loadout options, some new players may stick only to the default Ion as she is marketed as the beginner titan.

In this article, the titans will be ranked by their combat ability. This does not mean that the lowest or highest ranked titans are superior to others; rather, all titans are viable as long as you play to their strengths. Titanfall 2 is ultimately a casual game meant to be played for fun. There is no professional league and only minimal skill-based matchmaking.

7. Scorch

Although she is placed at the bottom of the list, Scorch should never be underestimated, especially in close quarters combat. Scorch’s tankiness and huge burst damage can easily make quick work of any titan or pilot.

Armed with a Titan’s version of a flare gun, which functions less as a primary and more as a method to carpet surfaces with thermite. Her ordinance deploys a small wall of fire that travels in the direction Scorch is looking. Similar in design to Caustic’s gas traps in Apex Legends, Scorch’s tactical throws down a barrel of gas, which can be ignited to spread fire in an area by his primary, ordinance, or defensive shield. Which brings us to arguably her best ability: Thermal Shield. When activated, Thermal Shield or commonly known as Heat Shield, will stop and destroy incoming fire as well as deal heavy damage to enemies that come too close.

The kits available to Scorch all change her playstyle, and one specifically removes self-damage taken from abilities that most players take: Tempered Plating. Veterans opt for other kits, but I strongly recommend Tempered Plating for new players.

Scorch’s biggest weakness is range. She has neither offensive capabilities nor mobility to close the distance ever since her inception, which isn’t a bad thing, it pushes Scorch players to a playstyle of sticking to corners and being an ambush titan in larger maps. For close range maps, Scorch is instantly the number 1 titan, as all of her damage from abilities stacks, making her the titan with the fastest time to kill. Her beefy 5 pools of HP are a great bonus on top. Selecting Overcore or Counter Ready as the pilot kit is a great offensive and defensive choice.

What Scorch Excels In

Close quarters combat

Low ranged abilities and a slow projectile primary weapon pushes Scorch as the premiere dueling titan in close quarters.

High burst damage

All of her damage over time abilities stack on top of her already high damage numbers.

Defensive capabilities

With 5 units of HP and a shield that destroys all incoming projectiles, Scorch can easily hold her ground.

Titan and pilot killer

Burst damage and large area of effect abilities make Scorch the best at killing titans and pilots.

Choose Scorch if the maps have many corners, forcing titans to engage in short distance fights.

Scorch Full Details:

T-203 Grenade Launcher: A single shot projectile that, upon impact, detonates five to nine thermite pools. Great for carpeting areas, harassing titans, detonating traps, not so much for killing pilots.

Firewall: A ground based ability that sends a line of fire that can travel under titans and structures, but not over structures. Good ability to trigger Incendiary Traps. Firewall lasts 5 seconds

Incendiary Trap: Scorch deploys a gas canister that spreads green flammable gas over the surrounding area. This gas can be ignited by abilities such as the Thermite Launcher, Firewall, and Thermal Shield. The canister stays on the ground for 12 seconds until ignited, and when ignited, it lasts 5.2 seconds. It has a 15 second cooldown.

Thermal Shield: Similar to Ion’s Vortex Shield, Scorch creates a shield of fire which vaporizes incoming projectiles and ordinances. Thermal Shield can deal incredible amounts of damage when enemies enter melee range. Unlike Ion’s shield, Thermal Shield has a longer deploy and lowering time.

Flame Core: Scorch creates a giant cone-shaped wave of fire that deals an extremely high amount of damage, about 4,500 damage, which is almost 2 bars of health against a titan.

6. Northstar

To describe Northstar in a sentence, she is the sniping titan who you only see for a split second before getting chunked out.

Armed with a long range Plasma Railgun that, when fully charged, deals up to 2000 damage or a little below 1 titan health bar. Her ordinance system consists of a single missile that fires cluster rounds upon impact after a short delay. Arguably the most unique tactical of the game, Northstar can take flight vertically and fire 2 railgun shots and 1 missile ordinance before she returns to the ground. As is the case with titans with great offensive capabilities, her defensive ability is lackluster, and she places down what is essentially a titan-sized tether trap that hinders their movement. For any Overwatch players, Northstar’s Core is reminiscent of Pharah’s ultimate: fly up high to rain down missiles on her enemies. Due to having a Titan chassis that has only a 3 HP pool, she has 2 dashes built in to compensate.

