1. Small Backpack (Best for new players)

How to get:

When you want to get to a decent level and are on the grind the Small Backpack is the way to go. It's not helpful later on in the game as you level up, but nothing you use at a low level ever is. A level one can craft these. The Small Backpack is half of what the Standard Backpack is so as soon as possible try to get the Standard Backpack plans. You can find the plans at the Morgantown Airport. 

Item Stats:

• Level: 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50
• Carry Weight: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30

What it excels in:

• Accessibility
• Beginner friendly 

2. Standard Backpack with Refrigerator Mod (Best for food preservation)

How to get:

The total carry weight is cut in half with this mod. However, it keeps food and drinks from spoiling. It is comparable to the Good with Salt Perk. Good with Salt fully upgraded takes three perk points, so it will free up a card if you use it. If you're not using it, the mod will make a difference if you carry food to boost experience. It's never fun to have cranberry relish spoil. No matter the level you craft it, the benefits remain the same. You can get it from the Possum vending machines.

Demon Mr. Fuzzy Backpack 

3. Standard Backpack with Armor Plated Mod. (Best for Damage Resist)

How to get:

If you don’t rock power armor then you need to utilize your resources. This is a great way to get your damage resistance up and have a small increase in carrying capacity. This has a decent amount of damage resistance. The level you craft it at affects the amount of damage resistance you will receive. You can get the plans at Possum vending machines.

• Damage Resist: 90
• Possum Badges: 5

What it excels in:

• Increasing damage resist 
• Protection without power armor
• Small carry weight boost

Mothman Backpack

4. Standard Backpack with the Chemist mod (Best for reducing chems)

How to get:

If you use a lot of chems or have a Junkies build this will be worth considering. The weight reduction is as effective as Traveling Pharmacy for chems AND Stimpaks. I'm saying this louder for the people in the back, STIMPAKS! You can get this from Mortimer for 350 gold bullion but must have a reputation with the Raiders.

• 90% chem reductions
• 90% Stimpak weight reduction 

What it excels in: 

• Junkies build
• Chem/Stim reductions
• Helpful if you auto-stim

5. Standard Backpack with High Capacity Mod (Best for carrying weight)

How to get:

This is triple the size of the Small Backpack. If you are making a supply run this is the best way to save on fusion cores if you use Excavator Power Armor. This will save time by being able to gather more supplies and is ideal for deep-pocketed armor.

• Possum Badges: 8
• Reduces energy resistance 
• Reduces rad resistance 

What it excels in: pack rats

• Supply runs
