The biggest class out of the four in both size and personality, the Ogryn offers a truly unique playstyle to Darktide. This big man has carved out a diehard fan base who has crafted out some really strong builds for the big man and this guide is here to add to that pile so everyone can have fun crushing heretics.

5. Shotgun Ogryn

Shotgun Ogryn build
This is the part I like!

The shotgun Ogryn build focuses on shotguns with various skills to help that. The “Reload and Ready” and “Pacemaker” skills boost damage after a reload and reload speed respectively allowing fast and consistent burst damage. The “Point-blank Barrage” ability massively increases fire rate and reload speed for ten seconds and taking the “Thick of the Fray” modifier makes close-range attacks deal 15% more damage while “Point-blank Barrage” is active for even more burst damage.

The second half of the build focuses on hard-hitting melee attacks for when the shotgun doesn’t initially kill or if you want to start your attack with a melee. The “Soften Them Up” skill helps with both melee and ranged by just making whatever the Ogryn hits take 15% more damage for five seconds. “Smash ‘Em!” and “The Best Defense” gives toughness back on a heavy melee hit allowing for some great survivability and the “Heavy Hitter” keystone gives a 5% stacking damage boost for hitting enemies which can reset with a light attack thanks to the “Brutish Momentum” modifier.

Weapons to take for this build are obviously the two shotguns Ogryns are given, that being the “Kickback” and the “Ripper gun”. The “Kickback” is used to maximize the reload buffs this build gets since the “Kickback” only has one shot while the best “Ripper gun” to use for this build is the MK5 for its fast fire rate. For melee, I recommend the MK4 “Krouk Cleaver” for its strong single-target damage allowing you to either finish off enemies or weaken them for a blast of buckshot.

4. Breacher Ogryn

Breacher Ogryn build
Death Traiiiiiin!

The breacher Ogryn build is all about one thing and that is getting stuck in with a horde of enemies and not dying. We still take the “Smash ‘Em!” skill for the toughness regeneration but we also take skills like “Batter” to bleed enemies on heavy melee hits and “ Delight in Destruction” to give the Ogryn a 10% damage resistance against bleeding enemies in melee range which stacks to 60%.

For getting in the fight we have the “Indomitable” ability which charges the Ogryn in a direction and knocks over every enemy that isn’t a boss giving us and our team much-needed space to either get in a good fight or get out of a bad one. The “Stomping Boots” and “Trample” modifiers give the Ogryn toughness and a stacking damage boost per enemy hit with “Indomitable” which allows us to start fights at an advantage. This also synergizes with the “Bonebreaker’s Aura” giving the Ogryn and nearby allies 10% more damage on their heavy melee hits.

Finishing off the build are the “Feel no Pain” keystone and the “Big Friendly Rock” grenade. The former is a powerful keystone that gives the Ogryn a stacking 2.5% toughness regen boost and damage reduction for up to 10 stacks which slowly degrades whenever the Ogryn takes damage. This keystone tops off the already ludicrous damage reduction this build already gives. And the “Big Friendly Rock” grenade is a literal rock with some rebar in it that can one-shot all but three of the specialist and elite enemies giving the Ogryn a good sniping tool. Combo that with the “Bruiser” skill which regenerates 5% of the Ogryn’s ability cooldown on an elite kill and you can be charging fairly often.

Weapons to use with this build would be melee weapons with wide melee swings like the “Karsolas Pickaxe”, “MK5 Latrine Shovel”, and the “Maul and Slab Shield”. For range if you don’t want to rely on only the rock for long-ranged damage the “Lorenz MK6 Rumbler” and the “MK3 Grenade Gauntlet” with the former having a bigger blast radius and the latter being able to double as a fun melee weapon.

3. Gunlugger

Gunlugger build
Heavy Rain!

The Gunlugger build focuses almost entirely on the Gunlugger side of the Ogryn skill tree trading most of our versatility to become a walking firing line and it works wonders. We still take “ Point-Blank Barrage”, “Soften Them Up”, “Reload and Ready”, and “Pacemaker” but we also add skills like “Steady Grip” which gives 3% toughness regen when bracing our gun, “Ammo Stash” which increases the Ogryn’s ammo reserve by 25%, and the “Coward Culling” aura which increases damage dealt to suppressed enemies by 20%.

To top off the build we change the modifier for “Point-Blank Barrage” to “Light ‘Em Up” making every ranged hit while “Point-Blank Barrage” is active gives enemies a stacking burn for consistent mid-range damage. We also take the “Frag Bomb” grenade in order to clear hordes of elites and specialists included as well as the “Burst Limiter Override” keystone which gives the Ogryn an 8% chance to not consume ammo per shot; and using the “Maximum Firepower” and “More Burst Limiter Overrides” modifiers turns the 8% chance into a 12% chance and gives a 200% ability cooldown when the lucky bullet is triggered.

Weapons to use in this build are going to be the “Heavy Stubbers” each of which vary slightly differently. The “Gorgonum” is the hardest-hitting while also having the lowest mag size and fire rate, the “Krouk” is the middle of the road and most balanced, and the “Achlys” has the biggest mag and fastest fire rate but also the least damaging. The “MK5 Ripper gun is also a good pick for the fast fire rate as well.

2. Wall Ogryn

Wall Ogryn
Here I am! Hit me.

The wall Ogryn build focuses on team support by making the Ogryn become a wall that enemies have to pass through in order to hurt the rest of the team. We still take the “Feel No Pain” keystone along with “Batter” and “Delight in Destruction” for bleed. We also opt to take the “Frag Bomb” and the “Big Boom” skill to increase explosive radius by 22.5%.

The lynchpin of this build however is the “Loyal Protector” ability which taunts enemies which is the only taunt in the game besides the “Attention Seeker” skill which we also take to taunt any enemy we block or push. For the “Loyal Protector” ability we also take the “Valuable Distraction” modifier to make everyone the Ogryn taunts take 25% more damage. All of these skills combined turns the Ogryn into a wall that bleeds anything he hits and can taunt any enemy in the game, even bosses.

Weapons to use for this build would be the “Maul and Slab Shield” for its superior defensive capabilities that let the Ogryn block bullets and its good crowd control heavy attacks. For ranged weapons, the “Rumbler” and “Grenade Gauntlet” both synergize with “Big Boom” allowing both weapons to clear hordes and knock down stronger enemies with ease.

1. Juggernaut Ogryn

Juggernaut Ogryn
You’re dead weight!

The Juggernaut Ogryn adds the damage from the Breacher build with the taunts from the Wall making an Ogryn build that can reliably kill tough enemies and take aggro from the team when needed. The “Loyal Protector” ability is used during a fight to take enemies off of a teammate as opposed to the Wall build in which it's used to start a fight to force enemies onto you.

The trade-off of some defense is some powerful melee as this build keeps “Heavy Hitter” making the Ogryn’s melee do tons of damage. We also add skills like “Won’t Give In” which gives the Ogryn a stacking 20% damage reduction for each downed ally within 20 meters and the “Too Stubborn to Die” skill which gives the Ogryn a massive 100% toughness regen boost while below 25% health. These two skills make the Ogryn the go-to class to pick up allies since he becomes insanely tanky when his teammates are down.

Weapons to use in this build would be the “Pickaxes”, the “Shovels”, and surprisingly the “Cleavers” since this build doesn’t want to focus on crowd control the “Cleaver’s” high damage can help to take out stronger enemies. For ranged weapons the “Kickback” and “Ripper guns” are the go-to since this build takes the “Big Friendly Rock” so some close-ranged firepower is much appreciated.