Northstar veterans who have mastered her VTOL tactical and Flight Core pick the kit that gives her flight better maneuverability named “Viper Thrusters”. The next best choice would be selecting Enhanced Payload that increases the blast radius and duration of her cluster secondary explosive. Her other choices of kits are underwhelming but not useless, the double tether traps can be used in a supportive or camper role.

Reminiscent of the CS:GO or Rainbow Six playstyle, a great Northstar is only seen for a split second before chunking 1-2 bars of HP off your Titan. With two built-in dashes and vertical flight, she rivals Ronin in terms of Titan maneuverability. Not to mention that she can dash while hovering, making for a great peek-and-cover combo of hovering, then dashing in to shoot a fully charged shot and potentially send a missile, then dashing out. Another mobility tactic that separates good Northstars from great ones is using her VTOL to help support a push.

Despite being the sniping titan, her primary weapon is not accurate enough to snipe pilots reliably, which means her only means of anti-pilot weaponry is her ordinance and the electric smokes. One trick that surprised me is that Northstar players know that they will get flanked by Ronins or other assault titans and will opt to lay down their tether wire and Nuclear Eject in a crowd of titans.

What Northstar excels In

Long Range Combat

Plasma railgun and two dashes make for a formidable sniper.

Hit and Run Tactics

Charging your railgun to sneak a peek, then dashing away and respeaking from a different angle catches enemy titans off guard.

Great Mobility

VTOL, dashes, the ability to immobilize enemy titans, and did I mention that her railgun slows enemies on contact.

Ability to Support a Push

Take to the skies and provide covering fire from an unsuspecting angle to help your friendly Legion or Scorch push.

Choose Northstar if you enjoy playing the sniper archetype with a peek-and-cover playstyle.

Northstar Full Details:

Plasma Railgun: A projectile-based sniper railgun that charges up while zoomed in. Holding the right click button charges the rifle. Deals 500-2000 damage per shot depending on charge, and a maximum of 3750 critical damage on a fully charged shot which takes out 1.5 bars of HP from titans. Fairly inaccurate against pilots.

Cluster Missile: Straight flying missile that, upon impact, creates sustained explosions in an area. Excellent for taking out pilots and denying areas.

VTOL Hover: Vertical Take Off and Landing. This allows the pilot to launch up and hover for a short time, giving vision over buildings for sniping and scouting purposes. However, using this makes Northstar more vulnerable and easily spotted. Use with caution.

Tether Trap: Northstar deploys a mine that, when triggered, will immobilize an enemy Titan or Reaper for a few seconds. The mine can be destroyed by weapons fire, but once latched onto an enemy, cannot be destroyed.

Flight Core: When activated, the Northstar activates its hover jets, similar to its utility ability VTOL Hover. Unlike the standard hover, the Northstar's missile pods open and fire a barrage of moderately fast missiles towards the crosshair. The Northstar can sustain damage while her core ability is active.

5. Legion

A minigun who just so happens to be attached to a titan, Legion is the embodiment of the juggernaut titan, similar to the Heavy in Team Fortress 2.

Legion’s main armament is the Predator Minigun Cannon, which requires a short spin up time before firing. While firing her gun, Legion’s movement speed is decreased by half. In exchange for those conditions, she can swap between close and long range, which grants different ordinances. At close range, her ordinance fires a shotgun-like projectile that knocks back and slows titans. At long range, she can take a single sniper rifle shot, similar in function to Northstar’s rifle. On top of all that, Legion has 5 units of health and a 2500 HP Gun Shield. Her Core grants unlimited ammo and auto-aiming once targets are locked-on. Her core may seem underwhelming, but Legion also receives a hidden 20% damage increase to all of their attacks.

Legion’s choice of kit is all viable and highly dependent on your playstyle. I’d say the least optimal choice would be the increased HP of her gun shield, as enemy pilots usually avoid Legion and hide in cover rather than face her head on. Legion veterans typically opt for faster moving or having 2 charges of her ordinance.

The downsides to picking Legion are her vulnerability to pilots wielding anti-titan weapons, as her AOE is lackluster and her mobility is the slowest in the game. On the bright side, 2 or 3 direct hits from her minigun instantly kill pilots, and her long-range firing mode gives her small amounts of splash damage. Although not optimal, Smart Core can be used against pilots with great effect. On a side note, while her Gun Shield is active, Legion is locked to spinning her minigun until the shield runs out or receives enough damage to break. As for pilot kits, Overcore and Turbo Engine are the optimal choices to increase Legion’s offensive or defensive capabilities.

