15 Fun Ideas For Future Minecraft Updates
What are the best ideas for future updates for Minecraft?

What are the best ideas for future updates for Minecraft?

Some people have started to talk about what kind of imaginary updates could be made for Minecraft. There are some amazing ideas from different forums and/or different social media websites, and all over the internet.

So, let's talk about some successful (and some less so) imaginations for the next big Minecraft update! Let's go!

15. The Desert Update

The desert update is an update imagined as having a lot of different new, cool additions to the game centered around the desert theme.

Let’s talk about some of these additions. The update adds the palm tree, blocks like quicksand, tiny cacti, sandstone bricks, and so on. The update also adds new useful items like coconut, crocodiles, saddlebags, which can be really helpful for storage, and even a new tool called the excavator which shovels an 3x3 area.

There are even ideas for new bosses centered around the desert. Honestly, I could see an update that is surrounded around the desert being pretty cool.
How it Works:

  • The update adds countless new stuff centered around the desert theme.
  • It adds items that can be pretty useful for some things that are lacking in the game, like storage problems especially for our inventory.

14. A New World

The New World update goes so far beyond to actually create a canon and “update-lore” for itself. It’s pretty crazy, and I recommend everyone to go read the entire thing.

Overall, the adds new mobs like the vulture, mangrove trees (hmm…), massive mushroom trees, different variants of blocks, new crops like barley and rye, new biomes and even new enemies like the skeleton vanguard. There are desert tombs and temples, along with other adventure-oriented additions.

The list is basically endless for the new stuff that can be added with this update.
How it Works:

  • It adds countless new stuff to basically capitalize on the game’s already set mechanics and make them more varied.
  • It is separated into different updates and the updates are canonical with each other in the page that explains for this update works. It’s pretty crazy.

13. The Arsenal Update

Arsenal update focuses on adding a few new tools in the game that can help with various different things.

There is now scythes in the game, which can be used both as a weapon and a hoe-alternative. There are staffs for combat, shuriken, and spears.

While the new tools are cool, it’s not over with only that. There are also three new mobs added to the game with this imagined update. These are crawling zombies, evil gnomes, and corrupt knights.
How it Works:

  • It adds new tools like the scythe, shuriken, and so on.
  • It adds cool new mobs to the game to use the tools on.

12. Combat, Enchanting, Adventure!

This is another update that is canonically connected with the A New World update, which you can read a few headings above.

This update also adds bronze to the game, which you can use to make tools, armor, and so on. It also adds tin, new potions, and also gives several changes to the stuff already in the game. There is also the new mob Whiptail which you can tame and use to your benefit.

Overall, there are very cool ideas about new stuff that can be added to Minecraft. So, good job indeed.
How it Works:

  • It adds new stuff to every frontier of the game, without having a very concise theme.
  • The canon and lore with different updates are pretty cool.

11. The History Update

How about changing the game completely? Well, this update definitely adds some stuff which can be considered to be really impactful to the game’s overall style, but that’s just me.

The update adds nukes, yeah. There are different nuclear weapons, some names taken straight from real world, and it also adds flashlights. Yeah, and don’t forget about the new mobs like variants of Dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops, Velociraptor, Pterodactyl, Brachiosaurus.

There are also the dodo bird and mammoths. They even created an imaginary mob vote between Rhinorex, Mosasaurus, and Megalodon. Pretty out there stuff overall.
How it Works:

  • It works by not having a theme or even any sense to the Minecraft’s premise, like, any premise or even anything remotely close to that.
  • But yeah, dinosaurs are cool. Dinosaurs are really cool.

10. Secrets Update

This imagined update is also called the Loot Update, and it adds a lot of new stuff to be found all around the game world.

Honestly, it’s a really cool idea to have even more secret stuff around the world with different buildings, ruins, dungeon like structure, both above and below ground. We also know that people enjoy these types of things since there are a lot of mods that do the same thing this update is doing. So, why not?
How it Works:

  • It adds things like the “loot hole” to the game world to create more loot, secrets, and adventure to the game.
  • There are a lot of cool ideas for new things like the desert or jungle temples that are in the game.

9. Handy Items Update

This update is almost entirely focused on new tools but that doesn’t stop it from adding a new mob and some other stuff here and there; so, read more to figure out what kind of cool stuff this update adds to the game.

It adds items like saddle with chest, knife, cut variants of food, different compasses that point to different things like the Kopenhamn Compass pointing to the nearest village.
How it Works:

  • It adds a lot of new tools to the game that can be useful overall.
  • There are new things like celerity which is used to make things that are much faster, like celerity arrow that is 5 times faster than a normal arrow.

8. Horizons Update

There are amazingly cool ideas that is proposed with this imagined update, and some of them can definitely be added to the game for real. Read more to find out these ideas.

So, first of all, there are now frozen clouds, which can randomly spawn in the air. There is the daylight variant sensor that senses the different variants of the Sun and Moon.

