Thanks to Covid19, most of us are cooped up inside the house with little to do. Fortunately, although the year has hardly begun, many great action comedies have been released, and what’s coming up later in the year is also looking pretty good. This list of top 25 action comedy movies includes this year’s best, and also upcoming releases that we have high expectations for.

25. Coffee and Kareem

Coffee and Kareem is the cop movie you didn’t know you needed. It centers around Kareem and Coffee, a kid and a police officer, who are on the run from criminals after accidentally exposing their illegal activity. The cause of all this just so happened to be  Kareem wanting to wreck the relationship between his mom… and Officer Coffee.

24. Bad Trip

Bad Trip is all about Chris Carey,Bud Malone, and their absolutely wild cross-country adventure. Along the way Carey and Malone leave a trail of mayhem and pure chaos in their wake, with the end goal being Chris aiming to confess his love to his crush, Maria. What really makes the movie is the closing credits, which reveals the reactions of real people to the movie’s real pranks.

23. Impractical Jokers: The Movie

Nothing like a road trip movie during quarantine, because if we can’t go out the next best thing is watching others go out, right? After crashing a concert back in the day, Joe, Sal, Murr, and Q rise to fame and are approached by the singer whose concert they had ruined. They are invited to a party, but there are only three tickets. This road trip comedy features a group of four friends desperately trying to out prank each other for the sake of a party ticket.

22. Buffaloed

When you get the chance to go to an Ivy League School but can’t afford it, does that mean it’s time to give up on  your dream? For Peg Dahl, definitely not. In order to get the funds to go where she wants to, Dahl takes up the dubious work of a debt collector. In her questionable line of work, it’s basically a given that not everything’s smooth sailing, and it’s up to Dahl to take care of these problems.

21. Trolls World Tour

Although it may be a kids movie, Trolls World Tour is still a movie worth checking out. In this sequel, it is revealed that there are more than one type of troll, and there is one troll who aims to destroy all of their worlds except for one. This leads to a grand adventure where the queen troll, Poppy, and her companions must unite to save their people from annihilation.

Though a kids movie, audiences still found it enjoyable, especially with its great soundtrack.

20. Like a Boss

The action part of this is mostly in the cat-fighting, but that’s no reason to discount it. In this movie buddies Mia and Mel are faced with a huge debt, and lo behold, Claire Luna swoops in with an irresistible offer. However, Claire Luna’s deal turns out to be not-so-great, and Mia and Mel have to figure out how to work together and get their brand back.

19. The Whistlers

This one isn’t so much of a comedy, but it’ll for sure give you plenty of action. In The Whistlers, police officer Cristi heads to an island to learn a unique whistling language. However, he also happens to learn of a plot dealing with drug money and other aspects of an underground world. In this one, the stakes and the tensions are high.

There isn’t much of a comedy aspect to this movie, but if you’re looking for action this is the one.

18. Bulletproof 2

This action comedy features special agent Jack Carter going undercover as criminal Archie Moses in order to take down a South African Crime family. However, somewhere something went wrong and the real Archie Moses, ends up at risk. The two must work together to survive and ruin an international criminal scheme.

17. Dolittle

Adventure for Dr. Dolittle and his crew lies across the sea.

In this production, Dr. Dolittle is tasked with saving Queen Victoria by traveling to a magical land with his crew of humans and animals to retrieve a certain fruit. On his voyage he must evade the attacks of his lifelong enemy Dr. Blair Mudfly, and escape from other perilous situations. On top of having some top-of the line actors, the visuals in this movie are nothing short of masterful.

16. Debt Collectors

Although it has yet to be released, Debt Collectors is a promising action comedy to keep an eye out for. In this movie, French and Sue are thrown into danger while picking up money for their boss. The job is less simple than it appeared to be, for involved are an ex-lover and a drug kingpin out to get them.

15. Kung Fury 2

Kung Fury 2 is the sequel to the short movie Kung Fury, although they aren’t really related except for the main character. This movie is all about the renegade martial arts master cop whose goal is to defeat the evil Kung Fuhrer. Kung Fury travels through time and space to assemble his forces to bring down evil once and for all.

Some of the most entertaining movies are the ones with the least coherent plots, and "Kung Fury 2" looks to be exactly that.

14. Spy Intervention

For a while, Cory Gage was the world’s greatest spy, but then he fell in love and gave up his life of danger for a plain one. And a plain, boring, spiceless one it is, although Gage refuses to admit it. However, when a world-threatening plot enters the equation, Gage decides that returning to his old job will take care of two birds with one stone: protecting the world and reviving his marriage.

