The Wolf Among Us is a game that has left an everlasting impression on anyone that played it. Every character in the town of Fabletown has a role to play and Sheriff Bigby Wolf is at the center of it all. From its comic-like gameplay to its diverging storyline, and the thrilling cliffhanger ending, the game has nuseveralents that are worth savoring. With so much going on with the game, picking just 10 moments to highlight is a difficult task. Nonetheless, here are the best 10 moments from the game that stood up above the rest! SPOILERS AHEAD! You have been warned.
10. Finding Faith’s Head at the Doorstep!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF5m8xiPWK0
I feel like it’s a no-brainer that I find this scene rather shocking considering as a player, when Faith was introduced as a prostitute, the chemistry between Bigby Wolf and Faith did make us feel like Faith might be in it for the long haul. However, this expectation is subverted as players find her dead outside of Woodlands. This can undoubtedly cause a shock for any player who was invested in the story, I know it certainly did for me. It also pushed the story to become the murder mystery that only convolutes as it unfolds.
09. Finding Snow White’s Head at the Doorstep!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxuG3wF2CAw
Why can’t Bigby catch a break from finding heads at doorsteps? As if it wasn’t enough to find Faith’s head, but Snow’s too?! It was such a shocker for both Bigby and the player to find Snow’s decapitated head at the doorstep of the Woodlands. My heart dropped as the shocking twist was revealed. Especially after witnessing the moment Snow and Bigby shared in the cab, you ought to be rooting for this duo to last throughout the game, but this scene just took all my hopes away in an instant!
08. Snow is alive?!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSDQNymq33M
I think it’s safe to say this game always blows our minds. Just when the idea of Snow dying sinks in, this happens! Snow is alive! She interrupts the interrogation, leaving the Sheriff, Crane, Bluebeard, the players, and probably the neighbor’s cat in complete shock. I can’t help but feel a little relieved seeing Snow alive but then at this point, anything can happen, maybe Faith’s alive too! But further questions arise, who is the other Snow? You know, the one who’s dead. All sorts of questions run through the player's minds as they see Snow alive and well.
07. The Truth About Crane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWbL9netyak
At the end of the video, you’ll see Bigby finding an envelope with photographs of Crane and Lily (Glamoured as Snow) playing out his fantasy. This was both a shocking and disturbing discovery as both Bigby and Beauty were horrified to see what they had uncovered. I know I was. And to think Crane was hostile towards Snow only to hide his true feelings, his true intentions. This was something that left everyone stunned. Now you’d think, how was this the best moment? Because it made us feel betrayed like the characters in the game. Something that makes us feel as if we are in the game ourselves should have a shout-out!
06. Bigby against the Tweedle Twins as a Werewolf
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nJt5brLj0A
Now while I love a twist more than anything, I’ve got to say I love an amazing fight just as much! And this fight is nothing short of that. While I enjoy seeing Sheriff Bigby trying to keep peace with nothing more than words (well mostly), I have to admit, I was waiting for a big fight where Bigby doesn’t have to hold back for a change. And this is what it was. I think this is one of the moments where we see the Big Bad Wolf side of Bigby and frankly I enjoyed it. I think this moment of Bigby struggling his new self against his old is something that I was a player who looked forward to too. It’s a shame it was cut short by Bloody Mary.
05. Meeting the Crooked Man
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzgG4KuMsT4
Shrouded in mystery, the Crooked Man is a character that we all wanted to come to light. And the anticipation of finally meeting the culprit behind everything that’s going on in Fabletown; the homicides, the corruption; everyone was in his palm. The meticulous Crooked Man was someone that I think all players wanted to meet. This was coupled with the knowledge of finally getting to know the truth about who killed Faith and Lily. Seeing all of his underlings, it became clearer than ever before that the Crooked Man has control over the entire town.
04. Vivian pulling her ribbon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yZYHDDwWAI
As Vivian shows her true colors, as a player, I can’t help but feel somewhat conflicted. Wouldn’t you? I mean it is cruel how she imprisoned all the girls working at the Pudding and Pie with her ribbons but at the same time, I can’t help but also feel sorry for her. She got trapped under the weight of her ambitions and knowing the truth about those ribbons was something that other players and I were looking forward to. As she pulls her ribbon, her decapitation leaves everyone stunned.
03. Bigby’s Final Showdown with Bloody Mary
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyfG_UsXSng
Bloody Mary is an enemy that can take on Bigby Wolf but I find her a little infuriating. So, I was excited about this fight and to see Bigby in his true form, as a Big Bad Wolf in all his glory! This fight certainly left players overwhelmed. We see Bigby finally show off his true power and while Bloody Mary is a worthy adversary, she is outmatched.
02. Bigby Confronts the Crooked Man
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUdO3HF-xSI
I love this scene because it clearly shows how the tides have turned. The Crooked Man is only as powerful as his henchmen and without them, he is only a scared man. You could see his desperation as he points the gun at Bigby forcing him to take him to trial, all the while feeling fearful of the uncertainty of Bigby’s course of action. I think as a player, his helplessness was certainly satisfying to watch.
01. Nerissa Confessing to Bigby
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUdO3HF-xSI
This was by far the best scene ever! I think everyone agrees on that. Not just because of everything being neatly tied into place but because of what happens next. As we see Nerissa confessing her actions to Bigby, I felt she was at fault, even if only a little. But in the end, as she says her last words, flashbacks of Faith came into Bigby’s mind, HER last words. They are the same! And he never got a follow back on the autopsy. It leaves both Bigby and the players with a mind-bending twist of who-is-who and what-is-what. Don’t you agree?
