[Top 10] Best Romantic Cartoons

Best Romantic Cartoons

Do you remember when you were a kid and developed a crush on a fictional character?

And often envisioned their love interest as yourself?

We're adults now.

And we're still doing that.

But on a much more "not suitable for children" level.

10. Monster High

At Monster High, you see all kinds! Vampires, wolves, zombies, and especially half-normies! Join Frankie, Clawdeen, Draculaura, and Cleo and let your freak flag fly!

“Why Do Ghouls Fall in Love?” is my absolute favorite of all the MH movies.

When you were 16 (or 1600), did you ever wish you could have a relationship as romantic as Draculaura and Clawd?

Because some of us single adults still envy this couple today!

9. Codename: Kids Next Door

In a world where kids fight adult tyranny, the Kids Next Door make it their daily mission. Numbuh 1 is the leader of Sector V, one of the organization’s top teams. Their missions often involve fighting homework-eating werehounds, spanking vampires, or stealing the birthday cake from the notorious The Delightful Children from Down the Lane. Either you’re in, or you’re old.

How is it that 10-year-olds can get more dates than most of us adults?!

Favorite couples like Kuki and Wally and Abigail and Hoagie make us wish we could find love like that.

But not like the teenage characters. Or the adults. They make romance look disgusting and borderline insane.

8. Blazing Dragons

Knights and dragons! Except instead of fighting dragons, the knights ARE the dragons. Flicker, a squire soon to become a knight himself, joins the merry yet wacky crew of Sir Loungealot, Sir Blaze, and Sir Burnevere. All under the rule of King Allfire in the land of Camelhot.

An underrated show I remember fondly from the Toon Disney era. It was always the Flicker and Princess Flame moments that really got me.

Secret lovers from two different social classes. And a damsel who is never distressed and often does the saving.

I will always cherish season 1. And pretend season 2 never existed.

7. Littlest Pet Shop (2012)

When her dad accepts a promotion, Blythe Baxter is moved to the big city. They move into an apartment above a business called Littlest Pet Shop. At first the animals in the day camp seem like normal pets. Until the moment Blythe realizes she can actually understand them. With this newfound gift a secret, Blythe and her new animal friends explore every day in her new home.

I preferred this over Friendship is Magic (don’t @ me, bronies).

When human love can be so boring, romance between adorable animals is the next best thing (besides furry and interspecies love, of course).

It really did suck how this series was doing so well, yet went downhill in its last season (and the finale was BS).

But what really captured our hearts was the potential romances between the pets: Sunil and Pepper, Russell and Minka, and especially Vinnie and Penny Ling.

Blythe and that random dude that had no personality whatsoever...no.

Believe it or not, fans actually shipped Blythe and Russell (who is a HEDGEHOG) because they had more chemistry together (as weird as that sounds).

6. The Dragon Prince

Two brothers flee when their kingdom is under attack. Losing both their home and their father, the two must find allies to reclaim the throne. Along the way, they meet an elf who refused her role as a would-be assassin. On the hunt by their uncle, the three must prevent their kingdom from going under something so sinister.

The love between a prince and an elf is all I’m for in this series.

Of course, the magic, dragons, and stuff is good too!

5. The Amazing World of Gumball

Elmore is a weird, wacky, chaotic town smackdab somewhere in the US (California according to the map). And Gumball and his community are as normal for their own standards. While the rest of the world is possibly normal (and boring), Elmore is it’s own amazing world. Maybe too amazing.

Gumball and Penny.

Darwin and Carrie.

Nicole and Richard.

Alan and Carmen.

Hell, even Principal Brown and Miss Simian.

There was literally an episode called “The Love”.

4. Clone High

Imagine historical figures suddenly being cloned. As teenagers attending a definitely normal high school. And despite being copies of people from history, they’re far from the original. Joan of Arc is a goth. John Kennedy is a horn dog. And Ghandi is a desperate virgin. They say history repeats itself, but they never mentioned it would be this complicated.

The love triangles and budding romances are what keep me watching. Other than the brilliant references to actual history.

Because teenage dramas are stupid and unoriginal.

But use one to make fun of history and destroy racial stereotypes and I’m hooked!

3. American Dragon: Jake Long

Jake Long is a teenager with a family secret (minus his dad who has absolutely no idea): he’s a dragon. While dealing with mythical creatures and battling hunters is part of his daily life, he always finds the time to hang out with his best friends. Or find moments getting one step closer to his crush Rose...who also harbors a secret of her own.

Show of hands, how many preferred the characters design in season 1 to the cheap-ass one Disney insisted in season 2?

While I could go on about how this show was unfairly underrated and cancelled before it could reach true, TRUE potential, there’s something more important to discuss.

Jake and Rose were Romeo and Juliet. Except neither of them had to die for the other and it actually was a happily ever after.

Thinking about it, they had to be one of Disney’s earliest interracial couples.

And they were better than most of the royal couples that always got most of the merch.

2. Teen Titans

Five teens from different backgrounds with extraordinary skills band together to protect the city they call home. Aliens, half-humans, mutants, and the most notorious of humanity are a daily part of their teenage lives. But keep in mind that they are teens, and they have fun when they get the chance.

EVERYONE remembers this show.

And we’re thinking the same thing: We want that 6h season. And Teen Titans GO! needs to die.

The romantic plots that occurred in this show are how we always hoped to have when we were teens. We all wished we were as lucky as Starfire and Robin.

The one thing I will never forgive reboot for is destroying the Robin x Starfire romance. The creators REALLY love to torment Robin and make Starfire a f*cking moron.

Not sure if the shipping wars are still going even after the 2000s (at least they’re not as bad as the ones from Star Vs. the Forces of Evil), but either Raven or Terra could have worked for Beast Boy.

Fun fact: the voice actors for Beast Boy and Terra played two characters in Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go who fell in love too.

1. Phineas and Ferb

Brothers Phineas and Ferb decide to fight summer boredom and come up with wacky, creative ways to have fun. Whether it’s building a rocket, or fighting a mummy, or somehow driving their sister insane. It’s never a dull moment with Phineas and Ferb making every moment interesting!

Candace and Jeremy are relationship goals. ‘Nuff said.
