WW2 was a pivotal moment in the history of the world, and the loss of life was tremendous. But far from the bloody violence on the battlefield, the war is fought by generals strategizing in war rooms.
Gary Grigsby’s ‘War in the East 2’ opens a window into how these strategic wars are fought by putting players at the helm of the defining strategies for Nazi Germany’s war with Russia on the Eastern Front during World War 2.
This approach is contrary to the traditional approach to WW2 games, which generally involves loads of first-person shooter violence. ‘War in the East 2’ is a revised and polished version of the original ‘War in the East’ with developers reportedly having gone to great lengths to improve the game and make it more ‘historically rich.’
‘War in the East 2’ has a rebuilt AI opponent to make for a greater strategic challenge. The game also includes new features which allow the game to present a more accurate impact of terrain on troop and supply movements etc.
Besides the reworked AI, a much richer, more in-depth historical background, ‘War in the East 2’ also includes a significantly larger front for players to work with, having 106 hexes instead of the original 87 from the original ‘War in the East’. This adds to the complexity of the strategy and troop movements and allows for a more detailed and in-depth experience on the Eastern Front.
‘War in the East 2’ is developed by ‘2by3 Games’ and is available for purchase on Steam.