What Legion Excels In

Area Denial

Players who spent a good amount of time on Titanfall 2 know that any area the Legion looks at is hers. Anyone who enters will be met with a hail of bullets.

Lethality at every range

Legion pilots pose a threat at any distance, armed with a minigun with close and long range firing modes, as well as a built-in shotgun and sniper as her ordinance.

Defensive capabilities

Legion has the highest base HP, and along with her gun shield, she has enough hit points for 2 titans.

Best voice line when engaging multiple targets

"Pilot, we are outnumbered 2 to 1. Recommend aggressive, sustained counterfire."

Choose Legion if you find a nice, narrow, and long passageway that enemies must come through only to be met with a minigun on legs.

Legion Full Details:

Predator Cannon: 100 bullets (140 with Extended Magazine) of fast firing sustained damage. Cannon can be spun by holding down aim. At long range mode, ammo consumption is doubled.

Power Shot: A shotgun or sniper depending if close or long range is selected. Shotgun blast is great for killing ground troops and titans at close range. Sniper shot for a highly accurate damaging shot for titans or pilots using long-range armaments.

Gun Shield: When activated, a 2500 hitpoint particle wall forms around the barrel of the minigun protecting the titan from incoming fire in a 90 degree arc. During this time, Legion cannot sprint, melee attack, or perform titan executions but retains the ability to dash. Legion cannot deactivate Gun Shield. Gun Shield does not block melee damage and does not cover part of Legion’s feet.

Mode Switch: This allows the user to switch the Predator Cannon between Short and Long range mode. When activated, Legion reloads instantly to chamber the long or short range rounds. In Long Range, the display will zoom in and will change to precision rounds. In CQB, it will display a larger crosshair with regular rounds.

Smart Core: 12 seconds of automatic aiming once targets are locked on, and unlimited ammunition. When locked on, fired bullets will home in on targets, including Power Shots. Legion will also receive a hidden 20% damage increase to all of her attacks.

4. Monarch

Monarch plays much like a queen chess piece: a midrange threat who becomes more powerful as the game progresses.

Monarch is a mid-range titan armed with an assault rifle similar to the R-201, a hitscan shield-stealing laser as her defensive ability that slows and blinds the struck target’s HUD, an unguided missile barrage, and a refresh ability that resets the cooldown of her missiles, shield siphon, and dash. Her core is the only non-combat core in the game, which upgrades a facet of her kit. The choice of upgrade can be either offensive, defensive, or utility, all of which can be chosen beforehand by the player.

Picking this titan means locking yourself into a mid-range playstyle, as her kit starts off weak compared to other titans but ramps up to be a killing machine after her first upgrade. Monarch’s ideal play style utilizes short trades to steal shields and do chip damage to reach her upgrade core. After using a rotation of her abilities, Monarch pilots should run to cover to wait for her next rotation of abilities. Certain titans are aware of this cover-and-peek gameplay to push Monarch, but utilizing her refresh ability to give herself extra dashes and siphons, coupled with fully automatic fire, gives Monarch players a fighting or running chance.

Regarding the ideal loadout, all loadouts are viable, and I suggest testing them out first. The community-agreed upon meta loadout is choosing Arc Rounds, Rearm and Reload, and Superior Chassis or XO-16 Accelerator while selecting the Overcore pilot kit. This preset focuses on upgrading her assault rifle and giving her a choice of offensive or defensive enhancements at her third core. Other upgrade presets focus on her missiles or utility or defensive capabilities. Pilots should select "Backup Battery" as their boost and pick up any batteries lying around. Opting for double dashes provides great synergy with her refresh ability, but experienced pilots go for Overcore and Titan Hunter to reach their Upgrade Cores.

What Monarch Excels In

Staying alive

With shield siphons and upgrade cores fully restoring shields, Monarch can stay on the battlefield for extended periods of time.

Flexibility in playstyle

The choice of loadouts gives Monarch great flexibility and the rare opportunity to be the only support titan by giving friendly titans shields if the appropriate loadout is selected.

Ease of use

Unlike other titans, once her upgrade core is up, it is always a must-use. Alongside her automatic rifle, and ability to dash multiple times.

If you're a new player or want to stay in a Titan for the duration of the match, go with Monarch.

Monarch Full Details:

XO-16 20mm Automatic Rifle: Fast firing hitscan rifle. Does moderate sustained damage with good accuracy and a roughly 3 second reload. Reliable damage and holds 35 shots on drop.

