Games Like Return of the Obra Dinn
Ayeeee....let's bring it back to the old school art here in the game of Return of the Obra Dinn!

Are you in search for some thriller, detective games that are like “Return of the Obra Dinn”, but better?

Well, you are in luck. Below contains a list of the top 10 games that are like it, and greater in their own unique way.

Check it out!

10) Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments

Sherlock Holmes Crimes and Punishments Gameplay

In the year of 1894 and 1895, setting at London, United Kingdom, you are Sherlock Holmes.

Your task is to solve 6 thrilling cases that would lead you to find a group of terrorists called Merry Men, who scheme to overthrow the government.

You will be able to discover clues as you move through the crime scenes.  How you interpret the clues will alter the conclusions of the game. You can either let the group follow through with their plan or stop them.

Think twice before you act. The choice is yours. Choose wisely.

Sherlock Holmes witnessing a dead man in a spa place (based on the men with the towels around their waists). Can it be the dude on the right (the blood on the towel looks kind of sketch don’t ya think?) I guess you have to find out.

This pic gives a freaky vibe. A statue of what could be part of a cult that whoever is the owner of the home may be a part of. Looks like he is willing to fight Mr. Sherlock Holmes (unless it’s him in a disguise).

9) Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened - Remastered

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened ~ Remastered Gameplay

Once again, you are Sherlock Holmes, searching for Lord Rochester, who has committed a series of kidnappings of foreigners.

Why you ask? Is it for mere pleasure? Or even worse, is it a cultist act?

You will find out as you discover clues that will lead you to the culprit. However, the real question is. Will it be YOU, who will stop him? Well, better find out.

Based off this picture, the location looks haunted and some bad shit (excuse my language) went down. Definitely can see the dried blood everywhere. Makes you think what could have happened here.

Yeah, no kidding. This is freaky. A man that seems to be sacrificed to a demigod or the devil. If I was Sherlock Holmes witnessing this, I’d run.

8) What Remains of Edith Finch

What Remains of Edith Finch Gameplay

You are a player-character who “portrays” as Edith Finch, the girl who is the last of her family to be alive.

As you go through her journal and find out more on her family history to find the reason why she is alive, there is a TWIST. Is Edith truly the sole survivor?

You will discover the truth as you play towards the end, and who you thought you may be, may not be who you think. Interesting right?

This picture shows a chair not upright, a bottle tumbled over, and utensils everywhere on the table. What could of happen here?

For some reason, this picture does not match with the bright setting as the previous one. The environment here gives me the chills with its dark undertone (not to mention, the puddle of blood…. eek!)

7) What Never Was

What Never Was Gameplay

This may not be a game like Sherlock Holmes, but more of a game that would hit you in the feels. You are Sarah, the granddaughter of Howard James Wright, who passes away in the late 2000s.

As you are tasked to organize and clear the things in your grandfather’s attic, you start to learn more about him.

In the process, you will come across journals and other valuables that perhaps are supposed to be “what never was” as you go through the journey of solving puzzles.

Try it out and you will feel the warmth and joy this game brings.

A snippet of this game already gives this warm vibe. Maybe it’s the way it’s written. Maybe it’s just the game.

Notice the pig inside the box. It’s in perfect condition. Additionally, observe how the books are stacked quite evenly. The attic gives off an aura which enables any individual to rekindle happy and joyful memories.

6) Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You

Orwell: Keeping an Eye On You Gameplay

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the title was Drake’s “Hold On” song with the lyrics “I got my eyes on you, you’re everything I see…” Definitely out of topic, and if you don’t know Drake, it’s okay because he has no relevance, whatsoever, to this game.

Back to all seriousness.

A bomb explodes in the city of Bonton. Here, several people died. You are a brand new researcher, who was assigned a task to find out more about this Cassandra Watergate, an artist who tried to assault a police officer weeks before the explosion happened.

You will be digging through her profile as you breach her and others’ privacy (having access to people’s online communication and media).

With this morally challenging game, will you be able to find out who is truly behind this terror attack?

Just cannot help it but see how this animated version of a Facebook turned out wonderfully. This is pretty interesting.

Okay so after this picture, it’s inevitable that part of the task is to look at people’s profiles. Makes you think what you should or should not put on your own social media, don’t ya think?

5) Unheard

Unheard Gameplay

What if the only way way to solve a crime is through listening in to conversations? You are a detective who has to find culprits based on…. you guessed it, listening to people’s conversations.

Go figure. You are to investigate conversations using a device called the Audio Detective System, and this is when your sleuthing commences.

What is provided is a floor plan. So clean out your ears and get some awesome headphones in this audio-acoustic, crime-thriller game.

The floor plan looks super high tech. A recording is shown in the bottom, however what is heard cannot be seen (go figure LOL).

I notice that there is an icon with a circle that consists of rays like sunshine. The icon could possibly portray that a character is talking since this is an audio-heavy game.

4) Aviary Attorney

Aviary Attorney Gameplay

Although humans are technically animals, in this game, you are a French bird, taking the role of a defense lawyer.

You are to explore the city of Paris and with the clues you discover along the way, your aim is to prove the verdict not guilty. As you go through the motions (and a load of bird puns, you will realize you solely cannot rely on faith.

It will come to that point where you put your own trust and logic on the line. Can you morally prove yourself to be a good lawyer as you complete your objective?

The characters are amusing enough just portraying people as a variety of animals. The old school classical cartoon gives the game some elegance.

LOL. “I make more money in ten minutes than you make in a week”. The savagery. You know a game is going to be good when it got some sass to it.

3) The Council

The Council Gameplay

A mystery narrative adventure genre where you are able to choose a class from the 3 options provided: Diplomat, Occultist, and Detective.

With these 3 options come with 3 abilities, each being unique and distinct from each other. It is the year of 1793, and you are a secret society member named Louis de Richet.

Your mother’s disappearance is a mystery and it is up to you on how you can find the reason why.

Very twisted. A door that is normal but the walls consist of furniture that should not be there. My body is getting goosebumps looking at this.

Okayyy…. Tell me why the man in the middle wearing red scares me. Is that a coffin??? Please don’t tell me that it’s the mother of the protagonist that is in there.

2) The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Gameplay

A game filled with a little bit of horror, a hint of mystery, and a spice of drama. You are a psychic detective named Paul Prospero, who is assigned to find a missing boy named Ethan Carter.

As a psychic detective, you have the power to relive high-emotion events. The ability to find this boy is placed onto a test where you are on your own and clues are not so obvious.

Will you be able to manage to do so?

Although the building looks run down, I am not going to lie, the graphics are beautiful here.

Hmmm… all these “railcar?” have me questioning what could have happened here for a railcar to be needed. Does this player need to transport somewhere or is it an automotive that could have been part of a crime?

1) The Painscreek Killings

The Painscreek Killings Gameplay

A first-person mystery game that is set in a semi-open world. You are Janet, a female journalist, who is sent to Painscreek to solve an unsolved murder. With the goal of getting a good scoop, will you be able to find a lead to the culprit?

Just by this picture, the realism of the environment is gorgeous. The brick walls, the trees, the gate, and the fences, are graphically well done.

This honestly looks like something that could be taken from an HD camera. However, can this elegance and beauty of a home be the murderer’s?

Now that you are provided with the top 10 games that are like the “Return of the Obra Dinn” time to put on your detective caps on and try these games out. Let us know what you think!
