Destroy Your Foes With The Best DBFZ Teams

Finding a team that hands "Ls" to your opponent is a thought-provoking process. It takes time and patience, requiring you to find characters that both work well together and embody your play style. Or, you can just slap a bunch of top-tiers on a team and voila: you're a God of Destruction.

3. Bardock and 16 Shell

"Guest Star" (Point)/ Bardock (Mid)/ Android 16 (Anchor)

"Who says I can't be on a winning team?"

"And Whis said I couldn't make it onto a winning squad."

And you thought Goku was the main character of this game.

"You're the one that's gonna die!!!"

"AAAAAAAAAH, SHI—"

When two characters are strong enough to carry a team on their own, they're known less as a "team" and more as a "shell." Bardock and 16 happen to be such a thing, and they're the best of season two. They can do everything on their own, and when it comes to both rushing and locking down your opponent, they work so well together that you can basically 2v3 everyone. But DBFZ teams always require a third character. This requirement gives this shell its selling point: you can use your favorite character in the unoccupied slot.

The trick to winning with this team is simple: get a hit in with Bardock while using 16's assist to cover him. Once you build up to 3 or more meters for a level 3 super—well, you know what to do. Rise and repeat this method until you win, or your opponent rage quits (which is the same thing really).

Your favorite character is the main attraction here, though. If they're not as high tier as you would like, Bardock and 16 act like a nice, soft safety cushion for you to fall back on. Their shell gives you the chance to play your fav without automatically losing at the character select screen. Hopefully, they give you an idea of what other team shells you can use with your favorite in the future.

2. Team Kazunoko (Team Meanies)

Gotenks (Point)/ Adult Gohan (Mid)/ Yamcha (Anchor)

The sign you give the game devs when they make you busted.

When the devs make you top-tier.

One of the best DBZ quotes ever.

We'll put some respect on your name, Yamcha.

DBFZ favors the player that favors the rush-down style: force your opponent to block before they can press any buttons. Gotenks is phenomenal at this. The pressure he can dish out is arguably the best in the game, especially when Adult Gohan and Yamcha back him up. His block strings can last so long that your assists will have actually recharged before your opponent can find any gaps in your offense to capitalize on. Use him to open up your opponent's defenses.

Adult Gohan hits exactly as his name implies. The health bar of whoever he touches tends to explode. His fast-fall ability and long limbs also make it pretty easy for him to get his hits in, and Gotenks and Yamcha's assist make it even easier, Yamcha's especially. So if Gotenks goes down, you can use Yamcha to control the neutral so Adult Gohan can do what he does best: kill people.

Gotenks and Adult Gohan's mischief combined with Yamcha should be enough to win you the match. If your win does happen to fall on Yamcha's shoulders, though, you're not in an impossible position, but you do have a lot of work ahead of you. Zone your opponent out with Ki blast to bait and punish super dashes with a 2H. Play keep-away and claw your way to victory.

1. Team E-Sports

Gotenks (Point)/ Bardock (Mid)/ Android 16 (Anchor)

Banana hair!

"I'll adjust my fabulous leg warmers next."

Peaceful, but has no problem blowing up islands.

Behold the dream team. The three delinquents of Dragon Ball FighterZ banded together with the sole mission to piss off every player that they can reach, and boy, do these characters have a long reach (have you seen Gotenks' JH?). All three of these characters control the game in their own unique way, and on top that, the synergy they have together is just—plain—stupid. Each of their assists can help whichever one of them is on point to confirm combos, extended combos, mount pressure, and deliver crazy mix-ups.

Gotenks is capable of giving himself "oki" (mix-up options after knocking down an opponent) with just his level one super. His aerial Great Special Rolling Kick turns him into a giant spinning hitbox that can get him in to do damage or out of harm's way. He's also really good at building meter, making him an excellent battery for both himself and Bardock's later shenanigans.

Bardock without meter is already a problem since pretty much all of his buttons are amazing. Things like Rebellion Spear can help you escape from sticky situations like corner pressure and help you confirm combos. When he does have meter, you can use him to rain supers down on your opponent like there's no tomorrow. His level 3 is also always the answer to winning games. If you have three meters, do whatever you have to do to hit your opponent with a Bardock level 3.

If by some stroke of luck your opponent somehow manages to take down your Gotenks and your Bardock, then 16 will take care of the rest for you. Once you're down to just him, focus on neutral and abuse his long limbs to score hit-confirms. 16's ability to set himself up for mix-ups and do big-boy damage without assists makes him one the best characters you can have anchoring for you.