Rocket Salvo: Launches 6 rockets in a spiral pattern. Inaccurate, but does solid damage and great for taking out pilots behind cover. Reliable only at close range. While powerful, Rocket Salvos are difficult to land compared. 6 second cooldown.

Energy Siphon: A shoulder-mounted ability that does negligible damage and restores your shields. Shield restores 250 on pilot or minion hit, and 750 on titans, reapers, and dropships. It also temporarily blinds titans, slow turning and movement speed. Deals extra extra 1,250 damage to enemies with shields. Roughly a 12 second cooldown.

Rearm: Refreshes the cooldown of all of your abilities and dashes after a 1 second windup. Roughly 17 second cooldown and utilization of this ability separates an average Monarch from a great one.

Upgrade Core: Instantly gain a full bar of shield and gain an upgrade. Upgrades are chosen at the loadout screen. There are three tiers of upgrade, consecutively acquired with each Upgrade core you use. All tiers feature three choices of upgrades to choose from. Upgrades grant additional Electric Smoke charges starting from 1 to 3 to 5. Upgrades after rank three only instantly restore shields and nothing more.

3. Ronin

Built on the same chassis as Northstar, Ronin comes with 3 bars of hitpoints and 2 dashes by default. Unlike his close-range counterparts such as Scorch, Ronin prefers to deal damage and get some executions, followed by dashing away to safety.

Every armament that Ronin possesses was designed for dealing large amounts of close-range damage. Her shotgun functions as a typical video game shotgun, with the caveat that close-range critical hits take out large chunks of hit points against enemy titans. On distances where her shotgun isn’t at its effective range, the damage and slow from Sword Arc should be used for chip damage and to close the distance. Against particularly dangerous titans that can deal close-range burst damage or can hinder Ronin’s mobility, Phase Dash functions as a titan-sized Phase Shift except using the ability forces Ronin to dash in the direction she is looking. This can be coupled with a standard dash before, during, or after Phase Dash for extra mobility.

Ronin’s has two popular kit options. For offense, selecting Thunderstorm gives 2 charges of Arc Blade. For defense, Temporal Anomaly shortens the cooldown of Phase Shift allowing two uses if Ronin engages with Phase Shift, followed by a rotation of abilities, then exits with Phase Shift. Veteran players who have truly mastered the way of the titan sword sometimes select Highlander to boost the duration of her Sword Core, but in my opinion the ability is overkill and the other 2 kits provide more usefulness upfront. Since Sword Core is a unit of a core, selecting Overcore or Nuclear Ejection to eject in a crowd are the preferred pilot kits by many.

Ronin’s playstyle is straightforward: close the distance, deal damage, and seek safety. The last segment differentiates an average Ronin from a great pilot, as most players do not plan their escape and end up dying with all abilities on cooldown. More so with Ronin’s 3 bars of HP and the fact that enemy titans can instantly execute her once her HP goes into critical mode, Ronin is the definition of high-risk and high-reward.

What Ronin Excels In

Close Range Combat

Shotgun, mobility, and her core being named Sword Core push Ronin to be a melee-oriented titan.

Damage Threat

A rotation of abilities coupled with a few melee and shotgun blasts can easily deal 10,000 damage in a few seconds.

High Mobility

Coming in with the highest base movement speed, two dashes, and a Phase Dash, Ronin pilots enjoy the highest amount of mobility among the titans.

Choose Ronin if you enjoy close-range melee combat with high mobility and flashy attacks.

Ronin Full Details:

Leadwall Shotgun: A 4 capacity magazine that fires 2 rows of 4 pellets in a rectangle pattern. It deals a solid amount of 60 damage per pellet at close range, and 25 per pellet at longer distances. ADS is best used for targeting the weak points of titans at close range after all other abilities have been exhausted or if the titan has a sliver of HP left.

Arc Wave: In Ronin’s ordinance slot, she swipes her sword across the ground, generating an electric wave that deals 1,000 damage to titans and heavily damaging pilots, slowing both movement and dash speed. Arc Wave outranges Ronin’s shotgun and is best suited as an engagement ability.

Phase Dash: Ronin dashes the direction she is looking at, temporarily being immune to all damages and unable to deal damage, while allowing herself to pass through enemy and friendly. Pilots can perform a standard dash followed by a Phase Dash simultaneously to cover great distances quickly, or use a standard dash during her Phase Dash to alter Ronin’s course.

