If you ever insisted to your friends that you could indeed make it out of a horror movie alive, unlike those stupid teenagers in the movies, here's your chance to prove it! Friday the 13th puts you in the shoes of either Jason himself or a camp counselor. While every single one of us has a little bit of Jason Voorhees inside of us, it's absolutely necessary to test your survival skills as a counselor. However, not all counselors are created equal. Just like the movies before it, the camp gives us a variety of horror movie character troupes from the jock to the nerd to the flirt. Depending on your style of gameplay, you may find one character better to play with than another. And always remember to utilize your player's strengths! Here is my rating of the characters from worst to best.
Character Stats and Their Importance
Every character is rated on composure, luck, repair, speed, stamina, stealth, and strength.
- Composure is the character's ability to stay calm under scary conditions and is commonly considered the most important of the qualities. Jason will find you if you are stuck shaking in your boots. Being calm will also help your counselor escape Jason's grasp if necessary.
- High luck adds a kick to a character's stats and keeps weapons intact a little longer.
- Repair determines how quickly you can repair the phone booth, car, or the boat. While there is a slight increase in repair time with high intelligence, it's hardly the most useful quality in the game.
- Speed is self-explanatory. You run faster. Speed is rendered almost useless if Jason has the Shift ability. Be prepared to fight in that situation.
- Stamina is your counselor's endurance. Everyone gets tired after a while. Low stamina could leave you gasping for breath until you get an axe in the head.
- Stealth makes it harder for Jason to detect the counselor.
- Strength helps inflict more damage.
10. Tiffany Cox "the flirty girl"
The flirty girl usually dies first in the movies... and the game
- Composure- 3
- Luck- 4
- Repair- 1
- Speed- 6
- Stamina- 9
- Stealth- 10
- Strength- 2
While Tiffany may be cute and the most likely to go skinny-dipping, she's not the most useful counselor. Have another character fix the items, and don't count on her to fight Jason, either. Her best strategy is to hide until Jason gets close and then run like hell. At least she can run long distances because of her high stamina. This would be the first character to sacrifice if necessary.
9. Vanessa Jones "the athletic girl"
Fast and long-winded, but her athleticism doesn't always help in battle
- Composure- 3
- Luck- 6
- Repair- 2
- Speed- 10
- Stamina- 9
- Stealth- 1
- Strength- 4
Vanessa is as fast as they come with high stamina as well. However, she is loud as hell and cannot hide from Jason very well. She is the quickest for Jason to spot. If you are looking to use a strategy of hiding, this is not the character for you. You will get caught, and you will have to use your speed to run away from Jason. This character is high risk, and you limit your gameplay options.
8. Deborah Kim "the bookish girl"
Nerdy but cute. Plus, she knows how to fix stuff.
- Composure- 5
- Luck- 3
- Repair- 10
- Speed- 4
- Stamina- 3
- Stealth- 9
- Strength- 1
Naturally intelligent, this sexy librarian type is best utilized repairing the necessary item throughout the game. Her stealth also helps keep her hidden from Jason while other distract him and allow her to repair. With low stamina and speed, don't try to outrun Jason with this character. It just won't happen. This isn't the best character for a physical confrontation, either.
7. Eric Lachappa "the nerd"
Another nerd to help fix items
- Composure- 4
- Luck- 5
- Repair- 10
- Speed- 3
- Stamina- 2
- Stealth- 8
- Strength- 3
Like Deborah, Eric has a level ten repair, low stamina, and high stealth. The main difference is that Deborah has slightly better composure, and she looks better in the nerd glasses. These two are honestly interchangeable.
6. Chad Kensington "the preppy kid"
Lucky and fast, but a scardy-cat who will get on Jason's radar
- Composure- 1
- Luck- 10
- Repair- 2
- Speed- 9
- Stamina- 4
- Stealth- 6
- Strength- 3
Like he didn't have it good enough already with his pretty blue eyes and wavy, blonde hair, Chad is the guy with all of the luck. Weapons last longer, and things just generally go in his favor more often. However, he's not the toughest guy in the crowd. Jason can smell his fear, making his speed dangerously necessary.
5. Kenny Riedell "the head counselor"
A jack of all trades, but he doesn't shine in any one department
- Composure- 5
- Luck- 5
- Repair- 5
- Speed- 5
- Stamina- 5
- Stealth- 5
- Strength- 5
Obviously number five on the list, Kenny is our head counselor/ leader archetype. You can just smell the combination of dirt, bug spray, and campfire smoke coming from him. Kenny can do it all, but he can't do it all well. With level 5 stats across the board, Kenny may not be the strongest, the quickest, or the brightest, but he's still relatively strong, quick, and bright. Can be utilized in any capacity, but there is always a better man (or woman) for the job.
4. Jenny Myers "the final girl"
Even the final girl can make you shake your head at times
- Composure- 10
- Luck- 8
- Repair- 2
- Speed- 3
- Stamina- 5
- Stealth- 6
- Strength- 1
Jenny is the quintessential girl next door. With a last name like Myers and being the representative of “the final girl” archetype, I expected a lot from this character. While she has the highest composure stat of the bunch, her lack of speed and strength make it harder for her to physically fight Jason. Luckily, her luck helps prevent her weapons from breaking. With average stamina, she can run for a little bit, but don't make that your strategy. Her bravery and luck still make her a solid choice
3. Adam Palomino "the edgy guy"
Tough and calm, but he's not stealthy
- Composure- 7
- Luck- 2
- Repair- 6
- Speed- 5
- Stamina- 4
- Stealth- 3
- Strength- 8
Adam is our resident badass. He can repair items just fine, but if someone with a higher repair stat is available, they can do it faster. He has high composure but low stealth, making it difficult to avoid confrontation with Jason. Luckily, with his high strength, bravery, and speed he's most valuable inflicting some damage on Jason and keeping him away from the other counselors.
2. A.J. Mason "the rocker chick"
The girl from the wrong side of the tracks knows how to keep a low profile and survive
- Composure- 7
- Luck- 1
- Repair- 7
- Speed- 4
- Stamina- 4
- Stealth- 10
- Strength- 2
This bad ass chick knows how to dodge a murderer with her high stealth and composure stats. If your game plan is to stay hidden, AJ Mason is your best bet. However, stay around lucky people to help make up for your low luck and strength stats. The level seven repair stat also makes you valuable in fixing items, even under stressful situations.
1. Brandon “Buggzy” Wilson "the jock"
A fighter with speed and stamina and an all around top notch character. Plus, he's a stud muffin.
- Composure- 4
- Luck- 2
- Repair- 1
- Speed- 8
- Stamina- 8
- Stealth- 2
- Strength- 10
Brandon is our resident jock. He's fast, and he will endure. Most importantly, with his level ten strength, he's most valuable inflicting some damage on Jason. He's first up to battle, and he can keep Jason distracted from the people fixing things and hiding.
Knowing how to best utilize your character will help you and all of the other counselors survive. Good luck!
