10 Diablo Bosses That Have Slaughtered Millions of Noobs Worldwide
Diablo is the most popular dungeon crawler by far and perhaps the only one you’ve ever played. Most loyal Diablo fans started pretty young with the first or second game in the franchise. Whether or not you’re new to the series or you’ve been a loyal player since the 90’s, these bosses have likely given you trouble at one time or another. The hardest Diablo boss varies from person to person, but this list will most likely include the one that you found most difficult.
10. AndarielImage
Andariel has some nasty poison attacks. Better attack from range.
Andariel was the lesser evil from Hell that banded together with an angel to try and end the eternal conflict. The union between angel and demon formed the Nephalem, and from them came the human race. Sanctuary was born and both sides of the eternal conflict sat back to see which side the people would choose. With that kind of back story Andariel becomes pretty impressive!
She still sucked though. While she was to thank for creating the human race and all that, she was the first big obstacle in most people’s Diablo journey. For those people like me who started with Diablo II, Andariel was a massive pain in the butt. Up until the end of Act 1 you would very likely have died a few times, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. When you descended into Catacombs level 4 though, you would only find grief and frustration.
Andariel hangs out with the biggest posse of undead minions in the biggest room on the floor. When you approach her she snarls and charges you with massive amounts of poison damage. Then you die, then you repeat, then you die again.
Pro tip, roll a sorceress and get the flame walk ability. You can kite her around the circle in the adjoining room and she’ll burn to death.
9. MephistoImage
Mephisto's artwork. Anyone else notice that he's missing legs?
Mephisto is the final boss of act III in Diablo II. He is the Lord of Hatred and looks like a grown up version of the freaky alien face huggers. He had been imprisoned under the temple in Kurast but had been released when his brothers, Diablo and Baal, swept through town.
Mephisto was worse than Andariel since he was both stronger and had an even larger horde of enemy minions waiting to tear you a new one. This boss usually took a few tries.
8. BaalImage
Baal looking sinister after blowing up a Barbarian on the slopes of Mount Arreat.
Baal, the Lord of Destruction, has his heart set on destroying the World Stone on Mount Arreat. The Barbarian lands have been overrun by demons and you had to get there and save the World Stone before Baal got too it. Unfortunately you are too late and the stone has been corrupted. Tyrael has to destroy it and it sets up the events for Diablo 3.
Before you fight Baal at the end of the Diablo II expansion pack you have to mow your way through several waves of some of the game's most difficult minions. Baal is guarded by several elite and rare mobs that make your life hell as you try to survive. When you finally get to Baal it doesn't get any easier. The big bad monster has a curse that causes you to take a ridiculous amount of damage from all of his abilities. After cursing you he starts melting your face off with fiery novas and other elemental attacks. The worst part about this fight is that you can't run away. Baal can teleport to where you are, and he can also summon appendages that come out of the ground anywhere on the map.
7. Diablo (Diablo II)Image
By far the coolest artwork done for the Diablo franchise.
Obviously Diablo was the final boss of the last act in Diablo 2. You had descended into Hell chasing after the devil, and you finally confront him in his massive shrine. Hell had grown unstable without the three higher evils around. Can you believe it? Hell had grown unstable. Anyway, Diablo had come back to assert himself as King once again, until you show up and kill him of course.
Diablo spawns only after you release all the seals in the building. Once that is done you fight a huge wave of demons, and then the devil himself. What makes this fight so scary is the fact that he can trap you in a bone prison and then wreck you with lightning and fire. He has some of the hardest hitting skills in the game that you have to dodge, but if you’re stuck in prison you cant.
6. The Skeleton KingImage
Going back in time to Diablo I. The Original Skeleton King.
The Skeleton King came back in Diablo 3 after starring as a boss in Diablo 1. Technically the Butcher beat the Skeleton King as the very first boss in the franchise, but the Skeleton King came right after. The Butcher also didn’t have a massive horde of skeleton archers to protect him. The archers are by far the most difficult part of this fight since the Skeleton King will try to chop you up while you deal with them.
