10. Samurai Jack
You know your childhood was the best if you grew up with Jack. The show aired during the years when Cartoon Network City was a thing (and before crappy reboots like Teen Titans Go existed).
After almost 13 years of waiting, wondering, and wishing for closure, the creator finally gave us its final season.
Not on CN, hell no. On Adult Swim (as it should).
Despite how more violent the show has become in its final season, Jack has not changed one bit (and we’re not just saying that because he never aged due to Aku sending him to the future).
With how much Cartoon Network has changed since the 2010s (for better or worse), it’s just great to have Jack back.
9. Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated
Being a Hanna-Barbera cash cow for years, some of us half-expected this series to flop really quickly.
Boy, were we wrong.
This show is dark AF. And the romantic plot issues don’t hurt either.
While we’re all on board the FredxDaphne ship, seeing the rarely-questioned VelmaxShaggy pairing actually explored is what got a lot of fans’ attention.
While some of us were okay with them being friends, we have to agree that Velma being dumped for a dog was pretty cold. But we all know she could do so much better (no offense, Shag).
People have often described this show as a mix of classic Hanna-Barbera with SAW. That’s something you’d probably only hear on Robot Chicken.
There were a lot of plotholes and unnecessary segments that made the series questionable. Even the series finale is considered a huge WTF though it was basically a happy ending for the gang.
We can all agree that this was WAY better than the Be Cool! Series though.
8. The Veggietales Show
I remember the first time I was introduced to this show. I was like 8 and received a sing-along VHS tape for my birthday. That was before I realized this was a Christian cartoon. And still the best after all these years.
Well, except for the “In the House” years after Big Idea went bankrupt and Dreamworks thought they had a solid idea on how to make the show “better”. By making them look like 3-D John Kricfalusi abominations (I still shudder at what they did to Jimmy and Jerry).
It was practically a crime to get rid of Mr. Nezzer and replace him with that Squidward knock-off.
Thankfully, after that show got cancelled, The Veggietales Show happened. And we got back the characters we grew up with. Including Nezzer.
Now the new generation can watch with the old generation!
It’s childhood all over again with more songs, more fun, and more of why it’s the best Christian cartoon there is!
7. Muppet Babies
Out of all the “adult characters are kids” shows, this one was the most memorable.
Okay, maybe Yo Yogi! might have had some lovers, but the Muppets as babies was a show still talked about today.
So how awesome was it that Disney brought the show back?
With the amazing talents of Eric Bauza and Dee Bradley Baker, we get to play with the Muppets again!
What I really love about this reboot and how it does it better than the original: Animal actually looks like Animal.
And the addition of Summer was actually a great idea. And Rizzo being a regular guest on the show was definitely needed! (Because having Gonzo without Rizzo feels WRONG)
What makes this reboot even more awesome is the roles Statler and Waldorf play! I didn’t even know they were in the original series, so imagine my surprise seeing them in the reboot!
And just to humor our nostalgia, they’re still watching the Muppets...from their own personal balcony!
6. Danger Mouse
A hit in the 80s, taking over the 21st century by storm. Newer, slicker, and much more cocky than his original, DM never fails to wow us over.
And Penfold never fails to make us laugh!
Sometimes you prefer the characters in the original. But mostly you ended up falling in love with their reboot versions.
In this case, they made DM oh, so charming and not the slightly pathetic POS he sometimes was in the classic. Penfold made an improvement from being the unwitting sidekick to the incredibly loyal best friend that every person needs.
All the characters, both good and evil, are pretty hardcore. My favorite is Dawn Crumhorn: incredibly cute, incredibly spoiled, and incredibly evil!
And a lot of us actually do ship DM and Professor Squawkencluck, okay?
5. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
As someone who didn’t grow up in the 80s, I barely knew about the original. But one look at it and I realize that the reboot did it justice (animation has come a long, long way).
Cartoons have come a long way, especially with LGBT stuff becoming the norm.
The reboot has made the characters more relatable, with realistic issues we face today.
A lot of tears get shed pretty easily when you watch this show. A lot of pain and anguish with every episode.
So think of it as a mix of Steven Universe and Infinity Train.
4. Looney Tunes Cartoons
While The Looney Tunes Show did satisfy us, this show on HBO Max gave us modernized nostalgia.
I’m talking about bringing back those old days when Bugs would screw with Elmer Fudd. When Daffy Duck was a wacky wonder (before he became that cynical, greedy bastard). And Yosemite being Yosemite.
Once again, Eric Bauza provides his amazing voice talents. He was able to revive every character of our childhood. Mel Blanc would be so proud!
3. Ducktales
We grew up with Nicktoons, Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, and especially the amazing days of Disney Afternoon.
Among Goof Troop and Tail Spin, Ducktales was a very special show that we still love talking about today.
Personally, I do think the reboot is great, save for a few things I disagree on. Like the voices they chose for the triplets (and making Dewey an unlikable attention whore). Oh, yeah, and Donald does NOT deserve the sh*t he gets on this show.
And while bringing the triplets’ mom makes this reboot interesting, Della will still be my least favorite character for a number of reasons you just might agree on.
I do love that The Three Cabrillios reunited! With a family like Donald’s, it's a relief he’s got Panchito and Jose! And, of course, Daisy. (One of the better versions too!)
Do I like this reboot? Yes.
Do I consider this better than the original? Don’t go there.
2. Animaniacs
There were a lot of shows from the 90s we wished would come back. Animaniacs was the show we probably yearned for the most.
When they first announced this show coming back, the world rejoiced.
The Warner siblings are those friends who you REALLY need in your life. You need their kind of chaos to make things not boring.
Always roasting the people that deserve to be roasted.
Spitting facts about society that makes us laugh.
And let’s not forget Pinky and Brain. Still trying to take over the world even after all these years.
Can’t wait for the Tiny Toons reboot! (no joke, it’s really coming!)
1. Jellystone!
This year marks 30 since the last Yogi Bear cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera (which led to their fall).
And it was this year that The Chosen One known as C.H. Greenblatt brought it all back.
Being the creator of Chowder and Harvey Beaks, was there ever any doubt this show would be a success?
For any of the “nostalgists” who are complaining about dumb sh*t like:
“Yogi’s not a doctor!”
“Baba Looey doesn’t have a Mexican accent!”
“They turned Shag black!”
And the ever popular “Why did they genderbent most of the characters?”.
If you can’t accept the transition of some old cartoons that most of us didn’t even know existed until now...what does that say about you if a friend or family member ever came out as trans?
And FYI, I used to dislike Jabberjaw as a kid; the Curly Howard personality just didn’t cut it for me. But thanks to Greenblatt, now I adore her.
In all honesty, what Greenblatt did with the HB characters was very well-needed. And very much a blessing.
An absolute IMPROVEMENT.
