10. Cagney Carnation
Don’t let his flowery appearance fool you. He’s thorns all around when you start fighting him. With his energy coming from sun and soil, it’ll take a lot of willpower to uproot this guy.
What’s Great About Cagney Carnation:
- Inspiration comes from Audrey, from Little Shop of Horrors.
- His ability to turn into a gun and shoot seeds at you
- His unique way of regaining health (by relying on sun and soil)
9. Sally Stageplay
Inkwell Isles’ most famous starlet, the world is her stage. Graceful, artistic, and fair, she’s quite the hard boss. Lose to her and it’s curtains for you.
What’s Great About Sally Stageplay:
- Her boss battle takes place on a literal stage.
- Her ability to fight and entertain you at the same time.
- Her costumes change during battle.
8. Goopy Le Grande
This dude’s a total slimeball (literally and metaphorically). Always bragging about his looks and abilities, he makes that very clear while fighting. When you take out this guy, try not to damage that “pretty little face” too much.
What’s Great About Goopy Le Grande:
- His “Grave Danger” attack (becomes a tombstone and clobbers you like a Whomp from Mario)
- His boxing abilities during your battle.
- The only boss who doesn’t need minions to attack.
7. Baroness Von Bon Bon
Crazy and high on sugar, this royal will defend her candy castle. You thought Vanellope’s world of Sugar Rush was absurd, this lady’s candy comrades will end you. If you don’t beat her, it’s off with your head!
What’s Great About Baroness Von Bon Bon:
- She’s based off of famous actresses from the 1930s, which is when the game is set in.
- You fight her living castle, Whippet Creampup, in the final phase of her boss battle.
- Her assortment of candy-based minions (like waffles and gumball machines).
6. Cuphead
Not just a name but a reminder about how awesome the game is, and how even more awesome The Cuphead Show is going to be! Playful and looking for a new adventure, this fellow is all about risks. And it’s that risk that results in him and his brother fighting to reclaim their souls from The Devil!
What’s Great About Cuphead:
- His peashooter ability when in battle.
- His character development during the cutscenes in the game.
- His adventurous, trouble-making personality.
5. Mugman
You think Cuphead is adorable, this guy could knock Kirby and Pikachu off their pedestals. While not exactly adventure-hungry like his brother, Mugman’s worrisome personality is icing on his wholesome character. If anyone messes with him, Cuphead will be there to teach them a lesson.
What’s Great About Mugman:
- His good boy attitude.
- Same attacks as his brother.
- His moral compass.
4. Miss Chalice
Girlish and fiery, she’s part of the Switch version’s DLC package. Just like the boys, she enjoys action and is not afraid to fight. Minnie Mouse may have had her moments, but this little gal can end you while strutting her heels.
What’s Great About Miss Chalice:
- She’s now a playable character on Switch.
- Her side adventure in the DLC.
- Has the same fighting abilities as Cuphead and Mugman.
3. Cala Maria
Beautiful as she is deadly, she’ll turn the tides against you. Fish, eels, and octopi are at her command as you duke it out. And don’t let her pretty face deter you from the fact she will go Medusa on your ass.
What’s Great About Cala Maria:
- She’s been rated the most popular/discussed female character in the franchise.
- Her design was inspired by Betty Boop.
- Just like Baroness Von Bon Bon, she becomes a floating head during the final battle phase.
2. The Devil
Sneaky, mischievous, and HELLBENT on owning your soul, never make a deal with him. But, sadly, pretty much every boss you fight has done so, including yourself. As you play, you’ll wonder which is actual Hell: his domain or the game itself.
What’s Great About The Devil:
- His sadistic personality.
- His creatively hell-ish boss battle.
- His flamboyant, charming nature as seen in clips from The Cuphead Show (upcoming Netflix series).
1. King Dice
Even people who never believe in gambling can be swayed by this sharply-dressed conman. When Cuphead and Mugman arrive at The Devil’s casino, he already has them in the palm of his nicely-gloved hand. Never make a deal with the devil, but this charmer can make you say otherwise!
What’s Great About King Dice:
- Practically the most handsomely-designed male character in the franchise (according to the fandom).
- His similarities to The Devil (both in charm and personality).
- His boss battle takes place on a roulette table (complete with Vegas-style fighting).
