1. New York Jets

As time has gone on Madden has begun using the same playbooks that teams use during real NFL games. The playbooks even update during the year to adjust to the play style of that particular team.

As for right now, the New York Jets playbook is still built for Aaron Rodgers. With Rodgers being one of the most talented quarterbacks in NFL history it is no surprise that the playbook allows for an aggressive passing attack. However, with one of the best young running backs in the NFL, Breece Hall being on the roster there's also a great balance of run plays as well.

Reasons To Use This Playbook-

  • If you are an experienced Madden player. This playbook offers many offensive schemes that may be confusing to new users. I am pretty experienced and still struggled at first.
  • If you enjoy using the shotgun. The Jets offense is primarily shotgun based because Rodgers works best from the Gun.
  • If you enjoy using Bunch Formations and Tight Ends. The Jets playbook has a great amount of special formations that other playbooks don’t have. You can focus on scoring plays more often when using these formations.

2. San Francisco 49ers

Make no mistake about it, the 49ers have one of the best offensive minded coaches of all time. It is only right that they have one of the best playbooks in Madden if the game is going to be considered realistic.

Kyle Shanahan is known for being an offensive mastermind. He has earned this reputation after being in charge of some of the best offenses in recent years. The 49ers are a star studded team that revolves around ground and pound with play action inserted. Their playbook offers nice run plays with lots of motion. It also has a great deal of play action plays that can confuse a defense.

Reasons to use this playbook-

  • If you have patience. This is not a playbook that is built for people who want to score fast and often. This playbook is built for conservative play.
  • You have a dominant running back. If you are playing a game mode like Ultimate Team then you should use this playbook if you have a dominant running game. You are guaranteed to have run plays that will help you get your back going.
  • You want to protect the football. The 49ers are an extremely efficient team that likes to take care of the football. They often use checkdown routes and play actions to create safe, low- risk opportunities.

3. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are lucky enough to have access to one of the best arm talents in the NFL. Their playbook displays so. Not only is their QB extremely accurate, but they have exceptional talent at the WR position.

The Bengals have a talented running back so they do have their fair share of run plays. However, the strength of their playbook is taking advantage of their passing matchup. The Bengals have all route concepts installed into their playbook and are a great choice if you want to air it out.

Reasons to use this playbook-

  • If you want to be pass heavy. The Bengals go as far as Joe Burrow takes them. This means they have to build their playbook around their Quarterback. Their playbook allows users to show off their passing abilities.
  • You want to score a lot of points. Not only is the playbook built to throw a lot, it is built to throw deep and take advantage of the defense. You can take shots down the field in multiple ways to have success.
  • You have a star QB- Do not get the Bengals playbook if you do not have a QB with arm talent. You will frustrate yourself with the inability to take advantage of the route concepts.

4. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have a great playbook for similar reasons that I stated for the Bengals. However, it is much more complicated in my opinion. When you have a weapon like Patrick Mahomes you have to take advantage. For that reason, the Chiefs have a massive variety of run and pass calls.

The Chiefs are built for experienced players however they also have a great deal of cheese plays. Andy Reid is an offensive mastermind so he has plays that appear confusing to the defense, but on the offensive end, you find wide open receivers.

Reasons For This Playbook-

  • You have a mobile quarterback. The Chiefs offense has a lot of option plays. These plays can be amazing if you have a capable QB. If your QB is not mobile and skilled then you will suffer trying to use the entirety of this playbook.
  • You have a star TE. The Chiefs have a generational TE. They have to find ways to get Travis Kelce open and involved. This translates directly to the game as the TE often has a lot of special routes.
  • You have a QB who can throw on the run. The Chiefs have a great deal of roll out plays. Some of these throws can simply not be made with average quarterbacks. I stated earlier you must have a mobile quarterback referring to option plays. This is more referring to arm talent while scrambling.

5. Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have been lucky enough to have multiple awesome offensive minded coaches over the years. Whether it be Andy Reid, Chip Kelly, or Nick Sirianni, they all have had success when it comes to the X’s and O’s.

Jalen Hurts is the premier focus of the Eagles offense. They are a run-first team with a dominant offensive line. The Eagles can mix it up with trick plays however, they would rather just pound the ball up the middle and with option plays.