The Skeleton King is the tragic result of King Leoric going mad due to the influence of Diablo. After executing most of his family and loyal followers, he slowly succumbed to death and became the haunting Skeleton King that wandered the cathedral beneath Tristram.
5. MalthaelImage
Malthael after his transformation to the Angel of Death.
The last boss of the franchise is Malthael, the Angel of Death. Well he was the Angel of Wisdom, but death sounded cooler I guess. He decided that there is only freedom and hope in death, and so everything and everyone has to die. That is the short version of his story.
This guy was unusually tough compared to the other bosses in the game. Add to the fact that most players played the game on expert difficulty or higher since they got an experience boost from it, and Malthael was nearly unbeatable. It sounds silly, but it was humiliating to have to drop the difficulty back down to normal in order to beat this guy when I could beat all the other bosses on master difficulty.
The Malthael fight has several phases that make him untouchable. He gets a force field around him that kills you very quikly if it touches you. When the second phase of the fight begins, Malthael will start shooting out red fire all over the map. It will kill you if it hits you and so you have to hide in the only one spot avaliable on the map.
4. BelialImage
This platform is small and difficult to fight on for ranged classes.
The lesser evil and the Lord of Lies decided to come out to play in Diablo 3. Only he and Azmodan remained alive among all of the Lords of Hell. He took over the Kingdom of Caldeum by impersonating the little emperor boy. Unfortunately for him his plan was foiled by the player in act 2 of Diablo 3.
He wasn’t really all that hard of a boss… as long as you were a tanky class. The platform you fight the boss on was very small and made the fight very difficult for Demon Hunters specifically. Most Demon Hunter players died multiple times on their first play through while trying to beat Belial.
3. The SiegebreakerImage
Nom Nom Nom. You can quickly become the Sigebreakers next meal.
The Siegebreaker is not a single unit with a vendetta against the player, but rather a part of a large group of units trained to kill in hell. The Siegebreaker shows up as a massive and painful boss in act 3 of Diablo III. He must be defeated to gain access to Arreat Crater so that you can reach Azmodan. This is much easier said than done though.
The Siegebreaker is by far the largest boss in the game, and his size does him justice. He is very difficult and most softcore players have gotten their butts handed to them multiple times by this monstrosity. The most important and perhaps difficult thing to avoid in this fight is the Siegebreakers grab attack. He picks the player up, roars at them, and then smashes them into the ground. It is just as brutal as it sounds. This marks the spot where thousands of noob players died.
2. The Cow KingImage
The Hordes of hell... or Aunt Bettie's farm are coming for you.
There is a secret cow level! This was probably the greatest thing ever created by Blizzard. We all know that Diablo III has a secret world with rainbows and unicorns, but it still can’t compare with Diablo II’s cow level. You combine Wirt’s Leg and a Tome of Town Portals in the Horadric Cube and a red portal to the Secret Cow Level opens up.
In the level you will find hordes upon hordes of bovines walking on their hind legs while trying to kill you with massive halberds. The whole time they shout “moo, moo, moo.” It’s quite entertaining really. In order to stop the mad cow assault, you have to defeat the Cow King. Beware though, the king is guarded by a massive legion of bovines that will surround you and moo you to death.
1. DurielImage
Duriel... The absolute hardest boss in the franchise
I know that everyone finds different bosses to be difficult, but if there had to be one boss across the entire franchise that was the hardest it would be Duriel. At the end of Act II you hop through a portal into a very small cave where Duriel, the lesser evil in the form of a nasty slug murders you over and over.
Duriel has extremely high crit damage coupled with the cold element. Essentially, if he gets you once, you will die. The worst part about this fight is that you are not prepared. Often due to latency issues you would hop into the portal and the game would finish loading with you dead on the other side. You have to react quick or Duriel eats your face.