Different variants of the sun and moon, you say? There are also mechanics like a lunar eclipse and solar eclipse that give different effects to the game world. Pretty cool, huh?
How it Works:

  • It adds new meteorological events to the game, making it more fun and realistic as it does so.
  • It adds other cool things like frozen clouds, daylight variant sensor, horizon magma blocks, craters, and so on.

7. The Ocean Mobs Update

This update has been proposed to be an extension of the aquatic update some time past. This update aims to add new mobs to the ocean to make it more interesting, and deadly.

There are ideas for this update for mods like the jellyfish, sharks, orcas, and so on. The mobs even interact with each other. For example, orcas will attack sharks if they them. The jellyfish will not directly attack the player, but they will poison the player it they come too close.
How it Works:

  • It works by adding new mobs to the ocean to make it feel more realistic and alive.
  • It adds dangerous mobs to the ocean to make travelling the oceans just a little bit more terrifying.

6. The Genesis Update

This update is simple but powerful. It proposes a new ore that is one step better than netherite. While it is difficult to see if Mojang will ever add another material that will be even stronger to make tools with, we will just have to wait and see.

This new material, genesis ore, will only spawn on layer 4 or below, and will be very difficult to find.

While it is not specified how strong it would be compared to netherite tools, because you have to combine a genesis jewel that comes out of genesis ore with a netherite tool to make the new tool, it’s fair to assume that it will be really strong compared to other tool types.
How it Works:

  • It adds a new ore to the game, strongest one yet.
  • This ore spawns deep down in the overworld, making lava and other stuff a difficulty (should probably be edited to fit the new caves in Minecraft)

5. The Endgame Update

This update adds new cool stuff that brings some new mechanics to the game and might make it even more in depth than it already is.

What does the update add? It adds thing like chargestone which is the strong material to make tools and armor with and for example, a chargestone axe will have 4500 durability.

With other things like a FLINTLOCK PISTOL that is so casually added with an imagined snapshot for this update, it is fair to say that while it is called the “the endgame update”, it’s all over the place.
How it Works:

  • It adds every cool stuff the developer can think of, or take from other update ideas, and mashes them together to make a very involved and cluttered update proposal that some people might enjoy.

4. Nine Ice Update

This update is simple, to the point. It adds things related to ice. Yeah, that’s it. It doesn’t add ten block tall mobs or new dimensions, but only adds new variants of ice and other item associated with ice. Let’s go and see what they are.

There are new ice blocks like slippery ice, icy glass, melted ice, cracked ice, and even ice ores which give you ice shards. You can even make an ice sword which does a fair bit of damage but only has 32 durability.

There is a new biome as well called the fields, the ice fields, of course. There are even ice villages in this biome and there are even some changes to the ice blocks already in the game. At this point, the word “ice” doesn’t have any meaning left anymore.
How it Works:

  • It adds ice, lots of it.
  • It even changes some ice-related things in the game while adding things like new blocks and a biome associated with, you guessed it, ice.

3. Modern Day Update

This update aims to add things to Minecraft that make it more “real world” by adding things like new blocks, furniture, new items, tools, and even mobs.

There are pigeons and geese now, which is pretty cool since I always thought Minecraft could do with some birds. The game seems to lack birds. There are also bicycles, carriages, trains, large minecarts, and even ships for transportation now.

There are also guns, stakes, pitchforks, and so on. And with new, more modern-like furniture, piano, lamp, clock, chair, table, and so on for example, you can build and live in Minecraft that resembles more of our daily lives.
How it Works:

  • It adds new things to make Minecraft feel more real and close to our daily lives.
  • With new mobs and transportation systems, Minecraft never felt more realistic!

2. Circuitry Update

The circuitry update is a proposed update for the game that aims to make redstone more involved and “better”. We will see about that.

Rather than working in a very linear fashion, now redstone has Watts to work with. There are new items like industrial capacitors and bystals that help you work around different problems and opportunities that come with using Watts as a system.

Copper can also be used in your circuits to create better flow of electricity. If you are trying to get your bachelor’s in engineering, this might seem like a really cool idea.
How it Works:

  • It lets go of the intuitive and masterfully crafted redstone system with a more realistic electricity, and gate ideas that could fulfill your fantasy of being an engineering at last.
  • Yeah, this is a great idea for an update, for sure. Definitely.

1. The Lights, Camera, Action! Update

This update does not only add new stuff, but it also proposes a new way to add stuff into the game, that being adding them one by one until the developers were satisfied with the results. Intriguing. And this type of updates were somewhat done by the developers with the snapshots, and by adding and removing stuff according to the fans’ reactions.

The update adds things like dynamites, bears, cooker chests, robots, skateboards, meteors, lamps, vehicles, and so on. There is a whole way that the updates also add, fix, and even remove some stuff as things go on since the update is written like a short narrative or a story, pretty cool to read.
How it Works:

  • It adds new things and proposes a way for updating the game in small successions.
  • With new stuff like bikes and other vehicles, transportation could be saw if Minecraft ever wanted to go towards this weird direction for some unknown and incomprehensible reason. Pretty cool overall.