Sword Block: Ronin holds her sword up in a defensive position to block incoming enemy fire, reducing all incoming projectiles and ordinance by 70%. The block can be held indefinitely, and can block areas to the side and behind Ronin. This ability is best used when crossing dangerous terrain or waiting for her abilities to come up.

Sword Core: Sword Core empowers Ronin's melee attacks and abilities for the next 12 seconds. While active, her shotgun will be replaced with an empowered sword that deals high damage and has unlimited use while the core is active. The effects of Sword Core include:

Instantly replenishes Ronin’s dashes and lowers the recharge time

increases melee damage by 75%.

Sword Block's damage resistance increases from 70% to 85%.

Arc Wave deals 1,500 to Titans (compared to the normal 1,000), and instantly kills enemy pilots.

Ronin's melee attacks will deal 2,200 damage per swing, approximately triple its normal damage.

2. Ion

Titanfall 2 players may find it surprising that Ion is this far up the list, but I believe he is a versatile titan that’s great for every situation and can win every 1v1 engagement (except at point-blank range of Scorch and Ronin as no titan wins that matchup). The tricky part with Ion is balancing her energy, which takes time and familiarity.

Understanding Ion’s Energy mechanics is crucial before talking about her armaments. There is a shared pool of resources that Ion-specific abilities use up named Energy. Universal abilities such as dashes and electric smoke do not consume abilities, nor do firing her Laser Core or primary weapon.

Armed with a plasma assault rifle that fires automatic, projectile-based ammunition. Holding down the right click allows the rifle to shoot in a pseudo-shotgun manner, firing 3 bullets side-by-side. However, using the shotgun mode drains energy. Her shoulder-mounted ordinance fires a hitscan laser that is best used against pilots and has the ability to be zoomed in for sniping. Ion’s defensive ability is considered the worst, on par with Northstar’s Tether. It is best used for pilots or Ronin and Scorch pushes, especially when placed at blind spots. On to Ion’s signature ability: Vortex Shield. Vortex Shield is Ion’s defensive ability that allows her to stop enemy fire, such as rockets and bullets, and send the projectiles right back to the enemy. Laser Core is as straightforward a core as it gets. After a small windup, dashing becomes unavailable, and a hitscan laser beam fires out from Ion's chest, capable of destroying any Titan in a few moments and bypassing most defensive abilities such as Tone’s wall or Legion’s Gun Shield.

As for choice of kits, the most common choice is Vortex Amplifier to increase the bullet return damage by 35%. The next choice is Grand Cannon, which extends the duration of Laser Core from 3.5 to 5 seconds, combined with Overcore. The final option would be to use a Tripwire with no energy cost, as activating the ability without the kit costs 35% of Ion's energy. Turbo Engine is a decent choice too, as it boosts Ion’s overall capabilities.

Ion has the most skill expression among the titans and has the potential to win any 1v1 as long as the pilot uses Vortex Shield perfectly. Her gameplay is mix of Monarch and Scorch, wherein Ion excels in both mid-range and close-range combat. In CQB, activating the alternate fire of her Plasma Rifle, timing her Vortex Shield when enemies panic and use their ordinance, and trip wiring the area behind retreating enemies make her able to stand toe-to-toe with most titans. For longer range engagements, her ordinance with rifle fire can chunk out titans, although it's preferable for titans to come towards Ion while expending their mobility so Ion can mow them down with her Laser Core and Tripwire.

What Ion Excels In

Offensive and Defensive Capabilities

Armed with a Vortex Shield, Plasma Rifle, and Laser Core, Ion has one of the best offensive and defensive capabilities.

Deadly Laser Core

Dealing a whopping 3250 damage per second for 3.5 seconds, the last thing enemies see is a red beam before being sent to the respawn screen.

Highest Skill Expression

If you find other Titans to have a one-dimensional and boring playstyle, try out Ion, as she tests your reflexes and game knowledge.

Anti-Titan and Anti-Pilot Weaponry

Ordinance that can one shot pilots, an alternate shotgun on her Plasma Rifle, Vortex Shield that can return projectiles and ordinance back to their sender, Ion’s offensive capabilities extend to pilots and titans.

Choose Ion if you want a satisfying and rewarding Titan to play without getting bored.

Ion Full Details:

Splitter Rifle: 40 round magazine of projectile-based automatic fire. Has an alternate automatic firing mode where the rifle shoots 3 projectiles side-by-side which drains energy. The number of projectiles can be increased to 5 with Refraction Lens. Relatively low damage output.

