Brewing up trouble...

Dark Souls combat is littered with different effects and statuses to alter any encounters. One of the msot unique and specific effects is the Occult auxiliary effect. Riddled in mystery and darkness and only effective on certain enemies, mastering Occult weapons can only be advised to a serious player. There are not many Occult weapons in the game, here is a look at the very best.

5. Dark Hand (Best for humanity based playthrough)

If the player wants to join a covenant that will aid them with the occult and uses of dark magic, look no further than the Darkwraith covenant. The benefits for joining such a crew include Dark Hand and its powerful hand to hand damage dealing. Outside of its wicked appearance and attack power is a remarkable ability to drain and steal opponents' humanity.

What makes Dark Hand great:

- A solid damage output

- Deepening allegiance ups this weapon’s power

- Highest damage of hand to hand weapons

- Left hand use creates a stability shield.

4. Occult Club (best for all round builds)

This is a weapon easily missed. Out of all the pick ups and items available in Anor Londo, this one is often avoided for the fight with a mimic required to collect it. It holds all the hallmarks of the blunt weapon with wide swings and great stagger potential. Yet the bonus damage of occult to some of the games most powerful enemies makes the battle to claim it worthwhile.

What makes Occult Club Great:

- B Scaling in Faith, can reach as high as A

- Upgradable

- Powerful against the games 3 toughest bosses

- Powerful against knight and sentinel sub bosses

3. Velka’s Rapier (Best for Dexterity builds)

Arguably the choice rapier of the game, certainly a dexterity build classic – imbued with occult effect to top it off! Delivering the highest critical attack damage of any piercing sword in the game, this specialist item is as light as a feather. If a player is wanting the best of occult damage output with the conservative play of a thrust weapon, Velka’s Rapier is a must.

What makes Velka’s Rapier Great:

- B scaling in Intelligence

- Significant damage with critical attacks

- Can be upgraded

- Dynamic slash and thrust moveset

2. Upgrading Weapon of Choice (best for completionists)

Well, there are only 4 weapons in the game already imbued with the occult, which leaves finding more of them… up to you. The list of upgradable weapons in Dark Souls is endless and the rewards are just as innumerable. Want a simple straight sword with occult damage bonuses? Go for it. Want a scythe or halberd much the same? Get your weapon to Devine +5 and bring some Dark Ember to Andre at the Undead Parish!

What makes Upgrading Weapon of Choice Great:

- Choice of move sets to suit playstyles

- Weapons can be scaled up to A & S ranking