Reasons To Use The Eagles Playbook-

  • You have a running QB. The Eagles have QB designed runs where there is no intention to slide down before contact. Plays like QB Power and QB Counter can be very effective if you have the correct personnel.
  • You have two star WRs. The Eagles have both Devonta Smith and AJ Brown. Both of these players have earned their respect and both have plays designed for them. This is reflected in the playbook as most playbooks only feature the WR1.
  • You have a dominant Offensive Line. The Eagles have lots of run plays as this is the foundation of their offense. They like to run the ball between the tackles and play old-school football. This approach does not work if you do not have a respectable lineman.

6. Buffalo Bills

The Bills much like the Chiefs are an offense that’s built around the talent of their QBs legs and feet. They also have a sprinkle of Philadelphia's offense because they also have some Designed QB runs.

Josh Allen is one of the biggest forces at the QB position. Not only does he have the strongest arm in the NFL, but you could make a case that he is the strongest QB in the NFL. The Bills offense is built around the dominance of Allen and All-Pro teammate Steffon Diggs.

Use this offense if-

  • You like the Shotgun. The Bills offense is primarily shotgun based because this is where Allen works best. He has the ability to escape the pocket if he needs to.
  • You like to run with the QB. This offense has a lot of plays where the QB is being protected. This is because the Bills go as far as Allen takes them.
  • You have a great 1 on 1 receiver. The Bills offense in Madden is built to have Josh Allen be the focus until he decides to hit Diggs for a 60 yard Touchdown. Many times the WR1 is isolated off to the side while the rest of the formation is bunched together.

7.  Los Angeles Rams

8. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys don’t have the most popular playbook however they have a small amount of plays that are very effective. The Cowboys come into the game with a game plan and they live or die by that game plan.

Dallas has a fair amount of passing and running plays. However, they use their tight ends and slot receivers more than most teams. You have to be ready to find spots in zones and take advantage of matchups when using this playbook.

Use this playbook if-

  • You want to play conservative. The Cowboys don’t like to put Dak in pass-happy situations. They are built to be conservative and take advantage of looks.
  • You have a dominant offensive line. The Cowboys do not have complicated run plays. Everything is pretty simple. The Cowboys are a matchup team that likes to trust the players on their roster. Plan on seeing basic run plays and playing old school football.
  • You have a dominant slot receiver. The Cowboys have a lot of plays where their slot is allowed to run special routes. CeeDee Lamb often plays in the slot so this allows him to get involved.

9. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a team that has a specific identity that has not changed for some years. Although they have lost their QB Drew Brees, they still run a similar offense. They have a simple concept unless they have Taysom Hill in the game.

The Saints have gadgets that they like to use. Their personnel often gives away what they plan on doing. They like to do direct snaps to Alvin Kamara or utilize Taysom Hill in a multitude of ways.

Use this playbook if-

  • You are creative. You must be creative to use this playbook because they have all sorts of direct snaps and jet sweeps that you may be too scared to use when the pressure is on.
  • You have a conservative QB. Even with Drew Brees behind center, he was not a strong armed QB. This means that the routes are usually quick, fast and effective.
  • A good route running receiver. The Saints rely on Michael Thomas to get open on slant routes very often. If your WR1 can not create separation you may find yourself struggling heavily in the passing game.

10. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are a team that is not super talented across the board. They have had to use schemes to even be competitive in games. This can be dangerous if this scheme is applied to an effective roster.

The Colts best player is Jonothan Taylor. In order for them to be as good as they can be, it is important that they get him involved. There is a good display of run plays for you to choose from. Taylor is a do-it-all back so be prepared to use your RB as a bell cow.

Reasons to use the Colts Playbook-

  • If you feel you have to run the ball to win. The Colts know what it is like to have to run the ball to win the game. If you need to run the ball for the entire game, lean toward this playbook.
  • If you like a QB run and pass balance. The Colts have an offense that has been catered to Anthony Richardson. With his size it is important they have some QB designed runs.
  • The Gun Bunch Formation. This is one of the best formations in the game and is used heavily by competitive players. This offense also has a good amount of RB routes out of the backfield.