Laser Shot: Costing 55% energy, Laser Shot is a hitscan ordinance that one shots enemy pilots and deals 1200 damage to titans (half bar of HP). Laser shot can be charged which can be canceled by melee attacking. You can zoom in via alternate fire when holding a Laser Shot.

Tripwire: Costing 35% energy and lasting for 12 seconds with a cooldown of 10 seconds. Tripwires are extraordinarily useful for killing Pilots, due to its large explosion radius allowing it to kill pilots within several meters of the mine. Tripwire deals about 1000 damage to titans.

Vortex Shield: Draining energy while active, Vortex Shield is effective against munitions and rocket ordnance, as it can catch all projectiles and return them to the sender. Fairly quick activating and lowering speed.

Laser Core: A deadly oversized laser beam fired from the chest of the Ion and capable of stopping anything in its path. Dealing 3250 damage per second for 3.5 seconds for a total of 11375 damage or 4.5 bars of hit points against titans.

1. Tone

If Monarch is equivalent to a queen in chess, then Tone is the Rook; mid-to-long range defensive behemoth.

Tone is equipped with a slow-firing semi-automatic cannon that fires explosive rounds, which grants lock-on to her tracking rockets. Her rockets require 3 lock-ons to fire, upon which 5 missiles per target locked will be fired. Her defensive ability grants a stationary force-field that blocks any projectile and ordinance from one side, allowing damage to be taken from the other side. Tone’s tactical is a projectile that emits a sonar that reveals enemy titan location to herself and nearby teammates, and grants partial lock-on for her missiles. Finally, her core fires 48 wire-guided missiles that track the Titan's crosshair and will attempt to converge on what it is looking at. This can be used to guide the missile swarm around corners or over cover, to hit enemies from behind.

Tone is best played a fair distance away from enemy titans. She has a similar playstyle to Monarch: cover-and-peek playstyle, except you produce your own one-way cover. Generally, you will be in this situation: placing a shield down and using missiles whenever lock-ons are established. Upon placing a shield, your enemies are presented with one of four choices: pushing you, using overwhelming firepower to destroy your shield, flanking, or heading for cover to wait out the shield. In all choices, Tone can lay down her missiles and cannon fire.

The choice of kit is all viable, and the kit you choose to run depends on your playstyle. Most players opt for the increased defense and time of Tone’s Particle Wall, whereas offense-oriented pilots have the option for 3-shot burst fire for her cannon. Pilots who enjoy Tone’s ordinance can select 2 choices of damage or utility upgrades, and her final choice of kit is more pulses for her sonar which players rarely take. Selecting Turbo Engine for the additional dash would be the best pilot kit for her.

What Tone Excels In

Area Denial/Camping

Set up her wall with a large open space ahead, and enemies will think twice before showing themselves.

Ease of use

Fairly beginner friendly with intuitive offensive and defensive capabilities. The only skill expression is ordinance usage and wall placement.

Offensive and defensive machine

48 missiles from her Salvo Core coupled with a one way wall, and she has enough damage to take out two and a half titans.

Choose Tone if you enjoy a great mix of offense and defense.

Tone Full Details:

40mm Tracker Canon: Semi-automatic explosive rounds cannon that provides partial lock-on. The slow projectile speed makes targeting mobile pilots difficult but can oneshot upon direct hit and deals splash damage. 12 round magazine with a 3 second reload speed.

Tracking Rockets: Launches 5 guided rockets per locked-on target. Straightforward ability with great DPS. The only skill expression is by aiming in a way that the rockets’ trajectory can hit enemies behind cover. Rockets can target titans, reapers, and dropships.

Particle Wall: A stationary 2000 HP or 8 second force-field that blocks any projectile and ordinance from one side, allowing damage to be taken from the other side. Particle Wall is strong against sustained fire from enemy titan’s primary weapons, but weak against high damage ordinance and provides no protection from melee attacks, Ion’s Core, and Scortch’s AOE.

Sonar Lock: Shoulder-mounted projectile that, upon impact, releases orange pulses that reveal enemies to nearby allies and establishes a partial lock-on.

Salvo Core: A barrage of 48 wire-guided missiles that will orient themselves to the player’s crosshair. This can be used to target enemies behind cover or enemies who dashed away. Salvo Core’s missiles obliterate titans but does not deal much damage to enemy shields such as Legion or Tone’s.