An ordinary marriage might be enough for most, but if you’ve lived the spy life, than you might need a little more spice in order to make it happen.

13. Birds of Prey

Birds of Prey is the sequel, but not really, to Suicide Squad that features Harley Quinn among other ladies shaking things up in Gotham. After breaking up with the Joker, Harley is devastated and after a nightclub fiasco, allies herself with singer Dinah Lance. The plot thickens when a diamond and pickpocket Cassandra Cain get involved. The girls and their friends must find a way to outwit the men chasing them in order to stay alive and take revenge.

12. The Main Event

This Netflix movie is all about a young kid named Leo Thompson who dreams of becoming the next big WWE star. After being attacked by his bullies, he discovered a magical mask that grants him super speed in strength. But will the mask be enough to carry him to champion status?

11. Fast and Furious 9

Fast and Furious Fans should expect the same mix of fast paced action and comedy they love from this next instalment in the series. In this movie, the old crew must face off against Jakob, Dominic’s younger brother. Also thrown into the mix is Cipher, an old enemy who’s out for revenge.

10. Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984 has yet to be released, but it looks to deliver the same blend of action and comedy that made its predecessor a hit. In this movie, Diana is expected to reunite with old fling Steve Trevor, who supposedly met an untimely end in the first movie. The big villains this time are possibly businessman Maxwell Lord and a friend from her past, Cheetah.

This next block in the DCU has great visuals and a spectacular soundtrack that work perfectly with the plot.

9. The King’s Man

Although it is part of the same series, The King’s Man is not a continuation of  the Kingsman series, but rather a prequel. Not much has been released about it yet, but from the looks of it, it is set during a war time period, and we’ll be looking for some refined gents to save the day. If it’s anything at all like the last two Kingsman movies, then it’ll for sure be an action packed hoot.

8. Lego DC: Shazam!: Magic and Monsters

So far the Lego DC universe has yet to disappoint, and this one is no exception. In this movie, hero Shazam teams up with the Justice League to defeat evil, but when they are captured and turned into children, chaos ensues. To make matters worse, Black Adam appears and Shazam and the Justice League must figure out how to deal with him while trying to return to their adult forms.

7. Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog is yet another animated action comedy here to give fans what they deserve. While it might be targeted toward children, that doesn’t mean everyone of all ages can’t enjoy it. The movie is about Sonic, an extraterrestrial, who just so happened to appear on Earth and cause a power outage. Villain Doctor Robotnik is in charge of finding him, and soon becomes obsessed with capturing Sonic.

Although fans had fears when the first pictures of this movie were released, those fears were dispelled soon after the movie released and charmed audiences.

6. Guns Akimbo

This action comedy is a new take, and quite an interesting one at that too. Former normal person Miles Lee Harris is turned into a player of a game that involves criminals and psychopaths after he makes fun of people who enjoy watching the bloody battles. He is then forced to go on the run as he is pitted against the game’s most dangerous killer.

5. Onward

This animated movie is comedy packed, and also an action-filled heartwarming adventure. The story is centered around two elf brothers attempting to bring their father back after he mysteriously disappeared a while back. In their journey, they meet many other creatures, and face perils that force them to take risks to survive.

"Onward" is a great movie that’ll bring out all the warm and fuzzy feels just like great movies are bound to do.

4. Free Guy

Although this movie has yet to be released, many are expecting it to be good. This action comedy is yet another take on the digital world mixing with the real one. An ordinary NPC character breaks the fourth wall and tries to make himself the main character to save his game before it is shut down by developers.

3. My Spy

Action comedies with spies are always hit or miss, and this one looks like it’ll be a hit. My Spy is about Agent JJ who’s a little less subtle than he should be, which causes him to be given a final chance to prove he can be on intelligence before he is given the boot. However, he is caught by Sophie, a kid, and in return for her silence he must teach her how to be a spy.

This action comedy reminds us it’s not what’s on the outside but what’s on the inside that matters, though that doesn’t mean what’s on the outside isn’t important.

2. The Gentlemen

Mickey Pearson is the owner of a successful marijuana empire, which he is planning to cash out of. This grabs the attention of many people, more than a few of them with shady backgrounds, who want what he has. Many plots are contrived to steal Pearson’s empire, which keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

1. Bad Boys For Life

This movie is the third in the Bad Boys trilogy, and as is often said, save the best for last. In Bad Boys for Life, Mike Lowry and Marcus Burnett team up one last time to take down the wife and son of a Mexican drug lord. However, their methods are old school, and in order to keep up with the younger elites, they’ll have to learn some new tricks.
